Great movies you might never watch.

I'm fine with lgbt movies. I've seen a couple. I'm not fine with erotica bordering on porn, so I may never watch The Handmaiden, despite my love of the same director's movie Oldboy.

Full Metal Jacket; I am just not into Vietnam Era War films.

Birth of a Nation (1915) apparently is a classic and for the time an extraordinary piece of film making, which the Library of Congress classify as being culturally, historically and aesthetically significant.

However, I have zero interest in watching a 3+ hr movie of that endorses racism and glorifyies the KKK.

Salo.

Just... no thanks.

I just can't bring myself to watch any of those grimdark-realistic communist movies like The Cranes are Flying.

Triumph of the Will would be the obvious answer.

As for a (slightly) less ideologically-based answer, I guess there's a bunch of Woody Allen movies I probably won't get around to.

Irreversible, mostly because rape is just an appalling thing.

I watched it and it does endorse racism and glorifyies the KKK...and...was real boring too.

Is this referring to movies I personally think or expect to be great? If so, I try to watch every single one.

I love the first half (boot camp).
It's almost like two complete movies in one.
The second half takes place in Viet Nam.

It’s movies considered historically/culturally/technically great, or maybe just flat out well liked movies.
Birth of a Nation and Triumph of the Will for instance, and I mentioned Salo, or 120 Days of Sodom. I have zero interest in watching two hours of child torture, no matter how “great” it might be.

I agree. The first half was good, and then it just died right there.

It died with R. Lee Ermey and Vincent D'onofrio! ;)

Not a great movie.

I mean, that's not erotica though? I find this reasoning a bit weird. Movies with a lot of sex in them and erotica are not the same thing.

I'm hardpressed to say never, since if a movie looks good to me there's always the slimmest chance I'll watch it some day. That being said, movies like Martyrs, Antichrist, Precious, Blue Valentine, Irréversible and Away From Her are lower on my priority list since they look particularly hard to watch either from a visual standpoint, psychological one or both.

Every site I visit describes it as either an erotic thriller or a porn movie. Some reviews even say "it makes pornography an art."

How the heck did Away from Her & Blue Valentine get on a list that includes Irrèversible?

Are we talking about the same movies? They’re both really good & very entertaining. Seen both more than once.

mattiasflgrtll6 01-20-20 03:45 PM

Listen to what my post said. From a visual OR psychological standpoint. Obviously a 20 minute rape scene isn't gonna be a walk in the park to watch, but Blue Valentine and Away From Her look difficult to watch from an emotional standpoint. Your husband getting checked in for Alzheimers and then falling in love with someone else, that sounds like one of the sh'ittiest things someone could ever go through. I'm also not alone in my accessment on Blue Valentine, those who have seen it have said it's not an easy movie to watch, due to its highly depressing depiction of a relationship gone bad.
I also said I think all of these movies look good, but for one reason or another I won't get to right away.

Schindler's List is considered one of the greatest films of the 1990'a and won Steven Spielberg his first Best Director Oscar but I really don't see myself watching it anytime soon.

It is a difficult watch, especially if you know some older Jews. I was raised around a lot of Christians and Jews and it was one of the few movies that made me almost cry.
