Old kids movie about a dragon
 

I really need help finding an old kids movie, here's what we remember.

A dragon crashes into a kids playhouse and eats catfood with knitting needles. He takes one of his scale and puts it into a bucket of water to create a portal.
I think there was also a talking cat and dog and maybe a talking tree at the end. We're pretty sure it was from around the 90's. It was a live action/CGI type movie. The kids *may* have had australian accents but we can't really remember.

I'm only guessing Pete's Dragon because it's the first thing that comes to mind. I remember the dragon was animated while everything else was live action. It was my middle school music teacher who showed it to us but that was just because we were singing a song from it so I remember almost nothing from it. It also sounds like it considering the accents, you know Disney movies and their accents. If not that, it sounds like it could've been some knock off of the film.

Through the Dragon's Eye from 1989 fits the time. The lead boy is from England.

I just want you to know that you're not alone in this. My brother and I have been looking for this movie as well. I think it might've been british or canadian, and it definitely had live action portions and something to do with a crystal and a portal right?

I remember the crystal was red and looked like sugar glass.

I'm also looking for this movie, and if I ever find it, I'll be sure to post it here!

I think you might have found it, wositelec. It's remarkable that the IMDb listing for this film makes zero reference to the fact that a 'Dragon' is a key/vital character in the movie. Not very helpful at all.

I've tried to find a trailer or some video, but no luck I'm afraid. However, it may be possible to download (purchase) a copy of the film from the person who wrote the story they based it on. There's a discussion on a reddit page about the movie, and somebody put the link to the 'downloads' section of the movie author's website.
