Favourite TV shows of all-time

Well I searched for this topic and couldn't find it. I'm sure it's here somewhere, but oh well.

My top 10 favourites:

1. The Simpsons
2. Breaking Bad
3. Friends
4. The Sopranos
5. Grey's Anatomy
6. Lost
7. Once Upon a Time
8. The Wire
9. American Horror Story
10. Smallville

Raven73 06-24-23 09:04 PM

Oh, in case you were wondering why Star Trek is not there, even though my current signature image is from said series and I did put in there the Orville, which obviously is inspired by Star Trek, well, I actually am not a fan of the TV shows! I loved The Wrath of Khan (which that aforementioned picture of the Enterprise warping is from) and I liked Voyage Home, but other than that, I watched most of Next Generation (mostly because, for me there was nothing on at that time other than a few shows like Seinfeld and pro wrestling), and Voyager, but I have little interest in rewatching them.

Citizen Rules 06-26-23 11:45 AM

Looking through your guys' list gives me some great ideas for my next TV series binge watch, thanks for mentioning them!

I'm adding these shows to my TV watch list:
All in the Family....a classic!
The Orville...really liked the first couple seasons, need to catch the latest shows.
Match Game...original with Gene Rayburn, use to love this as a kid.
Simpsons...use to watch this years ago, like to check it out again.
Lost in Space (1965)...So silly that it's a blast!
Friends...I use to catch this in reruns but I never seen the entire series, gotta remedy that.
The Addams Family...
The Munsters...
Hogan's Heroes...
I Dream of Jeannie...

I forgot to add these to my all time favorite list:
The Beverly Hillbillies.
Batman (1966-1968)
Babylon 5
Happy Days ...there was 10 seasons of this, not easy to find but I watched every show a couple years back, then I watched ever episode of Johnnie Loves Chachi...not as bad as one might think.

I do! Gosh that's exactly what we watched when I was a kid, except my dad must have turned the channel as I never seen The Carol Burnett Show...I wonder what other show was on opposite of it?

"Griff" & "Owen Marshell: Attorney At Law"was Carol's competition. Do not recall either one.

Fun Idea for thread.

Some from when I was a child:
Bewitched
I Dream of Jeanie
Gidget
The Patty Duke Show
Mr. Roger's Neighborhood
Hazel (She looked like my grandmother to me. which my grandmother hated when I told her.)
The Carol Burnett Show

Some from when I was a teenager
The Prisoner
Star Trek TOS
Monty Python's Flying Circus

As an adult:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The Wire
Sex and the City
The Sopranos

As an old lady:
Below Deck (in all its iterations)
Vanderpump Rules
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
The Real Housewives of New York
The Real Housewives of New Jersey

Right now:
Any true crime. My favorite so far was HIgh: Confession of an Ibiza Drug Mule. It is a wild story of this likable young Irish woman who ends up in a Peruvian jail due to dating the wrong guy in Ibiza.

Re: Favourite TV shows of all-time

I have come to the conclusion that it is impossible for me to rank, and at various times in my life I have really enjoyed shows that I perhaps don't or wouldn't enjoy now. So, this is a list of shows that have made and impact on me and that I have enjoyed a ton through the years. Some of these shows fell off as they moved along, while others got better. Some of these, I may not really like or enjoy at all anymore, but was perhaps a huge fan in the past etc.

In no particular order at all:

Lost
Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
The Americans
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
The Expanse
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
The Rockford Files
Star Trek: TNG
Star Trek: Voyager
Star Trek: TOS
NCIS
The X-Files
Twin Peaks
Firefly
The Wire
Ozark
Orphan Black
Veronica Mars
The Wonder Years
Mr. Rogers Neighborhood
Bosch
Columbo
The Leftovers
Mad Men
The Sporanos

Alfred Hitchcock Presents is my #1 tv show, along with the Hour

I found Breaking Bad very riveting, and best animated series has to be BoJack Horseman.

