The dog in Apocalypse Now
 
Well, sorry for the stupid question, but does the dog die in Apocalypse Now? A friend and I couldn’t agree. I think because we don’t see it die, it doesn’t.

Do they not lose it around about the arrow shooting scene. We don't know its fate.

In seriousnessnessess though, the puppy's fate is left to the viewer as to whether it drowned or not during the attack.

Since Chef is the one who first discovers it (and then fights with Lance over who gets to keep it), it's safe to assume the dog exists.

Also worth noting that

WARNING: "Apocalypse Now" spoilers below
the dog disappears at the same time that Clean is killed (and is the first member of the crew to die)


so make of that what you will.

Just watched Apocalypse Now tonight for the upteenth time. I am hoping the dog lived. I wonder what happened to the dog in real life?

The water buffalo on the other hand most definitely did not make it. Neither in the film nor in real life.
