The only two I can think of that I own are Something Wild and Thief.

That right there IS the Criterion Collection then.
Here’s a link to my movie collection. It’s probably easier to sort by studio and look at the Criterions. I’ve been hardcore collecting movies since I was 12 so... It’s unreasonable at this point |

I have almost bought that Gamera set more than once...
I mean, I can technically afford it I guess. My rent will still be paid and stuff. I'm just struggling to justify that one. |

I fully intended to buy it when it was announced but that was before I knew the cost.

Is that Night of the Hunter that you own the Blu or DVD? The Blu is incredibly expensive, and one that I would love to own. |

I THINK there’s a simpler reprint edition that’s about half the normal cost ($150) that’s almost certainly going to end up in my collection.

From what I see on their site, it looks like they're going to split the films into the Showa and Heisei eras and release them as separate box sets. The total looks to be less than what the original set was going for, but it also looks like they lack all the bells and whistles of the original set.

Re: Post All the Criterion Films You Own
None. Sadly little to no resale value over here for when I'm gone.

Sorry for filling your thread with talk of giant tortoises, Pops. Here's my collection:
1. The Complete Monterey Pop 2. The Kid 3. The Gold Rush 4. The Circus 5. City Lights 6. Modern Times 7. The Great Dictator 8. Monsieur Verdoux 9. Six Short Films by WC Fields 10. It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World 11. M 12. The Testament of Dr. Mabuse 13. Ministry of Fear 14. Passion of Joan of Arc 15. Vampyr 16. The Seventh Seal 17. The Magnificent Ambersons 18. Othello 19. Chimes at Midnight 20. Wages of Fear 21. Diabolique 22. Night of the Hunter 23. The Killing 24. Paths of Glory 25. Dr Strangelove 26. Repulsion 27. Rosemary's Baby 28. Kwaidan 29. The Phantom Carriage 30. Haxan 31. Island of Lost Souls 32. Cat People 33. The Uninvited 34. Beauty and the Beast 35. Eyes Without a Face 36. Monsters and Madmen 37. The Innocents 38. Carnival of Souls 39. Night of the Living Dead 40. Valerie and Her Week of Wonders 41. Sisters 42. Things to Come 43. War of the Worlds 44. Robinson Crusoe on Mars 45. The Brood 46. Scanners 47. Fantastic Planet lol, that must be the most low-brow Criterion list ever. No fancy-shmancy French New Wave for this guy! Also, I recently sold my Eisenstein box set for some sweet coin. I can now stream it in higher-than-DVD quality so I figured I'd cash in now while it's still out of print. |

Re: Post All the Criterion Films You Own
I own maybe 20. I watched 3 Tarkovsky's a few months ago. The others have been collecting dust on my self still in the plastic wrap.

I'm insanely jealous. That is a fantastic collection. Over here in the UK there are rarely any sales on the Criterion collection and when they do, it's all the cheaper ones. I've only got a few and haven't even watched all the ones I own:
Yi Yi The Last Temptation of Christ Solaris Oharu L'Avventura I only buy Blu Rays though not DVDs. Is that Night of the Hunter that you own the Blu or DVD? The Blu is incredibly expensive, and one that I would love to own. Of the ones you own, I've seen all of them except for The Last Temptation of Christ and I love those three. You're in for a treat! |
Here you go:
Ballad of a Soldier Berlin Alexanderplatz Brazil Fanny & Alexander Insomnia La Haine Le Belle et la Bete Le Jetee/San Soleil Le Samourai Paris Texas Playtime Ran Rashomon Rififi Seven Samurai Slacker Solaris The Hidden Fortress The Last Emperor The Third Man The Tin Drum Three Colors Trilogy Videodrome I've watched them all except for Berlin Alexanderplatz, which will probably remain the white elephant of my collection for a long time. My favorite Criterion is one I don't own anymore: Silence of the Lambs. It has commentary tracks by Anthony Hopkins and a consulting FBI agent as well as disturbing yet interesting essays from actual serial killers. I foolishly got rid of it because it didn't look good on widescreen TVs. I'm sure it's worth a fortune now. |
