Movie where dad calls the office throughout to update his whereabouts
 

A movie that must be before the most basic mobile phones? American - no idea of any part of the story or stars - this one part sticks out and its bugging me lots

Comedy family film as much as I can remember..

While all kinds of stuff is going on with the family the father? is in the background going from place too place with them and calling from the landline to state where he can be contacted at that time and does so each new location

He says something like I am no longer on 555.... im now on 555... till such a time when im available at....

goes on all the way through the movie as he ignores whats going on with the family

an ideas?

It sounds like "Play it again Sam" by Woody Allen. It was not the dad who kept calling in this movie; it was a businessman who was so into business that he drove his wife into an affair.
