They played an actual baseball game this morning! It's starting! Well, sort of. They play another today and then take like a week off, but still!

Game started 5:30AM EST though :( Even the west coast fans hadda been miffed. Tokyo-Smokyo!

And OY!, Tim snagged the closer for the Mariners off the waiver wire. I'm slipping.

Found myself about to make a trade offer for a SS in case my Willy Adames prediction's unfruitful. I need to be more confident in my homer wisdom, yet I'm smart enough to know that statements contrary. The struggle begins...

Yeah, I saw that Strickland got the save in game 1—and thought it was unlikely that he was available, but checked anyway—and was happy to snag him. Coming out of the draft, my bullpen was a bit thin and historically Hunter Strickland has burned me, but he's got the job, so he's worth the spot!

If you're talking about the green check mark, they routinely don't have those up to date, or managers don't necessarily announce things at the start of the season that far in advance. Don't go just by that.

Even if he wasn't, absent a specific announcement he was going to the bullpen, he'd obviously start at some point.

I read somewhere that Paul Goldschmidt only has 112 more games against the Brewers then he can get the hell outta St.Louis. Thank god!

The Ray's are atop the AL East and my Moneyballers 1st place in the Fantasy Baseball league. If it was September right now I'd be lovin' life ;)

In all seriousness the only thing this shows is I had a better draft than most. Were not even at the 10% mark for the season. Injuries, slumps, streaks, studying film tape, and results still to come.

Speaking of lame injury news, the news out of the Severino camp only gets more dire as time goes on. They've added a second injury to the list, and shut him down until at least the Allstar Break. Looking like a big goose egg from my third rounder this season...booooooo.

I haven't been paying close enough attention to everyone else's team, but as far as mine is concerned, if Swanson pans out, I would have to mention him...

Probably too soon to really know or maybe the FA in question hasn't been picked up yet. I'm optimistic about some players that I've gotten so far (Stroman, Pineda, Yandy Diaz), but nothing like Aaron Judge.

I kept checking in on that game and couldn't believe how long the first inning lasted. That's tough. On the other side of things, I accidentally benched James Paxton in my other league yesterday and lost what would've been my best start of the year.

I remember when Tim was selling the concept of changing the Wins category to Quality Starts, and I was all for it. Wins always seemed to be elusive. Well guess what I hate now? Seeing 5.2 IP Augh! Quality starts are like the Gingerbread Man, cant catch them :( I was going to go into overkill mode and have 9 starting pitchers, but then my Runs, HRs, and RBIs suffered. Think I've found a good balance with 7 starters, 2 set up guys, and 2 closers. Now have 2 bench spots for my offense cause theres always/mostly 2 guys on offense with cold bats at any given time. Seasons only 10% complete, by no means am I bragging, but it feels good not being second to last like I'd been the past 2 seasons.

Finally beginning to lower that team ERA. 7.15 yesterday actually lowered it. Baby steps. It's like my hitters are facing my pitchers everyday.

Hehe. Yeah, you get some absolutely comical ERA numbers in the first few weeks sometimes. Doesn't take much.

Yeah, it's lame, but at least you're waiting for the pitcher to do it. With wins you'll be staring at the same stuff but it's the bullpen blowing the game AFTER the pitcher leaves, or the hitters not hitting...always gonna be something, though. ;)

Overall, I am pretty happy with my team so far, even if my starting pitching is kind of getting killed. But, isn't everyone's pitching getting killed?

Yeah, your team looks fine to me. The Severino injury is tough but there's plenty of time there, and if he were pitching and doing his thing I think you'd be looking fine. You're in the middle of the pack and it's super early. I don't see any cause for alarm.

Here's a weird thing: I went to set my lineup for tomorrow and three of my players are locked and I can't rotate them in or out. They're all playing in doubleheaders. I've never seen this before.

I'm wondering if one of the double header games is a make up from earlier and it's putting the player in/out based on what I had that day, but I don't know.

Ooh, Torres hits a three-run homer and it gets called back on fan interference.

Aaron Judge probably just pulled some oblique muscles, and was hoping for a windfall of Homer's to come from him going forward. Enter.......Clint Frazier! argle frickin bargle.....

