Worst Best Picture Oscar?

My vote is

1st Titanic (1997) - should have been "As Good as it Gets"

2nd Chicago (2002) - should have been Lord of Rings Two Towers

Hellraiser 06-18-04 03:20 PM

Schindlers list. Feel asleep during half the movie.

Titanic, I can understand and totally agree on but Schindler's List is the film I consider as one of Spielbergs best. The cinematography and acting were excellant, it had reason, purpose and emotional grit.

I consider the likes of Saving Private Ryan boring in places but I wouldn't detract from its greatness either because my attention span couldn't handle the entire movie.

Of all-time, the dubious honor goes to The Greatest Show On Earth (1952), but Gladiator (2002) and Around the World in 80 Days (1956) are just behind it. The English Patient is pretty fu*kin' dreadful, as is Titanic from the past ten years or so.

The two that still piss me off the most are Ordinary People (which actually is pretty ordinary) and Dances with Wolves (which is just retarded), inexplicably chosen over Raging Bull and GoodFellas, respectively (or rather, disrepectfully).

Out of curiosity, what is it that you dislike about Dances With Wolves so much?

Sedai 06-18-04 05:32 PM

My vote has to be Gladiator.

uconjack 06-19-04 12:24 AM

I agree with Holden that The Greatest Show On Earth (1952), Around the World in 80 Days (1956) and the The English Patient are not only not Best Pictures but not even good pictures, but...

Gladiator!!!!!

As the cops in True Romance would say,"That's a good f--in movie".

Chariots of Fire... endless talking about running, then endless slo-mo scenes of running... :o

Chicago. I think it only won because Gangs of New York was seen as Anti American at the time. Chicago is just terrible, I hate it. I got bored after about 20 minutes and had to return the DVD to the Co-Op.
Titanic is the other one I vote for, but at least that was a little interesting at times (mainly when the boat sank).

Shakespeare in Love edges out Kramer vs. Kramer.

But there are endless others;

Tom Jones

My Fair Lady

Oliver!

The Sting

Rocky

The Last Emperor

Driving Miss Daisy

The Return Of The King

Right now, I gotta say that Midnight Cowboy is my least favorite, followed up by In the Heat of the Night. And once again, not a big fan of Platoon.

Well, I just watched How Green Was My Valley and I've got to put that one on the top of my list.

Re: Worst Best Picture Oscar?

How Green was My Valley just seems very overly dull to me. The ending was really the only part worth anything to me.

Easy. Slumdog Millionaire. Complete garbage.

Okay Mark, I'll just list the rest I dislike.

The Broadway Melody

The song and dance numbers were terrible and Queenie's friend, whatever her name was, yipped like a Chihuahua the whole film.

Cimarron

C'mon sugar, do they really erect monuments to men who abandon their families?

Cavalcade

So every important event in British history this family was at?
Also it has a really annoying montage scene.

The Life of Émile Zola

One the most boring speeches in history.

Rebecca

Fire the bitch maid.

Mrs. Miniver

Watch Mrs. Miniver's family and friends conquer The Nazi's!

Going My Way

I hate musicals!

Gentleman's Agreement

The Peck character was way too self righteous for someone who wasn't Jewish. Should have been about the John Garfield character.

An American in Paris

See above.

The Sound of Music

See above.

Out of Africa

A beautiful nothing.

Forrest Gump

I ran so far, I ran to China.

The English Patient

See Out of Africa.

Gladiator

Like it better when it was Spartacus.

Chicago

See above. Also the makers of this film didn't go out of there way to make look any better than the stage play that it is.

Million Dollar Baby

Whatever her names family.

The Departed

Liked it better when it was Infernal Affairs.

On second thought, I didn't like that either.
