The masterpiece that is Body Heat

As a big fan of noir, it really doesn't get much better than Body Heat. I've longed believed that's one of the best noirs ever, and one of the best overall movies of the 80s.

The storyline, the ATMOSPHERE (the heat became almost a character itself), the acting, the direction, the twist, the ending, everything flawless.

William Hurt at his best.

10/10 film.

Anyone else love it?

Great dialogue too, I'm a fan.

Indeed. Terrific dialogue.

I remember it emblazoned into my psyche, as I saw it as a child and vividly remember the sex scenes.

Apparently there's a storyline to it and people acting and all that, but I cannot for the life of me remember.

The first time I saw it, I thought it would be just a sex movie with a weak storyline... I was wrong.

It's classic mystery, noir thriller with terrific acting across the board.

Let me know what you think once you watch it. I highly doubt you'll be disappointed.

love this film, the dialog, the atmospheric cinematography, it is probably the best erotic noir of the 80s, on the other hand, i was gonna make a thread about this vs China moon
A lot of similarities:
A cop meets a femme fatale, she wants to murder her husband, things go wrong, and someone dies in the end femme fatale lives.
Although here a lawyer meets femme fatale,

It's a really good movie, but does it count as erotic though? I mean there hardly any sex scenes, and the ones that there are, are very brief.

It’s more than we can get now for sure. I haven’t seen a decent erotic thriller in years. There’s The Handmaiden, but other than that...

This might be a bit off topic, but do you never notice how the more erotic thriller, the more the plot isn't that good? Basic Instinct and Body of Evidence, for example, were really big on showing the sex and erotica, but the plots were pretty lackluster overall. Where as movies like Body Heat, or Wild Things, or Sea of Love, have really good plots, but not as much erotica in comparison. I guess they just care a lot about story, more than the erotica?

AgrippinaX 06-11-20 06:32 AM

The plot quality does suffer, hence why I don’t like the genre for the most part. It’s about priorities; a director either wants to make an explicit film or have a sound narrative. Calígula is the best example; even with a huge budget and Malcolm McDowell’s commitment, Tinto Brass sets out to make porn and that’s what he achieves. He can’t seem to focus on other things. There are a few plotless or artsy erotic films that are not bad, Y Tu Mama También and Lust, Caution. But the only good erotic thriller I can think of is The Handmaiden, it remains entertaining throughout and it’s fairly explicit. But it’s a fine balance and hard to achieve. Wild Things was a guilty pleasure once, though...

I thought about watching The Handmaiden but every Korean movie I've seen with sex scenes, they try to be too... I guess you could say avant guarde or too weird about it, but I will check it out.

You have a plus one for that my friend however i don t agree about basic instinct, to me the plotting is spot on and the whodunit effect remains until the closing scene

There s a lot of erotic thrillers out there which are worth it
Fatal attraction
Shattered
Black widow
Last seduction
These are just a few examples

AgrippinaX 06-11-20 03:02 PM

It’s a question of taste, I’ve seen everything you mentioned and many more. They tend to leave me unimpressed. But that’s not to say they’re bad, I just very rarely enjoy them.

Oh okay, well it's just whenever I watch Korean movies have sex scenes in they always act like they are virgins having sex for the first time, and it comes off as awkward or weird, that's all. So I don't know if I would like the erotica in The Handmaiden, but I should check it out.

I dont understand how anyone can find catherine turner attractive...her nose alone is a put off for me.

Re: The masterpiece that is Body Heat

Do you mean Kathleen Turner? She was much better looking in Body Heat, than movies she was in after, I haven noticed.
