I know both the states and Japan, so I have to go with who manages to get each country's vibe correctly.

United States : George Lucas. He hit a homerun with American graffiti. Everything in that movie is pure Americana. Hell, if you haven't hung out in front of a store looking for somebody to buy you some booze because you aren't old enough to buy booze, then I don't know you!

Japan : Ozu Yasujiro. His films have an authenticity to Japan that nobody else manages to convey. If you want to know what it was like back in the day in Japan, he's way out in front of everybody else when it comes to capturing the mood.

Well, thank you ;)
Jim Jarmusch remains definitely one of my favorite directors, I've seen all his movies, the only movie he made and I disagree with was The Dead Don't Die (2019) which was fun, but not really on his "standards".... otherwise he's a genius !
