Most "Dramatic Death Scene" in a movie
I was just wondering what you guys though. I enjoy watching a nicely done "dramatic, death scene" once in a while. It gives me alot of sympathy for the character that dies.....
I believe Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring because near the end, Boromir dies, by getting shot by the arrows of the Uruk-Hai. Peter Jackson captivated that moment so well when Boromir(portrayed by Sean Bean) falls to the ground with a blank face. It is very dramatic, because even though he got shot, he still stood up and fought a bunch more Uruk-Hai.....until the third shot...and then he fell gracefully to the ground. It just gives me so much enjoyment when Aragorn finally kills the Uruk-Hai captain who killed Boromir. Anyway, what do you guys think?? What i mean is that....what character in a movie that dies made you actually feel "SORRY" for him....and felt his pain.? |
Yeah that was a pretty touching death scene.
I personaly don't like characters dieing unless it's really needed, but if it's benificial for the story i'll accept it. |
i liked tony montana's death in scarface. i didnt really feel bad for him but it was a really good scene.
also i really felt bad for Ricky in Boys N the hood. he didnt deserve to die. |
Boromir's death was the first one I thought of when I read the title of the thread.
Here's another one the ranks up there at the top: http://victoryatseaonline.com/war/vi...es/platoon.gif |
Roy in Blade Runner.
William Wallace in Braveheart! Butch and Sundance. Rocky in Angels with Dirty Faces. |
Humor me.
Remember that crap movie that came out, I think it was called Matrix something? Anyways, that one lady fan of Neo's, with the leather pants..., sorry, she died in one of the movies, that was until that dork with the trenchcoat fondled her heart or somethin weak like that. People started laughing in the theaters when he did that. That's the most dramatic death scene, in my opinion.
|
Braveheart
William Wallace dunno if it counts since he was tortured... |
Elias in Platoon
|
Hooch in Turner & Hooch. That poor piece of Vietnamese steak.
|
Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi
William Wallace in Braveheart Boromir in Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring but I think the one that tops them all is. . . Jesus in the Passion of the Christ. |
Roy Batty in Bladerunner was a king scene, eh uconjack?
Must say - 1) The Terminator's demise in the original film. For all its' power and dexterity it is crushed between the two slabs of, ironically, a machine press. You can just see its' unbelieving eyes as it is flattened. To itself this is a seemingly impossible occurence. Reaching indefatiguably at its' target, how can I be defeated? The question disturbing its' logic processes til the last glow of its' little red eye.. [Notice the consoling score by Brad Fiedel also.] 2) The death of the captain-of-the-guard at the hands of Navarre in Ladyhawke. In a church, in the presence of a bishop and his order. Impaled on Navarre's father's sword. The way its' captured on film and the music and battle scene leading to it are perfect drama. 3) Dizzy in Starship Troopers was a good one too. All the desperation and even a kind of hope lying in Rico's arms one last time. Right in the presence of Rico's less than perfect 'former' girl no less. 4) The Captain's death in Das Boot, looking over all the men and the U-boat that survived all that drama and chaos, only to see them all snuffed out. The U-boat sinking is so effectively simple it puts Titanic to shame. 5) Last but not least: Alex Murphy in Robocop (the director's cut). That scene made me feel for the character more than any dying mother, father or son in any film I've ever seen. Maybe I just have another level of 'dramatic'. Twisted as it may seem. "You probably don't think I'm a very nice guy do you?" "Buddy, I think your slime." |

Nicholson struggles with Joyce to prevent him from pushing the plunger, as both Warden and Shears from their different vantage points shout out to Joyce: "Kill him!" Shears dives into the water from the other shore to reinforce the position. He swims across the water in an attempt to reach and kill Nicholson, and then detonate the bridge. Joyce is killed first by one of the shots (from Warden's own weapon!) - followed by a brief camera reaction shot of Joyce's lover - one of the Siamese porter-ladies on the hillside. Next, Shears is wounded in the leg by a shot from a Japanese guard, followed by another quick reaction shot of the face of his Siamese lover, and then a second fatal shot (again from Warden's gun). Mortars fired from Warden on the hillside kill more of the Japanese guards.
Nicholson finally realizes he is blocking his own Allied side's operation to blow up the bridge. He gasps: What have I done? At the exact moment when the train is passing over the bridge, he is hit by shrapnel from the mortars. Nicholson staggers around semi-consciously, and falls mortally wounded on the dynamite plunger. He blows up his beloved bridge and sends the trainload of Japanese soldiers into the river. The pleasing-to-look-at bridge crumbles and collapses. [The motives behind the detonation of the bridge are unclear and ambiguous in the film's dramatic ending. His fall onto the detonator - was it accidental or intentional?] Always the cold and calculating soldier, Warden turns toward the only survivors of the commando raid, the women-bearers. He feels guilty and begs their forgiveness for using mortars - and for using his own rifle to kill two of the commandos (Joyce and Shears), his men: I had to do it. I had to do it. They might have been captured alive. It was the only thing to do. Exerpt taken from The Greatest Films The Bridge On The River Kwai |

