I really liked Jurassic World and don't understand the negativity towards it.
And, of course, I love Gladiator. It was my favorite movie for a little while.

I love Jaws. It is an easy top 25 favorite movie. I also really enjoy Snatch and 300. Roadhouse is badass too. Jurassic World was surprisingly enjoyable, but no where near as awesome as the original. The ending was badass though. I also love Predator and Gladiator.

I have never liked The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In fact I prefer Texas Chainsaw Massacre II to the original.

I enjoyed the second Texas Chainsaw Masacre movie too. But everything after the first two movies sucked.

Jurassic World is a movie that brought my childhood rushing back to me. They absolutely nailed this sequel in ways i couldn't imagine. In my opinion this is one of the best sequels of the past 20 years, and its a movie that actualy lives up to the original.

45. The Texas Chainsaw Masacre

http://i67.tinypic.com/2jg57v7.jpg
"That's the last ******* hitchhiker I ever pick up."
Old School horror at its very finest. Forget the cheap scares of modern horror, because this is what horror is all about. This movie is intense, disturbing, and truly terrifying. Its everything i love about a true horror movie.

44. Predator

http://i63.tinypic.com/10h57hz.jpg
"She says the jungle... it just came alive and took him."

Guns, Knives, Explosions, Cheesey lines, and a gang of some of the most badass men chasing an Alien around the jungle... whats not to like?. This is another very cool action movie to crack my list, and for damn good reason.

43. Gladiator

http://i64.tinypic.com/5kkmsy.jpg
"Brothers, what we do in life echoes in eternity."
Gladiator has a fantastic cast delivering some excellent performances. It has a great story, and some really epic battles. This movie looks amazing, and it was an easy choice when creating this countdown.
Only wish massacre wasnt on that block of movies was voting for the rest.

I have enjoyed your previous lists, Opt, so I'm looking forward to this one. Excellent start.

Jaws is a masterpiece. Tense, terrifying and bloody good entertainment. 300 is one fun action-packed adrenaline-fueled testosterone-filled film of the most entertaining kind. Totally nails the comic book look and feel too. Snatch is indeed everything you said about it. Great movie.

SO GLAD to see Jurassic World here. I thought it was excellent! Loved it. TCM is one of the best horrors out there, Predator is one of the best 80s action films and Gladiator I remember to be a really good epic.

I'll be watching....

I can't believe I'm ACTUALLY catching a list from the very beginning!!
And this is looking to be a very solid one! SUHWEET!!

Also, I couldn't agree more when it comes to Snatch. DAMN GOOD movie!! Have you ever seen Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels?

Camo 10-13-16 12:38 AM

Re: Top 50 Favourites - Optimus

TCM is great, Gladiator is good. Predator is one of those films that i used to love but i haven't seen since i was a teenager so i have no idea if it would hold up. Haven't seen Jurrasic World.

Thanks guys. Glad to see so many fans of Snatch too.

gbgoodies 10-13-16 02:22 AM

Jaws is one of the few movies I love that some people call a horror movie. (I don't consider it a horror movie. I think it's more of a thriller, but either way, it's a great movie.)

I liked Roadhouse, but it's not really my type of movie, so I wouldn't call it a favorite, but it's a good movie.

I liked Jurassic World, but it's not as good as the original Jurassic Park.

I've not seen Rocky II, but I didn't like the first one so I've no desire to see it. I tried watching The Lost Boys a few years ago but couldn't get through it. I feel like that's a movie that would've benefited from the nostalgia factor, but since I don't think I ever watched it as a child it didn't have that going for it. Flight was solid, but not a favorite. Despite being a bit of a Pixar fangirl, I'm not overly fond of the original Toy Story or its sequel (which is not to say that I dislike them), but I thought Toy Story 3 was really good.

I just saw you gave me a bunch of rep for my Top 50 List from 2010. I still love all those movies, but my Top 100 is more recent. I need to redo it again though, it's been three years.

A sequel that packs a punch -- haha. No but seriously, Rocky II is just as good, just as exciting, and just as well written as the original. I much prefer the ending in this movie, and it delivers that feel good factor just as well as Rocky.

41. Toy Story 3

http://i67.tinypic.com/xmncd0.jpg
"I should have seen this coming! It's Emily all over again!"
The Toy Story trilogy is one of the best trilogy's ever made, so it's only fair i include one of the movies. The third in the series is not only the best movie in the trilogy, its also the best animated movie ever made. Fun characters, great story, and a ton of heart make this the perfect family movie.

40. Flight

http://i67.tinypic.com/11qk7z6.jpg
"Nobody could've landed that plane like I did."
Denzel Washington is one of the finest actors around, and Flight showcases maybe his best performance yet. Across the board the cast all deliver some fine performances, topped with a great story and Flight had to make my list.