Benintendi just got a Grand Slam off Charlie Morton because some dumb Ray's fan reached over the fence and caught it! They reviewed it and it was upheld! Instant replay my balls! :mad: They didn't even kick the fan out of the stadium, that's not right.

So Aaron Judges left oblique strain is described by the manager as "somewhat significant". That's another way of saying "the kiss of death". :(

Due to injuries, slumps, and dumb drops I'm rostering Clint Frazier, Dwight Smith Jr, and Renato Nunez. NOW its looking like a TONGO team! :rolleyes:

Returning champion PW and his Gassed Juicers took 1st place yesterday, but I was able to barely squeak ahead by a smidge thanks to Josh Reddick *. Very nervous how Tanaka @ LAA & new hotshot Caleb Smith @ Philly fare tonight.





* Yes I know theres still 5 months left in the season and the standings change plenty but I'm savoring every single minute thank you very much! ;)

That is more of a follow-up story to the USA today piece I posted on FB, but it gets the idea across. Obviously, as a champion Circle Game player all the way back in '82 (back when I could throw the pigskin a quarter mile), I definitely think intent matters. Apparently, the Cubs don't, or they don't care.

Yikes. Already had Stanton out the whole first month, then Rendon and Tatis follow, then Rendon comes back...and then both Price and Glasnow hit the IL, and Kelley, and then Gordon and Torres are day-too-day when I don't have the roster flexibility to replace them for whatever time they miss. All in like two days!

Should be a fine looking team when it's on the field, but the Glasnow thing in particular is worrying, especially since he's looked like a Cy Young contender the first month.

EDIT: I forgot Posey. :laugh: There's just no way I can field anything close to a full team without dropping super valuable players. Eight starters out of commission, oof.

Damn Yankees. Past 30 days the only team to win more games than them is the Cubs. I could see it if they had their starting roster, but they're doing it with their farm system. The only reason why might be theyve no expectations thrust on them. So they play with no pressure, which is how the Ray's have maintained these years. They're stealing a page from our book!

That's just wrong.

Now please somebody hire him. Hey, he only cost me a waiver pick in Luke Weaver. With Treinan, Kimbrel, and my one-two punch of Alvarado & Castillo by seasons end I'd have solved my Save woes. There is a method to why I do what I do, but it's a random one.

It's not, don't worry about it. :laugh: As long as you don't mind us being amused by it, I don't mind you doing it. I kinda love it, actually.

It's crazy how often this is happening. Used to be unheard of, every player would eventually settle rather than miss a chunk of any season once it came to that. Now it's happening a few times a year. Wild. So hard to value those players, too.

Reminds me of the Kazuhiro Sasaki mystery injury... He never did change his story I don't think... Lol hopefully CC doesn't meet the same end.

When Montreal pitcher Dennis Martinez strained a muscle in his side trying to lift a suitcase in 1993, Richard Griffin, then the team's media relations director, referred to the malady as "Samsonitis."
Martinez was lucky enough to miss one start. Kazuhiro Sasaki, in contrast, missed 68 days after allegedly breaking two ribs carrying a suitcase up a flight of stairs in June 2003. Seattle was 42-19 when Sasaki went down, but the injury did a number on the bullpen, and the Mariners went 51-50 the rest of the way.
Sasaki, who had lost some zip off his fastball and was in danger of losing save opportunities to Eddie Guardado and Shigetoshi Hasegawa in Seattle, forfeited the $8.5 million left on his contract to return to Japan and pitch for the Yokohama BayStars in 2004.
In hindsight, nobody ever bought the suitcase story. Robert Whiting, a baseball author with strong ties to Japan, later said that sources told him Sasaki hurt himself while drinking and practicing pro-wrestling style maneuvers with some friends.

Well, Kimbrels going to the Cubs, and they're now saying Keuchel signed with the Braves (source is MLB.com). I hope this free agent strategy pays off, and hopefully they'll do even better since it's the National league.

A roster-slump and overall pitching regression put my team on its ear. The hitting a back to form, but pitchings not there yet. Hopefully Clevenger, Keuchel, Kimbrel, and maybe even Eovaldi will cure my era/whip/qs woes.

Yea, our offense has been picking up a bit, but we need to secure another good SP to right the pitching ship... Quite a few guys from our offense are up for trade...
