I was originally going to put this in the Movie Discussion thread because I wanted to see if there were actually 3 characters in the movies I'd actually want to have dinner with. Alas, I could only think of one guest I'd truly love to have over: Hannibal Lecter.

So, I am expanding this question to include anyone in the History of the World. If you could have any three historical persons over for fish n' chips, who would it be?

I still have to think about this some more, because I keep changing my mind. There seem to be too many notorious Renaissance popes on me list. :confused:

Hmmm, I think it would actually be Hannibal Lecter who would have you (as an "old friend") for dinner ;D!!

This is a pretty hard question...how about putting Adolf Hitler, Atilla the Hun, and Julius Caesar together? I'm sure that would make for interesting conversation... :D!!

OK first off this was hard to narrow down to three, five would have been better. Here we go, Im sure Ive forgotten somebody.

Hannibal would find me a pretty tough entree, I'm thinking. Before I enter his house, I would first ruin my liver & kidneys with a keg of cheap American beer; hence, my "Bud-tainted" sweetmeats wouldn't appeal.

My three dinner guests from History:
1. Oscar Wilde
2. Pope Alexander VI, the Borgia Pope, father of Lucrezia Borgia and six illegitimate sons (among them, the murderous Cesare Borgia).
3. Tiberius Caesar. This was a toughie. Could not make up my mind for the longest time between Augustus, Tiberius, Nero & Caligula. I finally went for the embittered Caesar, Tiberius, of whom many disgusting (if titillating) stories are told by Suetonius. I think Suetonius made up some stuff though.

I do not know if I would be comfortable with Christ as a dinner guest, even though I was almost clergy at one point. I might be paralyzed with awe. On the other hand, Attila the Hun might not have much to say at all -- being a Hun would necessarily limit his conversational skills.

4. Oops, there is one other fellow I must add to this list -- make that four guests. I want to invite the First Emperor of China, Zheng Huangdi, to my dinner. He became emperor of the Qin State in 240 BC or thereabouts, built the Great Wall of China, and his is the great tomb guarded by the amazing terracotta army. I have a lot of questions to ask him about what the hell's in that tomb of his. (Yup, I am more interested in him dead than alive.) There are rumors that within the tomb walls, the ceilings are studded with precious stones to simulate the night sky, and that there is a river of liquid mercury which imitates the course of the Yangtze. So far, the tomb has not been excavated -- if it ever is, and it wasn't robbed, it must be the Find of the Millennium, hundreds of times more important than boring old King Toot.

So I have an Emperor of China, an Emperor of Rome, a fun-loving Pope, and a witty English playwright. Should be finger-lickin' good.

The Godfather (Marlon Brando's character)--It would be interesting to see how a man can marry family and the necessary brutality of his lifestyle/job.

Mr. Death in MEET JOE BLACK. He doesn't have to look like Brad Pitt. (I prefer Mr. Death to look like Jennifer Lopez.) In fact I've seen the original pic. JOE BLACK's a remake of DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY. A much better picture. BLACK was too long. And the ending was lame. But I would like to talk to Mr. Death about what its like to be the GRIM REAPER.

DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY was a great movie. It starred Fredric March, I think. I was so disappointed in MEET JOE BLACK. Three hours long, and I got no particular impression of Death except he likes peanut butter. And then, after that looong, very loooooooong farewell scene between Death & the girl, he had to come back ALIVE !!! Total cop-out! In the movies, Death should be a fearful thing, or what would be the point? Don't give me all these boring Angels of D who close your eyes and whisper, "Death is not an End, but a Beginning." Bleeech!

Ach, you people are far too critical! Although I can't boast that I have seen Death Takes a Holiday, I still thought MJB was a pretty good movie (granted, it was a bit long winded, but still)...

It didn't bother you, Zeph, that every leave-taking (between Claire Forlani & Pitt, between Claire & Hopkins, between Hopkins & Pitt) took so long that my toenails grew an inch in the interval? There were a couple of great moments though: Pitt being struck by the vehicle (truly shocking!) and Pitt talking to that old lady in the hospital in her native patois. And Bill Parrish's HOUSE! I want a house like that.

3. Artemisia I of Caria(wayyyyyyyyyy back) - rather different to how she's portrayed in the film 300: Rise of an Empire but if she looked anything like Eva Green that would be a plus... :)

Some people I admire are woman 'warriors' and strong/powerful/intelligent Queens from donkeys ago. So be nice to have a few round the dinner table for a chat.

In those three you have the straight man (Agent K) to the two more larger-than-life guests (Venkman, Jillian).

Three characters from history I'd invite to dinner:

1. Guy Fawkes
2. Princess Diana
3. Winston Churchill

I think that would offer quite a fun and diverse mixture of guests. I'm not really interested in history, but I find The Gunpowder Plot and Princess Diana pretty fascinating subjects. Churchill always sounds like he was an inspirational man, and he would provide some great conversations during the dinner.

1. Steven Moffat (Technically counts. He wrote the TinTin movies.).
2. JK Rowling (Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them), (Although I don't always agree with her views)
3. Peter Jackson (I'd love to find out what happened to the Doctor Who episode he wanted to direct)

I quite like the sound of that :).

Doctor Who-wise I couldn't miss the chance to have Tom Baker over, with Paul McGann and the ghost of John Hurt.

I could imagine they'd have interesting stories to tell. The only problem with Tom Baker is that I've heard he can be quite domineering towards the other Doctors when placed in the same room as them.

I don't know though, the prospect of life after death would probably wrong-foot him for at least ten seconds :p;). It was great to find out that he and Hurt had been friends in the Seventies and had obviously socialised. Even funnier was hearing that Baker described Hurt as insane while Hurt had referred to him as the voice of reason :D.