39. The Lost Boy's

https://s13.postimg.org/sfz4j7inb/IMG_4915.jpg
" Great! The Bloodsucking Brady Bunch!"
Bad acting, cheesy lines, very camp characters, and catchy 80's soundtracks are all reasons to avoid a movie these days. But back in 1987 all those things made this fantastic movie. The Lost boys is one of the coolesr movies i've ever seen and another easy pick for my list.
Only reason voted was for Lost Boys and Rocky 2 in that bunch of films.

Re: Top 50 Favourites - Optimus

I loved the first sequel to Rocky! Almost as good as the original and it expanded on the story, universe and characters perfectly. Just like with Halloween II, I think the two movies very much go hand in hand.

Toy Story and its sequel was probably my favorite films as a child. I even had a shirt from Toy Story 2 and I still love them to this day. For me though, the third film was a let down. I liked elements of it, but overall I think it was just a safe route for the franchise to go in. A total rehash of the original films, notably the second one. A shame.

Flight was really good. I don't feel like watching it again though. It's a good one time watch biography and John Goodman is awesome (as always) in this! Denzel definitely brings it too.

Haven't seen The Lost Boys...

In my opinion i like rocky 2 better then Rocky 1 for they finally end the Apollo vs Rocky fight where Rocky wins and it meant something instead of non title fight.

The fight in Rocky 1 meant something. But it was never about winning or losing, it was about his love for Adrian. Rocky 1 was a love story and I applaud it for not being a cliché with big fight and having the protagonist win like always.

cricket 10-13-16 06:59 PM

The only movies I don't like so far are Jurassic World and Toy Story 3.

Haven't seen 300.

Re: Top 50 Favourites - Optimus

Haven't seen Flight yet, its on the back burner.
Lost Boys IS something for nostalgia or otherwise don't bother. Now, I DO get caught up in it anytime I catch it on cable or what have you.
I remember Rocky II being pretty good though its been decades since seeing it.

JayDee 10-13-16 09:57 PM

Not too shabby so far. Of the first set I like Jaws and Roadhouse but hated 300. I was on board for about 15-20 minutes but then the gimmick of the visuals wore off and I found it a bit of a trudge to get through. Predator I used to love but have really gone off the last few times I've watched it. In fact I think there was recently a thread on here about films that get worse with every viewing, and that would be one of mine.

Your third set is the best so far for me. I love Rocky II and The Lost Boys and like Flight. Toy Story 3 is a strange one. The first time I saw it I absolutely loved it. The couple of viewings since then however have not reached those heights and at the moment I'd have it as my least favourite of the trilogy. Though I do still really like it.

Agreed, i much prefer Rockys ending as well as his story with Adrian to Rocky 2.

Haven't seen Deadpool. Donnie Brasco is solid but not a big favourite of mine, the books is much better. SE7EN is my favourite Fincher and one of my favourite films overall. Con Air is not a good film but it is dumb fun.

Re: Top 50 Favourites - Optimus

Big plus rep for Se7en and Con Air. I haven't seen Donnie Brasco in a very long time, so can't say much about it. Deadpool was entertaining enough for a single watch but isn't something I want to see again.

gbgoodies 10-15-16 03:19 AM

The first Toy Story movie is my favorite of the trilogy, but I like the whole Toy Story trilogy, including Toy Story 3.

I haven't seen Flight, but I like Denzel Washington, and I've heard that it's a very good movie, so I'll probably watch it eventually.

The Lost Boys is one of the few vampire movies that I like, but I saw a free preview of it many years ago, (before it was released to the theaters), so I don't know if that was different from the released version.

Se7en is a very good movie, even though it isn't really my type of movie.

I saw the first few minutes of Con Air on TV many years ago, but I've never seen the rest of the movie. It looked like a good movie, but I hate Nicolas Cage, so I've never gotten around to seeing the rest of it.

MovieMeditation 10-15-16 07:20 AM

I have yet to see Donnie Brasco... it's been on my watchlist for a very long time though so I'm definitely interested.

Se7en gets better and better with every viewing. It's a really solid piece of cinema and it looks great visually and you can almost feel the different sets of the movie.

Con Air is so much fun. Dumb, cheesy and over-the-too, bur it's entertaining as hell! Great memorable performance all-round too within the frame of the set-up of the movie.

Deadpool is pretty funny and overall a good time. I liked it a little more the second time around. But its negatives are also its positives. The humor and style it has is both funny at times and annoying and offputting.

