As someone who owns two high value Mets this has been annoying, to say the least.
If you think it's bad being a team owner, you should try being a Mets fan this season. They've played eight games, and postponed seven. At this pace, we won't finish the season until after Christmas.

TONGO 04-17-21 11:14 AM

I know it doesn't matter what the standings are the first 17 days into the season, but its just body reflex when i wince at falling to 7th place :lol:

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

Yeah, same. I'll be in a good mood because I went up five spots or something even though right now that's a pretty normal fluctuation.

That said, I feel more in tune with the league and a lot of the players involved than I usually do at this point. I was waiting for this year, heck, sort of for two years, since last year was so weird. I feel like I'm already engaged at the kind of level I usually am in the middle of the year, or even the stretch run.

Is that good? Who knows!

Yoda 04-18-21 05:22 PM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

Might've just lost Marte and Lynn within minutes of each other, friggin' yikes.

Hey Fredrick 04-19-21 10:19 AM

I try not to overreact this early but sometimes it's difficult. Like every time you look at your team and they're going 9/40 on a good night and you start looking at the waivers and seeing guys you've never heard of crushing the ball. What gets me the most at this time of the year is seeing a pitching line with an era of 1.8 a whip of .80, 8 K's and 5 ip. ****!

Yoda 04-19-21 10:33 AM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

Yeah April can be pretty weird. And we all have to play the "is this for real or not?" thing all month. Most of these guys are just streaking, but a few are breakouts, and they look awfully similar, especially from the topline numbers alone.

rauldc14 04-19-21 11:01 AM

Betts comes back from an injury, looks good, then gets HBP a few nights later. Looked like he was in quite a bit of pain afterward. Not good.

Oof, I have him in my other league. Also just sad because Mookie's fun, just as a baseball fan.

Several of my guys just got suspended. Was there a fight or something? Wish they'd get suspended before they give up a bunch of runs tho. My pitching has been spectacular thus far!

Wyldesyde19 04-21-21 01:39 AM

There was something about benches clearing over the weekend when one player shoved another but I can’t recall which teams.

Yep. It was snowing here in Pittsburgh this morning, and the COL-HOU game has stuff comin' down right now. Granted that's in Colorado, but yeah, cold snap throughout the country today and tomorrow, looks like.

That's crazy. Meanwhile. We are experiencing the nicest spring that's ever sprung here. 70's for almost 2 weeks now. In April. On the west coast of Washington. Crazy.

TONGO 04-22-21 12:06 PM

I dropped Kenta Maeda, now I'm wincing in afterthought. Hopefully he will suck and i made the right call. That sounds mean.

I know it's early but it's super amazing how weak my team has been. Think it just needs a shake up

Yoda 04-23-21 11:01 AM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

If anyone's interested in a hitter, I've got a couple to spare, and that's even with Marte and Teoscar out.

Open to moving any of them, don't feel strongly about any particular need at this point in the season, just looking to trade surplus for any kind of value.

rauldc14 04-23-21 11:04 AM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

I'm interested in Marte. Could use another injured guy :)

Yoda 04-23-21 11:06 AM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

Technically I'll trade injured guys, but valuation is super hard in his case given that we don't know how bad it is. It sounds like it might just be a couple of weeks but they haven't provided a timetable.

Hey Fredrick 04-26-21 10:32 AM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

So the big debate (?) today seems to be about the 7 inning no hitter. Is it a no hitter or not? If the league says a game is going to be seven innings (stupid) and you don't give up a hit for seven innings, that to me is a no hitter. These seven inning games need to go.

Also, how do you feel about the DH rule they're trying in the Atlantic League this season? You have a DH until you bring in a relief pitcher then it switches to NL/pitcher hitting rules. I'm not a huge fan of the DH but I think it's about as good a compromise as you're likely to find. Keeps some strategy going into the later innings while also giving the opportunity for a little more offense early on.

Yoda 04-26-21 10:38 AM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

It's not a no-hitter in the way that matters to me, even if it obviously is in a technical sense, and those things are barely baseball games if you ask me. Wasn't nuts about the choice initially and I'm definitely not now, where it no longer seems remotely necessary.

Yoda 04-26-21 10:39 AM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

I don't hate the DH compromise rule. I wouldn't mind seeing it in action. I think it's one of those things that'll either feel right or not in action, but on paper it sounds promising.

Powdered Water 04-29-21 01:28 AM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

Dude... Harper takes a 97mph fastball to the face tonight. Owwweeeee! Good example why I don't play the game. True story. I had just left t-ball. First game with real pitching and I'm playing first base. Kid hits a grounder to me that takes a funny bounce and smacks me right between the eyes and breaks my glasses. End of my amateur career right there. I know I should have got back on the horse but dammit... I was just a kid. It hurt like hell. Hardball to face. I was not prepared for that. Mom was pissed that I broke my glasses of course. We were poor. Ah... goodtimes .

