Happy birthday to my favourite sci-fi/fantasy franchise, Star Wars.

Here's a few things I learned from SW:

1. There is sound in outer space (cue haunting tie-fighter sound)
2. A Jedi can move faster than a laser blast
3. A robot (droid) can have emotions
4. There's rust and dirt in the future
5. John Williams is an amazing composer (even as I type this, while thinking about SW, the SW theme is going through my head)
6. People in the future can still wear traditional clothes (eg. Jedi robes)
7. Mythology is alive and well (knights, wizards, princesses, magic, quests, big foot, etc.)
8. The movie credits can wait.
9. Something happening a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away can be exciting and engaging.
10. A movie can sell everything from breakfast cereal to frisbee.

I'm almost ashamed of how important the first movie is to me.

Don't be.

It's a fantastic work of BOTH cinematic and storytelling art.

My dad took me to see this when it came out in the theaters. It was my first theater experience and I absolutely loved it.

Lol, Star Wars is set in the past.

Happy birthday to my favorite childhood movie! As is, the original Star Wars trilogy is my #2 trilogy in the history of the ever-ever. I must have seen the three around a thousand times each.
