When I was a kid, there was this erie mystery movie in which this crazy girl that kept reciting this sing-song poem that's like mares eat oats; if someone says it slowly and separates the words, you understand it's not nonsense. Anyway. The poem was 'on horse flies is, in combs bees is, on trunks knobs is, in knob keys is'. They went to the trunk, discovered the knob, found the key and retrieved the treasure. I've been looking for it since before TV went color.

Does anyone know the name of this movie?

That is Murder He Says starring Fred MacMurray, Marjorie Main, and Helen Walker, 1945.

They keep deleting clips from that movie on youtube. The only clip there now doesn't have the girl singing the song , but MacMurray sings a bit of it. The wikipedia summary doesn't mention the girl, but she is definitely in the movie. I have seen that flick plenty of times.

While it is kind of eerie, particularly with the radiocative dog and stuff, it is also a black comedy

I watched the clip until the end and at that point the girl can be heard singing part of it off camera.

It is a well known movie and it is available, but some of the DVDs (some have it on a double bill) can be a little pricey. Maybe you can rent it. I saw it for sale as low as ten dollars, but I am not familiar with the seller.
