Best Final Scene?

What is your favorite final scene in a movie? (endings that really fit with the movie)

Mine : tie

Casablanca - 'Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.'

Some Like it Hot - 'Well, nobody's perfect.'

Fall-from-Grace 07-06-04 01:58 PM

I liked Donnie Darko's ending sequence with Mad World played, very sad.

And the end of Cold Mountian, because it made me cry like a weepy little girl every time I see it.

moonchild 07-06-04 02:13 PM

Hmm.. the movie ending that gives me the best feeling is Amelie
And I hope no one slaps me for this but that final scene of the Little Mermaid - When Ariel is saying bye to her dad? *SOBS* :bawling:

Jam 07-06-04 03:11 PM

Black hawk down, the film is absolutely amazing, but the ending... is just great!
i never cried in a film, but this ending brought a tear to my eye........ has any1 else seen it?

VampireJesus 07-06-04 08:49 PM

The end of Monty Python and the Holy Grail when the policeman hit the camera and it just stopped. The first time I watched it I wasn't sure if the movie was over. I also liked the end of Edward Scissorhands with the ice sculptures.

Movie_Freak768 07-06-04 08:54 PM

For me a good film ending was in the film Ravenous I thought that was a good ending. Also another film that I loved the ending to was Sling Blade.

Eyes 07-07-04 01:36 PM

gonna have to go with a tie as well,

The Jackal

and Alien 3

Sedai 07-07-04 05:16 PM

It's not quite final but close enough:

Blade Runner : Batty's Soliloquy

James_Sparrow 07-07-04 05:19 PM

I thought the ending/opening was good in Memento. I dont know if it would really count as a ending since it also happened in the begining but thats my choice.

Ash_Lee 07-07-04 05:40 PM

Return of the Jedi: Well, the bit where Luke burns Vader's corpse. I just think it's a great way to show the final bond between Luke and his father, and I suppose it's also significant as it shows the last of the Sith being wiped out (that's not counting the novels of course).

Mostly Harmless 07-07-04 05:58 PM

fight club: the pixies are playing, the buildings are falling, chaos is everywhere, and ed norton and helena bonham carter just stand in awe of its complete beauty.

Sleezy 07-07-04 06:24 PM

The ending of Unbreakable, which I consider starting with the Subway Station sequence, is absolutely brilliant.

susan 07-07-04 07:01 PM

some kind of wonderful
the sting
one crazy summer

Zeiken 07-07-04 08:17 PM

I loved Lost in Translation's ending. The fact that

WARNING: "Lost in translation" spoilers below
Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansen never got together, that they knew they had to return to their worlds, it added a lot to Coppola's recurring theme of the unconnected world. They did kiss, make that connection, and i love how we dont know what Bill Murray whispers into Johansen's ear at the very end. Beautiful filmmaking!

D'yer Mak'er 07-08-04 01:18 PM

fight club
the wizard of oz
Its a wonderful life

The Last of the Mohicans ... from the Huron Village until Hawkeye, Cora, and Chingachgook are alone on the cliff…

Fall-from-Grace 07-08-04 01:51 PM

I loved the abrupt ending of An American Werewolf in London.

Sedai 07-08-04 04:28 PM

Why do I always forget this one when this question comes up. I get all misty every time during this amazing scene (I think it's the music)...

myscreenwriter 07-08-04 06:21 PM

My favorite final scene is that of Kill Bill Volume 1 because If you liked it, it insured that you would watch Volume 2.

Crowchild85 07-15-04 01:23 PM

Dances with wolves

SamsoniteDelilah 07-16-04 03:58 PM

Agreed!! So refreshing to see, too, after the myriad of hollywood tales of ruined lives.

Also, the endings of:
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Big Fish (though it made me cry buckets)
Harold and Maude - when he's walking off, dancing :D :D :D

oh, and Dangerous Liasons. Nice to see the bad guys get theirs!

Tazz 07-16-04 04:17 PM

I Liked The Final Scene in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Sedai 07-16-04 04:35 PM

Need to add another here:

12 Monkeys

DEFTONE 07-16-04 05:15 PM

Best scene ever would have to be for me Reservoir Dogs, when i first saw that movie i never thought that at the end all of that would happened. ONe of my favorite movies of all time.

Shaolin 07-16-04 05:51 PM

12 monkeys indeed..

Aniko 07-16-04 08:15 PM

It's a Wonderful Life
Solas

To Live
The Way Home (2002)
Sense and Sensibility

~ (I liked the ending of the 2003 version, but the final scene in the original is more memorable.)

and so on...

