No this isn't what you think it is. I only created this thread to see how many of you can remember the first movie you saw in a theater.

My first movie I saw in a theater was, I think, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. :) Now lets see how well you all do. :D

I'm way too young to remember...but I'll bet it was a Disney movie, with my grandma. She took me to lots of movies when I was younger...I believe among them are "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin." I can't remember any earlier than that, I don't think. I think I saw "The Little Mermaid," in theatres, too, and I'm pretty sure that the first "grown-up" movie I ever saw was "Jurassic Park." I had to look away when the one guy got eaten, though...I was pretty young at the time. What a cool movie. When it came out, a bunch of us went...and we almost NEVER went to the movies then. It was just too big, though.

Sort of like JP3...we took the entire family to that one. 9 people...but Baby Jack got in free. :) I think we're going to take all 9 to the Lord of the Rings opening, too.

All 9, that's not like everyone living in the house is it??? That's gotta be very expensive for 9 people to go to the movies.

Yeah, that's everyone. It was pretty expensive, but a lot of them are kids. Behold:

As you can see, something like half of us get a discount...only four of us pay adult prices...and we don't have to pay jack for Jack. :)

LOL...well I guess it's all in the family. That's quite a large gathering you have there. The only time I can think that families will have so many members was back in the 50's and before that when big families were the thing. Nowadays, 2 or 3 will suffice.

Yeah, that's the standard nowadays...we're kind of an oddity in that respect. Some people look down on it, it seems (people stare a little bit if we're all out together in public)...although personally I love the idea of a big family. Personally, though, as the result of growing up with so many kids around me, I doubt I'll have quite so many myself. Definitely want a few, though. :)

For me it was probably one of the Disney reissues of a classic cartoon, but I don't know for sure.

The first one I remember seeing was at a Drive-In: Herbie Rides Again on a double-bill with The World's Greatest Athlete, when I was five. Anybody here ever even been to a Drive-In? There are actually still two operating in the Baltimore area where I live. Good times.

The first one I have a conscious memory of seeing in a regular hard-top theater is Star Wars, when I was seven. I would eventually see that movie over thirty times during it's theatrical runs between '77 and '79.

You younger folks won't remember a time before home video, but hit movies used to get return engagements, sometimes even years later (as with Star Wars). These days a movie is available on video four to eight months after premiering theatrically.

I saw Star Wars on the big screen when they released the special edition. There used to be a drive-in about 20 minutes away from me, but they tore it down. Never got to see a movie there. :(

I have no clue, but recently I've been keeping all my ticket stubs and the earliest one I have is from In and Out in like 1985.

You mean 1995? That's the Kevin Kline movie, right? That was pretty funny. Anyway, I was saving my stubbs before, but I've gotten tired of it. I am tempted to save them and just throw them into a shoebox I get them. I wonder how quickly it would fill up...would make an interesting conversation piece, at least.

I think the first movie I ever saw in the theater was probably The Little Mermaid. That's the first movie I saw that I know of, anyway. I was only 5 at the time, so I don't actually remember watching it, but I know from deduction that I saw it in the theater. The first movie I actually remember seeing in the theater was Beauty and the Beast. Remember the shot at the beginning where they show the castle on the cliff in the background and the waterfall in the foreground? I remember I was completely awed by the beauty of that scene. Isn't it amazing how spectacular some ordinary things can seem to children? :)

I think I have every ticket stub for movies I've gone to since late 1997 (when I moved to Arlington and started going to movies more often).

i started doing it during high school, i think, but living overseas i didn't get to see movies too often so I really began hardcore in 1997 - first year of college. I've kept about everyone since, and they can still be found lurking (if i forgot to put them in some collective place, like a shoebox).

I am also a Little Mermaid Inductee. i think there may have been others but they were chinese chop chop movies and it's all a blur but i distinctly remember that the first english speaking movie from America that i ever saw was that, and I was so in love it wasn't funny. kids, i learned every song by heart. i watched the video over and over (pirated and smuggled over the Malaysian border) and to this day i know the words! that movie was heaven. that's prolly when i fell in love with movies, too. love, romance, pretty mergirls, all that.
