Melvin Van Peebles, the legendary filmmaker who pretty much started the era known as Blaxploitation with "Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song", has passed away at the age of 89.

As Uncle Junior might say, "They're droppin' like flies!"

The recently finished Criterion box set will make a lovely testament and tribute to the man.


I'm eager for the newly restored 5.1 stereo mix of Don't Play Us Cheap, where I can finally revel in an upgraded rendition of "You Cut Up the Clothes in the Closet of My Dreams".