OtherwiseOccupied 07-19-04 11:53 AM

I liked the hook of Kill Bill vol.1... definitely leaves you wanting more

Caitlyn 07-19-04 05:02 PM

My fav endings come from a few eps of WB's Batman: The Animated Series.

Tyger Tyger: Batman utters a poem for a creature of an experiment gone wrong
I Am The Night: Bruce finds the reason for his battle at his parents' grave
Heart Of Ice: Victor Fries speaks sorrowfully to the memory of his wife about his curse

Bittersweet... the way I like it. :P

Freddy Vs. Jason- Jason gets outta da water wid Freddys head and u think Freddys dead but den he winks at u! DAT WAS DA ****IN ****!!!

Aniko 08-02-04 05:19 PM

Thanks susan. :)

I wanted to add the very final scene in Bowfinger.
Making an action film in Tawain the Nerdy Eddie Murphy is fighting off ninja's then gets help from Steve Martin. Very funny.

Stellar Legs 08-02-04 05:26 PM

Clint Eastwood's speach at the end of Unforgiven was pretty surreal. I also like the ending of The Princess Bride where Cary Elwes character scares Prince Humperdink with his threat, and then they jump on the horses and drive away. Instant tear-jerker dude.

As for recent endings, The Village was pretty good. It was a classic Shymalan ending. I also love Reservoir Dogs ending (of course). The msuic during the credits really add to the atmosphere of a place that's been completely wiped out.

That never happened in the movie H2o. You're probably thinking of the explaination given to make amends with why michael was still alive in the movie Halloween Resurrection considering that he was supposed to have lost his head.

Escape 08-02-04 08:32 PM

The ending in seven gave the perfect completion to the work of john doe's 2 last remaining deadly sins. ;)

Insanity Rulez 08-02-04 09:57 PM

Forest Gump comes to mind and the very very very very very last scene of ROTK when they sail off the the grey havens.Perfect ending to a really great book and movie.

StarSailor 08-04-04 04:57 PM

The very, very, very, very last scene of RotK is Sam coming home to his wife and kids and telling her that he's back (in complience with the book). The sailing to the Grey Havens is the scene before the very, very, very, very last scene.

Great ending?

The Usual Suspects - made me watch it again, immediately.

Cheers

SamsoniteDelilah 08-04-04 06:21 PM

A couple of tragic/excellent endings:
Thelma and Louise and
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

I agree. The ending came from the left field and totally blew my mind. I stopped the DVD and played it again from the beginning making sure I paid more attention to the suttle hints all throughout the movie

StarSailor 08-06-04 07:06 PM

Yep.

Most of the time you can see a twist like that coming, especially when it concerns a 'hidden/secret identity". But this!

SLAM!

In your face. Brilliant!

Cheers

Reservoir dogs
Soylent green
A clockwork orange

D'yer Mak'er 08-07-04 03:24 AM

thats it! i finally found it. my favourite final scene ever.
i'm still laughing from it.
The last scene to A Ma Soeur! is so typically French i had to laugh at the irony, in a very disturbing and uncomfortable way.

The ending to this movie summarises my thoughts on all of the French arthouse films released in the past few years that have been stunning and shocking us western crowds.
I love it how twisted this 'happy ending' is, if you can call it that.... probably not. meh, lets just call it.. 'the french happy ending'.
Anyway, through out the movie the fat sister frequently comments that she'd like to lose her virginity to a stranger rather than a person she's in love with. And her older much more attractive sister curses her mother for how she is treating her and wishes she could just die, along with her mother and sister. Then, the fat sister comments she doesnt want to die yet.
And soon in the ending scene the three women are sleeping in their parked car at night until a burglar comes along and kills the mother and older sister, before raping the fat younger sister and leaving her alive in the woods.
I guess things just have a funny way of working out :D

btw, i would have just ruined the ending for a lot of the people out there who haven't seen the movie, presumably a lot. But it doesnt matter that much, the ending comes so abruptly and out of nowhere that you can still enjoy the movie for its disturbing portrayal of adolescence and the supreme poon master Italian guy in the movie. ;) (hell, he could even charm the pants off me.)

zBLARz 08-07-04 09:01 AM

Kill Bill Volume 1 (Made me wanna watch the second.)
Halloween (The original.)
Freddy vs. Jason. (Not bad.)
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (SO much evil left.)