William Wallace in Braveheart definitely (i kno its been said about a hundred times but i think i have to say it out of respect for the movie)
Also Frank in Donnie Darko because it really clears up most of the movie. I also think Johnny Depp's ex in Secret Window, because not only is see cryin hysterically but i kinda wanted Johnny to kill her (that whore). |
i wanted her boyfriend to die in secret window. i couldnt stand him.
|
Gandalf's "death", i thought it was pretty dramatic
Definately Roy Batty in Bladerunner Not the same kind of dramatic but romeo and juliet, baz luhrman stylee Haldir's death in LOTR: TTT Roman's death scene in Scream 3 |
"Haldir's death"??!?!?!?!! Oh, my Gollum. I hate that part. But, I will give you the right to your own opinion.
Mine (I love good death scenes, morbid as that may sound): Boromir - LotR: TFotR (how touching. I love his dispair at the end. They'll be no one left now to lead his people and save his beloved city. Then when Aragorn says "I will not let the White City fall, nor our people fail." he has hope, and comes full circle to declare Aragorn his kin and his rightful King. Awesome stuff. Great acting.) Maximus - Gladiatior (my FAVE. I love this movie. The acting in his death scene is so good. The way he looks into another world, and that small smile that creeps up on his face when he sees his wife and son... good stuff.) Others I like (and that, I might mention, make me cry): Simon in Simon Birch (how very sad!) Esparanza in The Mask of Zorro (this one I like for her acting, and the directing) Mufasa in The Lion King (WHAT?!) Beau Geste in Beau Geste (1939 version) |
Oh yeh, completely forgot about Gollum!
total agreement on mufasa, wtf? |
|
^^^confusion, its the most famous, dramatic yeh but not the most
|
I would have to say Gus in Lonesome Dove when he gets gang green from the arrow and has Captain Call write that letter. That is a pretty dramatic scene.
|
The Lion King- Mufasa's Death.
Terminator 2- Miles Dyson huffing and puffing death. The Passion of the Christ. Braveheart. |

Borimir in LOTR Ginger in GINGER SNAPS Jack in TITANIC(I know its cheesy but when I first saw this it tore me up) Danny in PEARL HARBOR(Be in a room full of teenage girls and you cant help but cry) and the one I cry at each time: Bubba in FORREST GUMP Aww, the line"Hey Bubba" "Hey Forrest" awwwwww here comes the tears...*sobbing* |

I don't really like Jack's death in Titanic. I don't know, something about the predictability of it... I don't know. The one thing I liked the most about it was right after he tries to get on that slab of wood with Rose, and it starts to tip and he realizes that there isn't enough room on it for him, and he pulls this little look, like he knows he's going to die, and he accepts it.
Danny in Pearl Harbor? Well... very dramatic and all, but... I don't know, the whole movie is pretty cheesey, when I think about it. Too much like some kind of soap opera, only they killed the wrong guy- I knew one of them had to die, why couldn't it have been Rafe?? I think the most dramatic death scene in that whole movie is when they can't cut the hull of that destroyer fast enough, and those guys drown because of an inch of metal. Now that's heartbreaking. Ooo, Braveheart. Kind of forgot about that one. Speaking of martyrs, who liked Joan of Arc's death scene? I think that was pretty well done, in terms of Lili Sob-whatever-her-name-is's acting. |
it was leelee sobleiski
|
Kenny, on that one episode of South Park,, It was so tragic with the rats and all. Breaks me up.

LOTR-Boromir's death
Kill Bill- Bill's death Star Wars- Darth Vader |

Most dramatic death was Fred Durt's career when he sang with Christina Aguilera.
|
I would have to say that as far as dramatic deaths in movies are concerned the most disturbing and horribly dramatic death takes place during the movie Amercian History X. In the final scene, Danny the young neo-nazi (recently reformed by his older brother Derick) is gunned down in the school bathroom just before turning in his paper on the negative aspects of hate.
Thanks By. Gibbyg |
That makes me think of the kid on Pay it Forward. Forgot his name. That one was kind of sad.
|
im suprised no one mentioned Big Fish. when i saw this and the end came about, it was the first time in years that i actually came close to crying. its not even that sad, its just that we became so attached to Edward Bloom throughout the movie that we hate to see his life end. i think it was very dramatic.

King Kong
Cody Jarrett in White Heat. Opening the box at the end of Kiss Me Deadly. Messala's death scene in Ben-Hur. Major Kong in Dr. Strangelove. The Book Lady's death in Fahrenheit 451. Bonnie And Clyde Sonny at the toll booth in The Godfather. Captain Quint in Jaws. The shark in Jaws. Nicky's Russian roulette scene in The Deer Hunter. Zhora running through the plate glass in Blade Runner. Pris's spastic death in Blade Runner. Leo with the machine gun in Miller's Crossing. |
dramatic death
Well I personally wouldn't consider a "dramatic" death with one that is just asking for sympathy, I would consider it as a death of a character using extreme methods. In this case I think you can't go wrong with either The Creeper in jeepers Creepers 2, or the main woman in Stephen King's "Misery"; neither of whom seemed to want to die, no matter how much you punished them!

