Your favorite single movie scene of all time.
Mine is Orson Welles in "Compulsion" where he gives the summation plea to the jury who are charged to decide whether two murderers should get the death penalty or life in prison.
My second favorite is the airport scene at the end of "Casablanca." |
Re: Your favorite single movie scene of all time.
Good god, how do you narrow it down to just one or two?
Off the top of my head: Ghostbusters - right after they capture Slimer. Egon casually hand-signing prices to Venkman as he discusses the bill with the hotel manager Galaxy Quest - When Dr. Lazarus delivers his famous line, but he means it. Caddyshack - Rodney Dangerfield in the pro shop |
Re: Your favorite single movie scene of all time.
Older: 'Rome, Open City' - separation scene
Recent: The end of 'The Quiet Girl' |

Great moment. The old "tears in rain speech" in BR. The scene where Salieri helps Mozart complete the Requiem. |
"...anyway, we delivered the bomb." No matter how many times I watch it, I always forget to breathe and hang onto every one of Robert Shaw's words.
Other contenders: Amadeus - another vote for Mozart dictating his Requiem to Salieri One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - The ending Paris, Texas - Travis talks to Jane at the peep show To Live and Die in L.A. - the car chase |
Re: Your favorite single movie scene of all time.
"I'm your older brother, Mike, and I was stepped over!"
|
The bridge scene in "Sorcerer".
The park bench scene in "Good Will Hunting". The opening credits of " Zombieland". The closing number in "The 40 Year Old Virgin". Howard Beale's rant in " Network". The car chase in "The Seven Ups". The toll booth scene in " Blazing Saddles". I could go on and on... |

Oh god, how could I forget the Indianapolis speech... I was just talking to someone about this the other day. |

I could go on and on... I'd go with Bart's first appearance as the sheriff (with Count Basie's orchestra) and his subsequent riding into town. "Excuse me while I whip this out." |
Oh, forgot a great one.
"Is it safe?" |
Re: Your favorite single movie scene of all time.
Animal House - mid-term grades
The absolute disgust in Dean Wormer's voice and the reactions of the different students is just gold. |

Apparently, Robert Shaw and John Milius (Conan the Barbarian, Apocalypse Now) co-wrote the speech. Pretty cool. |

It seems odd to pick a scene where someone is just sitting still and giving a monologue as my favorite, but I guess that's a testament to how good Robert Shaw is in it and how well written it is. John Williams' eerie background music also helps.

I can only imagine what he could have put out if he had lived a while longer. He was the same age that I am when he died. Alcohol is a helluva drug. |

Torgo, are you referring to the "Indianapolis speech scene" in Jaws? It was a good one.

I never fail to get a laugh out of Jimmy Durante's entrance and piano ditty from The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942):