Re: Top 50 Favourites - Optimus

Good selection never seen Donnie Brasco but liked Deadpool and Optimus must have copied my list for my last entry was Con Air in my action movie list. Seven is always a good solid film for any list.

Re: Top 50 Favourites - Optimus

I've only seen Scarface once and liked it quite a bit. It needs another watch though for me to know where I stand other than simply "liking it".

American Psycho is great. Very amusing dark comedy combined with an amazing performance by Bale makes this a very creepy and unsettling movie to be entertained by. Mostly funny and with a slight sense of something off-putting. All of which is positives for the movie though!

Love Rocky. I was surprised how indie it felt. It wasn't at all as super sentimental or cheesy or dumb as I thought it would. It was a genuine movie experience and a great little story.

Casino Royale is indeed one of (if not) the best Bond movie yet. Great pick.

JayDee 10-15-16 09:30 PM

 for the set covering #38-35. Donnie Brasco is a very good film, Con Air certainly is not a good film but is a lot of fun. Deadpool I enjoyed a lot more than I was expecting to. The trailers had done nothing for me but I found it funny and also thought the romance was surprisingly sweet. Plus Morena Baccarin spent pretty much the entire third act in her underwear. That was a big positive.

And then Se7en is brilliant though I'm never entirely sure how much I love it because it's just so unrelentingly bleak and harsh. Unfortunately I'm not sure I can rep your last set, which is a shame because I absolutely love Rocky and have done since I was a kid. However I've not seen Scarface and don't particuarly care for either American Psycho or Casino Royale

I really need to dive properly into the Lethal Weapon series, since I only remember seeing some of bits and pieces of every movie. Casino is really good and all, but the narration is a little too much to say the least.

Face/Off is one of the best action movies ever. Everything you said is true. Batman Begins is a truly solid superhero flick. I like it less today, but it's still solid.

The Lethal Weapon series is full of action, full of humour, and full of crazy sh** between Murtaugh and Rigg's which is just great fun to watch. The first in the series is the best and deserves its spot on my list.

+ rep for Lethal Weapon. Out of curiosity, which Lethal Weapon movie is the one with Joe Pesci teaching us not to order our food from the drive-thru? (I think it might be the second movie, but I'm not sure.)

Re: Top 50 Favourites - Optimus

Finally!

The Lego Movie was something I looked forward to because I loved lego as a kid and the movie seemed to bring a lot of fun, inside jokes and a visual style that respected its source material. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan. The visuals were still cool and some of the humor was really good, but overall I didn't like it much.

Don't kill me, but I haven't seen Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, yet... and neither have you, appearently, since you seem to rank the Johnny Depp version here I see. :D

Home Alone is a whole lot of fun, but the sequel is a little too much of a rehash of the original. I did like the new additions; the setting and a few scenes here and there.

The Dark Knight is a masterpiece. Blockbusters are usually a lot of fun and rarely would I call them favorites, but TDK is a genuinely well-crafted movie with a great story, interesting characters and it's a blast to watch. I still love it to this day.

JayDee 10-22-16 11:44 AM

The Lego Movie I thought was ok but didn't live up to all the hype I'd heard beforehand. And while I appreciated the idea behind its finale I just found the transition rather jarring. I'll give it another go someday. I love Willy Wonka (not Charlie) & the Chocolate Factory and have since I was a wee nipper. Though it's really only the second half that I love, from the moment when Gene Wilder enters proceedings. He's what makes the film. And the Home Alone films are also childhood favourites that I still love.

I've seen The Dark Knight two or three times and have been unable to warm to it; it just leaves me completely cold. I just found it too grim and broody and after a decent performance in Batman Begins, for me it's here that Bale's performance starts to slip into self-parody almost with his gloomy moodiness (I think he's channeling the kids from Twilight!) and growly voice. I'll return to it again at some point to see if it finally clicks for me. I've got a few other criticisms of the film but Batman/Nolan fanboys tend to be quite aggressive and don't take well to criticism so I'll keep them to myself. :D

29. Casino

"Take care Steve, take chances and drive fast."
Casino is one of my favourite Scorsese movies out there. Sharon Stone is fantastic delivering her best performance of her career, looking damn hot doing so. This movie is dark, brutal, and not for the squamish, especially because of the ending. True gangster movie.
:rotfl: Damn, i love you Optimus. I sent him a post comment saying he typed "screamish" and probably meant "squeamish", and he's changed it to "squamish" :rotfl:

I thought that version was called Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?

Anyway, not a fan of it or The Lego Movie and haven't seen either Home Alone a long time. I loved The Dark Knight when I first saw it, but the last time I watched it I only loved Ledger's performance.

gbgoodies 10-23-16 02:19 AM

I expected The Lego Movie to be basically a long commercial for the toys, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It turned out to be a fun movie.

Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory has been a favorite movie of mine since I was a child, and it still is. Gene Wilder made a lot of great movies, but IMO, this is his best.

Re: Top 50 Favourites - Optimus

Despite of all the so-called cinephiles who brush off the "cult flick turned mainstream trash", Fight Club, I still stand by that it is a great film and it gets better with every viewing because of how much is put into it, the script, the visuals etc.

American History X is not a movie I feel like rewatching over and over again, but the few times (around 2 or 3) I've seen it, I loved it. Great flick.

I don't love Heat like everybody else does, but I respect it and find it well-made and executed. A little long, a little slow, slightly bland but not truly boring and the talent behind and in front of the camera makes it a good watch.

True Romance is fun. I like it, but I don't love it. Only seen it once though...

Huge fan of Willy Wonka, Fight Club & Heat while the others are still good movies to watch; the exception, for me, being the Home Alone movies.

Lovin this list, optimus

Can't stand Boogie Nights.

Seen Troy a looong time ago... Can't even remember if I saw the whole film. I should revisit it sometime, despite the cheesiness of whatever I remember it to be (and has also been critiqued for, which I guess is why you wanted to justify it in advance :p)

Reservoir Dogs is a great little movie. Classic Tarantino and a fantastic debut film! I liked Boogie Nights a little less last time I saw it, but it's still awesome... GoodFellas is still a masterpiece last time I checked and the best gangster film ever made (if we are considering The Godfather a mafia film... you know, same same but different)

Good picks!

haven't seen Boogie Nights but a HUGE fan of Reservoir Dogs and Goodfellas. Troy I'm kinda on the fence with. Love the parts with Pitt and Brian Cox but Orlando's character just irritated the ***** outta me. If I was his brother I would have shoved him out the front gates along with Helen when the army first arrived. "Here's your lady back and the dumb@ss that took her. Sorry you had to come all the way out here. Have a falafel."

I've been meaning to watch Warrior and This is England, but never seem to get around to it. I haven't seen the original Terminator in many years, but I did like it in the past. Warriors is a good bit of fun, but I don't know that I'll ever watch it again.

I rewatched T2 the other day and enjoyed it, but it felt a bit dated. I like Pulp Fiction, but it's been many years since I last watched it.

40. Flight

"Nobody could've landed that plane like I did."
Denzel Washington is one of the finest actors around, and Flight showcases maybe his best performance yet. Across the board the cast all deliver some fine performances, topped with a great story and Flight had to make my list.

The rep is for these two films.

Love The Wolf of Wall Street and Max Max: Fury Road.
I also like Die Hard and it was a favorite when I was a kid, but not so much anymore.

I hated Iron Man.

The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day is one of those rare occasions when the original movie is great, but the sequel is even better.

I love Iron Man. It's the role that Robert Downey Jr. was born to play.

I wasn't surprised that Die Hard topped the recent Action Movies Countdown, but while I think it's a great movie, it just didn't hold up as well for me on a recent rewatch.

Thanks mate. Gonna be bored without this list now.

This is an excellent list which I only have a couple of minor quibbles...I hated Batman Begins and The Wolf of Wall Street, and there are a couple of films on the list that I have never seen, but it's a very solid list.

Congrats on finishing your list Optimus. Just added it to the countdowns list.

Just a quick catch-up on some of your choices. Fight Club I used to love but I've not watched it for a good long while. American History X I think is a really great film but because of the subject matter it's not one I'd ever be able to 'love'. Heat I've only seen once several years back and was left pretty indifferent by it but I'll give it a go again someday. Big  for True Romance and Warrior. Hated Boogie Nights and felt largely the same about From Dusk Till Dawn. There is however also a number of films there that I love including both Terminator flicks, Die Hard and Iron Man.

I'd express my thoughts on Fury Road but I don't want to enrage Vicky again. :p Aliens I actually only saw for the first time last week; I thought I'd finally watch it with the sci-fi countdown coming up. I thought it was decent but I also had a number of issues with it and don't get why it's got such a passionate following. And Batman Returns is another I love, though it wasn't always the case. When I was younger I really didn't care for it whatsoever. I think it was just too dark and gloomy for me. In fact when I would watch through the Batman films as a kid I'm pretty sure I would skip that one to get to Batman Forever and Batman & Robin; the films I considered to be 'the good ones'. To think I was ever that young and stupid! :D However I saw it again a few years back and a couple of times since and have really fallen for it. I've discovered that I often love films with great production/art design (sets, costumes, props, make-up, special fx) and Batman Returns certainly qualifies.
