Fuze 'Views

Gonna take a crack at some amateur reviews. Hope you guys enjoy, and any recommendations of films you would like me to see or review, please feel free to. Also, any help towards a better review, such as spellchecking, better grammar, or just a less boring means of review, I am more than grateful for any guidance. Wish me luck!

A Fistful of Dollars (Leone, 1964)

This was my first viewing of this film, and am currently watching the other two. These movies were highly recommended, of course. Having not entirely delved into the western genre, I thought The Man With No Name trilogy would be a good a place as any to start. I knew from within the first ten minutes I had something special on my hands. Clint Eastwood is a cool cat. Within minutes, his coffin scene had me smiling and shaking my head at his calm demeanor, as if he knew nothing could harm him.

I would like to give this one another shot, because, at times, the middle and lead up bored me, and, if it wasn't for the beauty of the film and the atmosphere and tension towards a clear cut awesome ending, I almost lost interest, but only for a span of maybe 15 minutes, then it was back to some great action, spectacular dialogue, and a blazing ending (literally!).

For me, this was a pleasant experience and lived up to the hype, and, from what I hear, the movies only get better from here.

I'm watching the trilogy on TCM now. I've seen them all several times. Have fun. Oh yeah I give the first one

For A Few Dollars More (Leone, 1965)

Now that I had a feeling of what to expect, I would need a lot to be impressed as much as the first film. Frankly, although a pretty good film, this one is not as good as the first I saw, as it was splitting leads, and I wanted pure Eastwood.

Do not get me wrong, I enjoyed this movie. The acting was decent on the three main characters parts, but it seemed everyone else was just sloshed into the mix, almost in a manikin fashion, waiting to inevitably get shot or stabbed in the back. I enjoyed the first for it's action and grittiness, but there was no real surprise of what was in store for me, besides maybe the robbery itself. THAT was a pretty tense scene, and had me on the edge of my seat. The movie is in no way, shape, or form bad, just did not excite me as much as it's predecessor. I am really excited for what many people say is the best of this trilogy, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Besides a few memorable scenes and a well-made ending scene of (spoiler) the bodys being carried away in a carriage, which I thought was pretty brilliant, I think this film was disappointing, but mainly because my hopes were sky high after my first introduction to the character. Can't wait for the last movie!

I also preffered A Fistful of Dollars to For A Few Dollars More but TGTBATU is my favourite of the trilogy.

American TCM sounds great, UK one mainly shows loads of low budget lesser known Westerns and the TV show Gunsmoke :D Although Sky Movies does have The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on every now and again :) Although I do love TCM for being more diverse and showing lesser known films, probably is I spend all my time seeking out the 'good films' that I have no time to watch them all :D

I love all three films, think I would agree that the second is slightly weaker than the first, even though technically I think Leone makes the right steps, the story isn't as strong for me and seems to jump a few different places before finally settling down, I need to watch it again.

Anyway my ratings now:

Fistful of Dollars
+
For a Few Dollars More

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (Thurber, 2004)

It has been a couple of years since I have seen this, and I popped it in today, so figured I would give it a quick review.

I remember this being a hilarious movie, but I am sad to say it has not aged well for me. Still, I laughed where I was meant to laugh, cheered for the Average Joe's team, and was truly impressed with Ben Stiller's second go at a crazed fitness junkie, after one of my favorite movies of my childhood, Heavyweights. Vince Vaughn was.....well.....himself. I could not believe how I missed how it seemed he did not even want to be involved in this movie at times, just seemed to be going with the motions and nothing about him impressed me this go-around, and I am usually a pretty big fan of his. I still love his rebuttals to anything Stiller says, but, that being said, I was pretty much doing my own Vince Vaughn impression and just going through the motions.

http://cambridge.tab.co.uk/wp-conten.../dodgeball.jpg

In closing, I think this movie should be called Ben Stiller and Friends Play Dodgeball, because it seems he was the only one who was fully into being in this movie to me. Also, the very last line of the movie is one of the funniest things I have possibly heard, so there's that. Nowhere near my inital rating years back, which was probably around
.

Observe and Report (Hill, 2009)

Not sure how I feel about Rogen. Many times he is hit or miss, a miss being Green Hornet, and a hit, in my opinion, is Observe and Report.

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/...bserve-600.jpg

I can honestly say this is my favorite character Rogen has played. This is true comedy, great cameos from Danny McBride and Aziz Ansari, a decent outing from the lovely Anna Farris, and a somewhat stale Ray Liotta. Nothing beats Michael Pena's portrayal of his best friend, Dennis, though. He is hilarious!

Patton Oswalt is also quite funny as the rude boss. Decent comedy, nothing special, but you can do a lot worse, especially from Rogen, in my opinion. Fantastic mall fight, also! That was awesome.

Re: Fuze 'Views

I am sure everyone wonders how I can give this and For a Few Dollars More the same rating.....I truly did enjoy both films about the same, to be honest. I am going to give it another go around soon, though. Maybe the amount of hype I had for it ruined it for me in a sense.

