Favorite Movie By Country

I've been watching far more foreign films lately than I usually do, so I thought I'd make a list of my favorite per country. I'd be greatly interested in seeing other lists.

Italy - La Sconosciuta
France - Au Revoir Les Enfants
India - B13
Japan - Audition
Sweden - My Life as a Dog
Denmark - Du Er Ikke Alene
Spain - Bad Education

I have 1 up vote.

My Life as a Dog is not only my favorite Swedish movie, but one of my all time favorites. I've given some 36 films a ten star rating on IMDb, out of about two thousand; My Life as a Dog is one of them.

It is my all time favorite and has been for a really long time. It probably always will be. I love that movie.

I came very close to choosing The Castle, but I love everything about Wolf Creek. The atmosphere, the performances, the storyline, everything is executed excellently, in my opinion, of course. I know there are plenty of people who don't like it, but I love it.

Godoggo 09-10-11 06:05 AM

I read Thracian Dawg's post and I want to change my favorite South African movie from Tsotsi to District 9.

Also adding a couple

Taiwan- Yi Yi

New Zealand- Out of the Blue, Heavenly Creatures

South Korea- Host

Iran- No One Knows About Persian Cats

I think I'll use Thracian's country list and see what I can come up with. Police Academy 6...crazy!

edit: Nah, too much effort.

Godoggo 09-10-11 02:49 PM

I forgot America and Canada. I suck at the list game. Might as well throw a couple more countries in as well.

America- Cabaret

Canada- Eastern Promises

Cuba- Strawberry and Chocolate

Belgium- My Life in Pink

I do not typically like Canadian films, but I guess the best I've seen is Pin: A Plastic Nightmare.

Re: Favorite Movie By Country

My three favorite Canadian films are probably The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, Lies My Father Told Me and Jesus of Montreal. Then there's always Guy Maddin.

Re: Favorite Movie By Country

Are people really having trouble with Canadian films or is a case of thinking they're American? I understand that my love of horror means that I could probably come up with a few more Canadian films than some, but even if you limited yourself to Cronenberg films you'll end up with a decent choice.
