zhang yimou's Hero

Hi:
It has been a while since my last thread but Internet is very difficult to reach in Cuba. The subject is a chinese movie named Hero. I saw it twice last thursday and... wow. The martial arts genre, or sub genre, has to be proud of this film because it's both entertaining and rock solid as a movie. The narrative takes many unexpected turns, similar to Rashomon, since the story is told from different points of view, each one is represented by colors(red, blue and white) in an astounding work of photography. The images are so beautiful that you may even fly while seen them, the colors are vivid and the landscapes beyond gorgeous. The film stars Jet Li, in a quiet but effective performance; Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung as lovers Broken Sword and Flying Snow, both are very good in their roles, Zhang Ziyi in a secondary role and... Donnie Yen. WATCH THE FIGHT BETWEEN DONNIE YEN AND JET LI, probably one of the best ever seen on screen, exquisite, a pleasure to the eyes. A demonstrarion of the unpararel skill of these artists. The sequence receives a soft treatment by director Zhang Yimou, every detail, from the music to the rain drops is absolutely inspiring. A must see.

Later :)

Shaolin Soccer is good; Hero sucks.

Supposedly Mirimax is going to release Hero wide in early 2004 (Kong thinks Feb. but isn't sure). Don't know how well it'l do though, since practically everyone who really wants to see it has already watched the DVD.
