Has anyone seen the japanese horror flick The Grudge? I would love to see it. I saw a trailer of it and that alone sent chills down my spine all the way down to my.... NEXT! And has anyone seen another asian horror movie (chinese, I think) called The Eye? That one looks  too. I love Ring and I have also seen Audition, and even if I didn't like that as much as Ring, I still think it had a mood and a feel about it that I think is really scary. Are The Grudge and The Eye anything like Ring or Audition?

Striel 03-15-04 11:38 PM

1.) The Amityville Horror
2.) The Shining
3.) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

An American Werewolf In London

John Carpenter's The Thing

Frankenstein: The True Story

Yes, I saw The Eye and it was pretty creepy. It kind of lagged in spots, but it was pretty entertaining overall. There are a few scenes that will definitely make you jump.

Ok, sounds cool. Though what I really like with japanese horror is not how they make you jump but how they use suspense to an extreme to a point where it is almost unbearable to watch. Creepyness instead of shock.

I like creepy chillers over all out horror, so I like:

The Eye (Jian gui)
The Blair Witch Project
The Shining

There are lots of great Chinese and Japanese horror films - including Satan Returns (666 mo gui fu huo) - but what I particularly like about these is the sometimes unintentionally hilarious subtitles, that have the ability to break your concentration.

For gore fests you can't beat early Peter Jackson - especially Braindead. And then there's always the good old zombie films, recently reinvented by 28 Days Later. I'm looking forward to watching Dawn of the Dead through my fingers....

For all fans of the Exorcist, you really must check out http://www.angryalien.com/0204/exorcistbunnies.html where the whole film is retold in 30 seconds by bunnies...:D

The Mothman Prophecies
The Ring
Jaws I, II, III

But after the 2nd Jaws movie the sequels started getting ridiculous!!! I just have a fascination with Sharks :)

That pretty much defines The Eye. It isn't as good as Ringu, but it's twice as scary.

Nitzer 03-16-04 07:46 PM

1)Texas Chainsaw Massacre - 2003 (the old one was crap)
2)The Exorcist (I can't believe I spent my money to buy The Exorcist 3 DVD - it's as entartaining as a box of pig****; I haven't seen the second one so I'll assume it sucks)
3)Gothika - it had a few good scares