Bleh, misclick before some games started and locked guys means I have to sit either Alonso or Lindor today. Fun.

Hey Fredrick 05-02-21 12:23 PM

Now I'm not much of an advanced stat guy but is it really possible to have a lower OBP than average?

https://i.imgur.com/SosTpkY.png?1

mark f 05-02-21 01:28 PM

If you hit a sacrifice fly, it doesn't count against your average, but it lowers your OBP.

TONGO 05-02-21 07:27 PM

Holy hell, I got 19 Runs today, my offense is going off !! :0

TONGO 05-02-21 07:29 PM

Even my bench is going off, and yes it still hurts if you miss out on that even on a good day.

Yoda 05-02-21 08:09 PM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

Looks like 17, but geez, I legitimately cannot remember ever seeing that many in a day. Not even close. I feel like I've seen 12-13 a handful of times (a few times a year, tops), but that total is completely nuts.

Ah yes, that's the Mariners team I remember... giving up career games to the most unorthodox and most random people in history since 1976.

Wyldesyde19 05-07-21 01:45 PM

Duffy just missed a QS by one out. One friggin out. That has to grind Yodas gears

Yoda 05-07-21 01:56 PM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

Yeah. Even worse than that: he was 0-2 on the batter, and he got dinked and dunked to death beforehand. Particularly the inning before, with a couple of flare hits. I have him in both leagues I'm in, too.

So it goes. Duffy's still having a huge breakout season so I can't complain. Nice to see him regain that elite form he had a few years ago. It's crazy how some pitchers can do that when they find a better pitch mix or add a few MPH velocity.

Be interesting to see if they really mean it, if it finally happens, or if it's leverage. Obviously it could be both. It's been a bad situation there for quite awhile.

Still would really like to see them succeed.

Booo, Lance Lynn, who normally has crazy low pitch counts, only goes five because of three errors and a passed ball on a third strike that doesn't even garner a throw to first (the catcher seemed to just kinda zone out). Otherwise it's an easy QS.

Also Corbin on the bench for a stellar start, his third straight QS. Guess I'm gonna start running him out there again, velocity's back up after that rough start. Glad I stuck with him.

Yoda 05-13-21 05:31 PM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

Ooof, Pineda just shy as well. Two guys looking really good and both falling just short of the QS. Whole lotta that goin' around.

Rolled the dice. Traded Gioloto for Ozuna.

Lindor was my other option. Trying to even it out by taking players off to rough starts.

Sheesh. Yet another pitcher gives up a grand salami. League averages are in the .230's this year but you'd never be able to tell from looking at my pitching staff so far this season. Dead ball my ass!

Same, but geez, so many major injuries this year across the league.

Trout out for a long time, Duffy hit the IL too, and now Rizzo looks like he might. Depth mattering a lot this year.

Wyldesyde19 05-19-21 01:58 PM

Yeah, Trout was doing his usual thing out there. I just looked at his stats and they were impressive as usual, and this is only 40 games into the season.
It’s a big loss as it is, but if you’re suffering from injuries to the rest of your lineup, it’s worse.

It's kind of bad when you consider that the reason I grabbed him in the first place was that he was on a short list of potential breakout candidates I consulted just before the draft. If he had gotten knocked around in April and I threw him to the wire, it would be understandable, but he came out like a champ right away, with me not even giving him one game. I probably won't do that again...

Wyldesyde19 05-19-21 03:43 PM

I lost 2 guys last week too. Guys are dropping like flies! Its especially a bummer to lose a guy when he's in the middle of a huge breakout. You hope he can return and recapture the breakout magic but its unlikely he'll return to those crazy numbers. Probably the first catcher I've ever used an IL spot on!

That's my theory, though more "being a baseball player requires insane and consistent conditioning" rather than anyone being, like, actually out of shape. In most cases at least.

I'm hoping if you have a good ERA by now that a few crappy starts aren't going to kill it much.

Yoda 05-22-21 11:20 AM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

Eh, depends on much. Two bad starts can still jump the whole thing by a third of a run.

The thing I always have to remind myself is just how long the season is. Even if a few days can't swing something, it's kind of amazing how much rate stats can change in just 2-3 weeks if a team's performing consistently well (even if not amazingly so).

I've thought about going without a catcher before, and have done so for short stints. But I guess since we do four counting stats and only two rate stats for hitters, it's probably better to have somebody in there....

Yoda 05-22-21 05:21 PM

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball 2021 - Regular Season

Yeah, I'd say it's fine in little stints, particularly at catcher, but there are enough productive shortstops out there that it's probably gonna be a net loss pretty quickly.