Too true...too true....even though it's not in the spirit of the thread |
Yeah I agree about Big Fish, Edward's death is pretty dramatic. I also think when Maximus (Gladiator) dies, that's pretty heartbreaking for the audience because of the melancholic music and the cool effects it really tugs at the heart. Of course the Passion of the Christ was very dramatic as well.
I think the most dramatic for me would have to be when the 1st Terminator sinks into the lava and gives...sniff...the thumbs up.....it's too emotional to talk about....:bawling:. That last one was just silly but the others I though were very dramatic. =) |
Chow Yun-Fat's death in The Killer was very sad and dramtic :bawling:
Also his death in crouching tiger hidden dragon, and when Ziyi Zhang jumps to her death. Sean connerys death in the untouchables. And that ewok that gets shot by an at-st :( |
I don't know about most dramatic, but the least dramatic would defo have to be Bill in Kill Bill 2. What was up with that? I get the whole theory behind it, but i still though it sucked. :(

1- In America - when Mateo is dying in the hospital
2- My Life - when Michael Keaton is gasping for his last breath 3- The Butterfly Effect - Director's cut ending on DVD when the baby chokes itself 4- House of Sand and Fog - when the Iranian couple commit suicide 5- The Notebook - When the old couple lie in the bed and die in their sleep together 6- Charlotte's Web - When the spider Charlotte sings while dying 7- The Land Before Time - When littefoot's mom is killed by the TRex 8- Braveheart - Mel Gibson gettin his head chopped off 9- Passion of the Christ - Jesus dying 10- Life as a house - Kevin Kline dies while the wife plays a video for him |
Thin Red Line - There's a bombing of a grassy area and it cuts to this baby bird that is all broken and trying to walk away. It doesn't show it die but it would. That is fierce.
|
i thought it was pretty dramatic when leon was shot and then blew him and gary oldman up at the end of leon
|
One of my favorite Death Scenes is the scene in True Romance where Christian's character shoots Gary Oldman in the junk, i'm pretty sure he died from that.
Certainly the most dramatic and shocking scene wasn't a death scene, but the 15 minute torture scene in Gibson's Passion. |
Has anyone said Will Ferrell in Austin Powers yet?
|
I almost forgot about the little Princess in Anna and the King. That one is a tear-jerker if there ever was one. Also, Tuptim's death scene was really beautiful. I like the look on her face right before she gets her head chopped off- very peaceful, almost happy.

Adding to the thread -T-800 giving the thumbs up while melting himself in the lava was pretty sad. -Anthony Hopkins leaving peacefully in "Meet Joe Black" -I mos def agree with Boromir's death |
I think it was Gretchin's death in Donnie Darko, because i really was upset because that whole scene swung me rite into emotional tumoil. first she was jumped by those the losers with the knives, and then some random ran over her while Donnie could do nothing, it just upset me a lot. Then frank came into play............
|
The best death sequence for me was Hudson (Bill Paxton) in Aliens. "Game over, man. Game over"
|
The death of maximus in the gladiator was very dramatic in a sense of accomplishment that he recieved his vengence and was reunited with his family. Based on historical fact
|
I agree with Zombie Lover about Gretchen in Donnie Darko. I was suprised. A couple of other ones for me:
Jean Grey in X2 Satine in Moulin Rouge Jet Li's character in Hero Passion of the Christ |

John Travoltas death in "the Punisher" It was so idioticly drawn out that it made baby jesus cry.

Spoiler............ Spoiler............. JESUS!!!!!!!! |
Yep
I don't know about dramatic but the Best death scene IMO is Doc Holiday's from "Tombstone" That was pure greatness.
"I was in love once. My youngest cousin. She was so..and we were so..." "That's good. That's good, Doc. What happened?" "She joined a convent over the AFFAIR. She was all I ever wanted.......... what did you want?" " A normal life, I guess" " Oh come on now. There's no normal life Wyett. There's just life. Now get on with it..." |
Where the nerdy bad guy dies in "Hard Rain". The part of his eyes getting blown out is gross, but its great how the glasses frames falls underwater and lands on the gravestone. That was rather dramatic.

Roy Batty Yep! Also the most poetic death in movie history.
Also Mel Gibson at the end of Braveheart FREEDOMMMMMMMMMM!!!! I'm sure to catch hell for this one but...John Vioght in The Champ. Yoda in "Jedi" The Vampires in Near Dark, another highly poetic bunch of scenes. Mufasa in The Lion King |
I loved the way Doc Holliday died in Tombstone. And I really liked the way the West Indian woman died in Meet Joe Black, with Death right there next to her.
