How did Turner & Hooch have a sad ending?

WARNING: "Turner and Hooch" spoilers below
The dog gets shot and dies, that seems at least a little depressing.

In any case, I have to wonder how exactly one defines "depressing" in the context of an ending. Quite a few of these answers strike me as bittersweet more than anything - The BIg Lebowski in particular has a fairly sombre climax but the final scene is one of hopefulness and acceptance more than anything. I almost cited Harold and Maude before realising that it existed along similarly bittersweet lines.

I've been trying to think of a comedy with a depressing ending, how about?