Re: Fuze 'Views

If all goes according to plan, today I will be watching one of these three films, if not two of them.

Dredd (Travis, 2012)
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (Leone, 1966)
Se7en (1995, Fincher)

Don't think I can get all three in, but these are at the top of my watch list. Any recommendations?

TokeZa 04-16-13 08:34 AM

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly for sure!!

Se7en is a decent film while Dredd is pretty bad.

Re: Fuze 'Views

Dredd was pretty good, and Se7en was very good. TGTBATU is a classic.

Re: Fuze 'Views

I have heard that Dredd was actually pretty bad ass. I will probably try to get them all in.

Sin City (Rodriguez, 2005)

Been a few years since I last saw this, so popped it in after finding it for $2.49 at Hastings, a deal I cannot pass up on almost any film, let alone something like this.

http://images5.fanpop.com/image/phot...-1600-1200.jpg

First of all, what a cast. Great performance from everyone, especially Owen, Willis, and Rourke. Love all the smaller roles, also, such as Hartnett and the late Brittany Murphey and Michael Clarke Duncan, who turn in decent performances. If there was a weak spot, I would say it was Alba. Never been much of a fan of doing anything but looking at her, which I can say I never tire from. Still, she is better than Megan Fox!

http://wallpoper.com/images/00/35/33...y_00353386.jpg

My favorite segment of this film was Marv. He seemed to be the most developed character in this movie, and you generally feel sorry for him, even when he is brutally tearing apart people and torturing for fun. He truly wanted to avenge his friend, and you could tell. Willis and Owen also turn in great performances in their roles, but this is where I think the movie shines.

There was a time near the end where it felt like it dragged a little, and a few unnecessary parts, such as Madsen, who I generally love, and a few others you can probably spot, but it kept me pretty well entertained for the most part.

I was happy I found this deal, and also glad to revisit a solid movie, and can say I am truly excited for the next film, and hope it is as stylish as this fun ride.

The Watch (Schaffer, 2012)

I was impressed with the cast that I saw on this movie, so I decided to check it out last night, so here is a quick review!

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/...ticleLarge.jpg

From the get go, I knew I was in for a decent amount of laughs. Stiller and Vaughn have always had good chemistry together, and I have been really impressed with Hill lately. Haven't seen much of anything from Ayoade, but he was pretty funny in a quirky kind of way.

Story wise, the plot is weak, and to be honest, these type of movies do not need complex plots and twists to be great for me, so I saw that coming from the DVD cover. Turned my brain off and popped some corn! Glad I did, too, or else this review would definitely be bad, because every turn was predictable, no matter how funny it was to get there, and the end twist was clear for within 30 minutes of the movie, but other than that, I cannot complain about the numerous laughs this film gave me.

http://parklabreanewsbeverlypress.co...-TheWatch2.gif

The chemistry of these four actors is what really gets the ball moving for me. Everyone interacts with everyone, and that is the way it should be in these ensemble cast comedies! To be fair, this will probably be forgotten soon, which is why I am glad I found such a good deal on the DVD, so I can revisit it with a few friends sometime, because it was a solid comedy.

http://thecrat.com/wp-content/upload...he-Watch-1.jpg

This is worth a rent in my opinion, or even a buy if you find it for a good price. I am glad to add it to my DVD collection, and will be watching it again for years to come!

Klown (Norgaard, 2010)

I had a couple of hours to kill today, so I checked this out on Netflix mobile because I had heard mixed reviews, so here is a quick write-up of my thoughts of this wierd ride!

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/...ticleLarge.jpg

From the first 20 minutes of the film, the initial story set up, I knew this was going to be a simply hilarious film, but was nowhere near prepared for the levels of awkwardness and sexual extremities I was in store for. They really did not hold anything back in this Danish comedy, and I truly grasped onto it as if I was in the canoe with these fellows on the "tour". The story is simple enough to understand, no need to have your thinking caps on for this one, although I did catch some simple messages of courage and true loss and gain from past experiences of my own, such as (spoiler) when his pregnant girlfriend leaves Frank, there is no over-acting or outburst, just instant acceptance of the situation, which I actually felt was quite authentic, seeing as to how I have been in similar situations, and I tend to really hate break-up scenes in movies.....they are just naturally unsettling and awkwardly unreal to the point that I have to turn it off or just lose all interest in the film, and I was truly impressed with the human approach to that situation.

http://cf.drafthouse.com/_uploads/ga...84/klown-2.jpg

I cannot stress enough how fantastically hilarious this movie was for me. I went in without knowing much of anything about it, which is the best way to go into it I would think, and came out really impressed with this original and somewhat saddening story at times, if you really pay attention to the ways peer pressure, drugs, and just overall willingness to please the people around you, which can sometimes backfire.

I highly recommend this solid comedy and will be looking forward to the U.S. remake I have been hearing whispers about. Give it a shot, I will warn you it gets visual at times, but if you do not mind a little dirt on your collar, this is a breath of fresh air into a increasingly stale genre of comedy, in my opinion, of course.
