I’ve only been playing since May but I am thoroughly addicted. Practicing about 1-2 hours a week, and I wish I had more time to afford it.

Figured it’d be cool to have a place to chat guitars.

Peavey JF-1

But this Alvarez AD30 has the majority of my focus.

EDIT: And who knows? Maybe Santa will bring me an electric :D

So who else plays? Tag em. Let’s get some pictures up in here. Tips, tricks, generally badassarey.

This week I'm learning Sweet Euphoria, by Chris Cornell on an '81 Takamine F-375sw.

I’ve become fascinated by Billy Strings. Seeing somebody shred an acoustic is mesmerizing. I don’t even have to ask to know that Rick Rubin loves him.

Dust in a Baggie with the green shirt guy is a moment and Away from the Mire may be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard.

Just as usual, I pick my guitar from time to time to play some Black Metal tunes.

And I also improvise quite a bit and record myself playing & singing to send @Swan. He even mixed in some of this into his electronic music!

Here is a little chord practice: A, C, and D

I was testing my audio recorder last night to see how it sounds, and I think it sounds damn good.

It doesn't work!

Works for me!

Next up, Try working on switching smoothly between two of the chords, making sure all the notes ring out clearly etc.

Lastly, when are you cashing in your free video lesson with me? I would love to do it! Seriously!

Guess I will post a picture of my Guild in the um, Guild thread. ;)

1975 Guild F50 - Cracked and resealed multiple times. Sounds amazing.

And a couple of my electrics...

2001 Charvel A Plus Pro - Mahogany body, birdseye maple neck, ebony fret board. Sorry the case is so dirty. I transferred my Charvel into my old 1992 Jackson case after I traded the Jackson away. The case is old, but it has all my bumper stickers, backstage passes, & random stickers on it! ;)

2020 Charvel DK24 Dark Amber - Mahogany body, maple neck, maple fret board. Only pic I have on my phone; I am at work right now, so I can't snap a proper one until I get home later. Will post more pics of this gem soon!

Also have a 2003 Ibanez S470DXQMCN and a 2003 Ibanez SZ 520. No pics available of mine, so I will post some web pics until I can update.

Are you accessing it from a place of business? I can't access the link from my company's network because we have some security settings in place that doesn't allow for the link to redirect.

Yeah, I was just testing the recorder more than anything.

My teacher has given me an exercise to switch between three different chords, but it's getting kinda old so I may have him give me another one so I can spice up my practice. I also have a run exercise that I have been neglecting, so I need to work on that, too.

And soon! When is best for you? I will work my schedule to fit yours.

Either weekend day, during the day. Evenings are tough, as we are feeding/bathing Stella etc. Also, let me know which vid platform works best for you. We need one with fairly decent quality video.

I have a lesson on Saturday, so do you just wanna plan for Sunday?

And I am flexible on the platform. Skype, Facetime, whatever. Just no ****ing Zoom.

Best video quality is probably Jitsi or Discord.

Let's try for Skype on Sunday! My father is coming by for BBQ in the afternoon, but I will be free late morning or early afternoon.

@ynwtf wanted to hear me play. Here's the first part of the first song I linked.

https://voca.ro/eYx0t0oIGV1

Playing on time was always the hardest thing to me. Probably has to do with the fact I never practice with a metronome or a backing track and end up learning the song in 11/23 time signature.

Hi here's my Custom Gibson B.B. King Edition Serie Gold. Bought it 10 years ago 3500$ and keep it new until that time. White Stickers still on it. Took out of the case only 5 times, i use to play with my Ibanez insthead.

Sorry it was first saying Gibson Les Paul but it was just an automatic cell phone corrector... Of course it was easy to see it's not a les paul...

^^^^ Wins the thread.

I love to just pick up my guitar and play some improvised black metal stuff without thinking much. That's how I come up with some nice riffs. The third riff is really badass, just have to practice some more and play it tighter.

https://voca.ro/cHzGAl9bqMK

I really love this improvisational approach, so even when I'm composing an actual song, and only have two or three riffs in my head, I would play them for a while, and then go full improv to see where this takes me. Everything in the following recording is improvised safe for the first two riffs. The first two riffs reappear from time to time to kind of build the structure of the song. The stuff at 2:06 is improvised, and I really love some of these melodies I came up with on a spot!

https://voca.ro/gMbcyqanxBo

So that's my approach to guitar playing and making songs. I just have lots of fun and don't really care much about technical perfection.

Anyway, afterwards I got bored with kvlt and br00tal music like black metal, so decided to improvise some mild melodies. Kinda f*cked up towards the end, because the idea I had was apparently too hard for me to play out of the box, and I kept looking for the right notes and fingering, but it's a good idea that deserves to be saved.

alright alright alright.
No pics of my actual guitars, but here's a run down:

2004ish Gibson SG Special Faded
This was the first guitar I bought. I had an old black Yamaha R-something or another my dad got me in high school but it was falling apart by this time. This SG is still probably my goto, favorite feeling guitar. The neck is just perfect to me.

Late 90s semi-hollow DeArmond Starfire Special (red)
Great story on these DeArmonds and how they were discontinued. Be sure to google them if you're curious. I first learned of them around 2003 and have wanted one since. I was lucky to pick this up off eBay maybe around 2010 before the prices started getting silly.

2018 Fender Limited American Tele (Sherwood Green Metallic)

https://davesguitar.com/wp-content/u...B-768x1104.jpg

2018 Gretsch 135th Anniversary G5420t (Cherry/Casino Gold)
Funny enough, I found this used at Guitar Center and they didn't know it was the anniversary model. Because of that, they had it priced way low as a regular, used, G5420. This one still had the cardboard marketing spacers under the bridge, so I'm sure it had never been used. Win/win on this one. When I play this one, I just feel like I know what I'm doing. Even though I really don't.

2016 Epiphone EJ-200CE (Natural)

https://d1aeri3ty3izns.cloudfront.ne...00/preview.jpg

1981 Takamine F-375SW
Found this on Craigslist last month, of all places. Sounds great. Plays great. Looks great. I could never afford a real Martin, but this clone is a great imposter. I'd buy another if I could find it at the low price I did this one. Hell, I could probably get 4 for the cost of the one Martin it emulates. Those things are crazy =\ The "W" in the call-letters stands for wood. I didn't realize this at first, but after examining the guitar I noticed that all the fretboard dot inlays, bindings, string pegs, and strap peg are all natural wood rather than plastic or mother of pearl. That's kind of neat, I thought.

doubledenim 09-03-20 09:37 AM

Never afford a real Martin? What kind of Martin do you want? Mine is a bottom end and it was around $500 in the late 90s.

I’m sure this one isn’t cheap and ol’ Billie Strings is just driving up the price.
