For the 2000s, I say without question 2007. You have There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men in the same year, which IMO were the two best films of that decade.
In that year, you also have gems like: The Assassination of Jesse James Zodiac Eastern Promises Michael Clayton Gone Baby Gone Before The Devil Knows You're Dead The Orphanage Sunshine Juno An extremely robust year. |

Re: Best Year in Cinema of Every Decade.
Tough decade. The following directors were active in the 40's: Charlie Chaplin, Orson Welles, Howard Hawkes, and Alfred Hitchcock.
1940's 1940 I looked at a top 50 films of the 40's list and 1946 had the most movies listed (8), however quality wise I think 1940 has the best Fantasia The Bank Dick (W. C. Fields) Foreign Correspondent (Hitchcock) Gaslight Grapes of Wrath The Great Dictator (Chaplin) His Girl Friday (Hawkes) The Philadelphia Story Rebecca (Hitchcock) The Shop around the Corner (Lubitsche) |
