Christopher Nolan got knighted

It’s a knighthood for the man behind The Dark Knight.

Fresh from their Oppenheimer-fueled Oscar blitz, Christopher Nolan will become Sir Christopher Nolan, while his producing partner and wife Emma Thomas has received a damehood.

King Charles III bestowed the creative industry honors on Thursday afternoon, with Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos was also being recognized.

Sarandos was awarded an Honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire, according to a document published by the British government.

The UK’s Foreign Office can recommend honorary awards for citizens of countries that do not have the King as head of state. Steven Spielberg and Angelina Jolie are among those previously given gongs.

Sarandos said: “The UK’s creative brilliance, quality craftsmanship and best in class production facilities make it an extraordinary place to invest. We couldn’t be more excited to be part of the creative community here and this is a real honour.”

Sir Christopher Nolan xDDDDDDDDDDD

Sorry, I just can't.

That is a little ridiculous, and so random. You’d think CIII has got enough going on. Ah well.

The Netflix guy being named Honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire is even more ridiculous than Nolan getting knighthood, imho.

Also, Batman fans can now brag that The Dark Knight was directed by an actual knight... :p

Ridley Scott, Stephen Frears, Steve McQueen and Sam Mendes already have knighthoods so not really that surprising.

If they'd given one to Tom Hooper they'd have had to take it back after Cats.

I get the impression that Christopher Nolan is a bit of a nerd. With this honor, he has achieved what may be the highest level of nerddom. All that's left is traveling to space (which he may have already done).

Correction: all that's left is making a movie in space :p

Gosh, I don’t know if true nerds care about all this OBE/knighthood business.

It's required for true nerds to have a copy of The Once and Future King and/or an Excalibur DVD in their households, so I can see it being a big deal.

Re: Christopher Nolan got knighted

He's now in the esteemed company of Jimmy Saville and Robert Mugabe.

He should have declined it like David Bowie did.

Re: Christopher Nolan got knighted

That would be an honor, considering the people involved.

I heard Dame Judy Dench showed up to her knighthood dressed like this, and she still has hers.
