TV Movie,1970's,Thriller,New York? Thug called The King! Crime
 

I remember watching this really good film around 1980,I think it was a 70's TV Movie.
Basically the plot was this dodgy estate in America,probably Harlem/New York or somewhere and there was a black criminal who ruled the estate in fear and called himself 'The King'.
He was terrorising the older residents of the estate and one old lady killed herself by slitting her wrists in the bath.
This old man who was also being terrorised made some big metal things that fitted around his wrists so when 'The King' finally attacked him the old man got him in a bear hug and he had fitted a device on the metal 'cufflicks' so they could clip together and he would have 'The King' in a vice like grip unable to escape!
Does anyone remember it?
I would love to watch it again!

There's a 1977 movie about abusive NY City landlords called 'Death Promise'. There doesn't seem to be any character named 'King', but there's an actor in it with the name 'Kang'.

Another possibility is 'Black Caesar' (1973). I can't find a clip that shows how the film ends, so it's difficult to confirm if there's a deadly 'cuff-link' device used against the villain.

Thanks for the answers! Both seem similar but arent the film in question.'Death Promise' has the exact feel of the film I remember!

@lordcat I've got exactly the movie your'e looking for. I remember like it was yesterday. It's called Siege (1978) and was a made-for-TV movie, but really edgy and tense for television. The moment you mentioned the "cuffs" I remembered it. YouTube has the short trailer and say it was released in 1980 but IMDB says 1978. Either way, here's the trailer:

Watching something like this at the age of 9 certainly makes it's mark on you! I may of seen it in 1980 actually as remember the class I was in in 1980/81 and discussing it with a school friend who had also seen it a few nights before.
