Cricket's top 100 horror movies

With my wife hogging the TV all morning, I figured I'd also get into the spirit and put my favorite horror list together. Like everyone else(except Mark), there's still plenty that I need to see, and want to see.

There's a bunch of movies that I could've included, but I consider them to be less horror, than something else. These movies include Aliens, Jaws, The Sixth Sense, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, The Silence of the Lambs, Zombieland, They Live, The Hidden, Species, Duel, Videodrome, The Girl Next Door, Shawn of the Dead, Ebola Syndrome, Altered States, The Devils, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, I Saw the Devil, Kill List, and more. Whether or not some of these movies belong on a horror list is debatable, and whether or not some of my choices belong on a horror list is probably debatable too. It's just a matter of perspective.

I'm just touching up the order, then I figure I'll bang out 4 sets of 5 for 5 days. If anybody finds something new to watch, and they enjoy it, it's all worth it.

I'm + repping that post just for all the 'horror' you've, quite rightly, left off your list.

Go to it, my good man! :)

I know. I have mostly avoided the horror lists but if cricket is making a list I will pay attention.

It's Alive (1974)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...liveposter.jpg

It's Alive isn't great, but it's creepy and it's one of the first movies I can remember going to see.

99. Donkey Punch (2008)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...nch_poster.jpg

Teens on vacation and partying, then trouble starts. That usually works for me.

98. Pumpkinhead (1988)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...umpkinhead.jpg

If Lance Henriksen is in it, I usually like it.

97. Vamp (1986)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...86_film%29.jpg

Grace Jones as a vampire is pretty cool.

96. Motel Hell (1980)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...MOTEL_HELL.jpg

Horror with a mix of dark comedy.

I think I've seen Pumpkinhead, is there lots of gore in it?

Not too much but it depends what you're used to.

+ rep for It's Alive (though I prefer the sequel) and Pumpkinhead. I can't remember if I've seen Motel Hell or not, but I think I have it somewhere.

cricket 10-27-14 03:18 PM

I'm sure I've seen the sequel but it's been so long I don't remember it.

cricket 10-27-14 03:37 PM

95. Rest Stop (2006)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Stop_cover.jpg

Direct to video movie is violent and well done.

94. Frozen (2010)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...zen_Poster.jpg

Original idea executed well.

93. Turistas (2006)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...4/Turistas.jpg

More young people in trouble while on vacation.

92. Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...eadlynight.jpg

Very controversial when it was released.

91. Humanoids From the Deep (1980)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...m_the_deep.jpg

This one is pretty crazy, and very good.

That's such a great picture

If I saw it, it would've been back in the 80's. I don't remember that, though, and I'd like to think that I would. :D

Camo 10-27-14 04:35 PM

+1 for starting the thread, but i haven't seen any of your first 10 picks.

Re: Cricket's top 100 horror movies

Frozen reminded a lot of The Grey, though lesser in quality.

cricket 10-27-14 07:29 PM

Yea The Grey was more of a major release for sure. Frozen is good for an out of nowhere, different horror movie.

cricket 10-27-14 07:49 PM

90. Spellbinder (1988)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...nderposter.jpg

This hasn't aged well, but Kelly Preston is hot and it has a wtf ending.

89. Bloodsucking Freaks (1976)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...vie_Poster.jpg

Classic exploitation movie.

88. Monkey Shines (1988)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...key_shines.jpg

Forgotten movie from horror master George A. Romero.

87. The Midnight Meat Train (2008)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...train_ver2.jpg

Gorefest starring a pre-stardom Bradley Cooper, Vinnie Jones, and Brooke Shields.

86. Victim (2010)

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wOGhd8Uwjp...010-Poster.jpg

Hidden gem about a guy who gets abducted by someone who's going to do bad things to him, but there's a twist.

Nostromo87 10-27-14 08:35 PM

+REP for including Silent Night, Deadly Night, for being cricket, & for excluding good movies that i don't like looking at on horror lists either

Re: Cricket's top 100 horror movies

Very surprising list so far. A lot of weird choices, or maybe not weird but defiantly different from your average picks. Good thing though, it makes this exciting and refreshing to follow! :D

But I wish you would leave a bit more text with the movies, cause since so many of them are either unknown or less known, it would be nice to hear why you liked them and why perhaps we should see them. ;)