WrinkledMind 07-02-23 01:44 PM

1) Twin Peaks
2) Seinfeld
3) Pushing Daisies
4) Wonderfalls
5) Breaking Bad
6) Firefly
7) The Wire
8) The Haunting of Hill House
9) The Wonder Years
10) Blackadder

Of the reality/game shows
1) Crystal Maze
2) Eight of Ten Cats Does Countdown
3) Survivor
4) Would I Lie to You
5) The Amazing Race

I'm not sure exactly what my list would look like, but Firefly, Hill House, and Wonderfalls would likely be the top three.

My top 10 favorite English language TV shows of all time are:

Babylon 5
Star Trek: Next Generation
Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
Battlestar Galactica
Rome
I, Claudius
Seinfeld
Band of Brothers
Bojack Horseman

If I do a top 20 TV shows including non-English language shows, then, it would be mostly anime shows, but I would include Babylon 5, Rome, Breaking Bad and I Claudius in there.

Cowboy Bebop is an interesting case of a Japanese show that is much more popular in America than in Japan. I personally consider it a very good anime show, but I can think of dozens of others that I would rank above it.

My Top 3 are more or less set in stone...

1. The Shield
2. The Wire
3. Breaking Bad

After that, it's a bit more shaky, but these are the ones that would be around my list.

* Boardwalk Empire
* The Americans
* Hannibal
* Justified
* Freaks and Geeks
* Bates Motel
* Firefly
* Manhattan
* Fortitude
* Catastrophe

Some that I feel like mentioning just because they were so amazing for a good stretch, even if they didn't stick the landing...

* Game of Thrones (S1 to S4)
* Lost (S1 to S3)
* The Simpsons (S1 to S5)

John, have you searched the Internet Archive? It's free.
https://archive.org/details/movies?tab=collection
You can use the Search box, or scroll through the various tabs.

I use it to watch old Harry O series from the mid 1970s.

This is the British version of All In The Family. Or, rather, All In The Family is the US version of this. But Till Death... is a lot 'harder' or 'unvarnished' as I understand it. I've seen a couple of episodes of AITF and it's not close, but it could just be the few episodes I've seen.

I don't watch much TV, but these are some that I really enjoyed and stuck with, though some had some awful later seasons. The first one is my absolute favorite, the rest are loosely ordered.

Blackadder (especially the second series)
Roseanne (the original series, I don't watch The Conners)
Dexter
Daria
Night Court (the original)
Queer As Folk (U.S.)
Dr. Jeff, Rocky Mountain Vet (really interesting series on Animal Planet)
Mighty Mike
Game of Thrones
Jack of All Trades

I don't know where you are located, but Game Show Network in the US still plays them---in order---on TV. But Richard Dawson, haha---definitely can't have people like that on TV anymore. haha

Yes it is, unfortunately. In addition to some new game shows that are actually pretty decent---who knew that Leah Remini could be a funny TV host?---they play a bund of old/classic stuff in off hours.

Darn, how did I miss The Simpsons? I'm still working through it currently, but I will also add Twin Peaks to my list.

Mr Inbetween - This Australian sleeper doesn't get enough (if any) love. It's probably my favorite show of the new millennium. It didn't overstay it's welcome like so many other shows and left on it's own terms after 3 seasons.

I wonder if it's available here in the USA

All 3 seasons are on Hulu.

Peyton Place as in the 1960s soap opera? Where did you watch that at? I would think it would be hard to find.

It's all on you-know-where (I'd rather not mention the name because evil algorithm follows us everywhere and then it goes back to the website and then they might consider removing the videos. We have to enjoy these things secretly and undergroundly).

Peyton Place is well written and has many terrific characters performed by great actors.
Also guest-starring Gena Rowlands as a glamorous femme fatale!

When Gena passed recently I went looking for her movies and did see she was on Peyton Place. I've seen the two movies about Peyton Place but not the tv show.

:up: I'm a big fan of ST Voyager, that and ST DSN are my two favorite ST series. Right now I'm rewatching for the 4th or 5th time, ST The Next Generation.

Galactic Traveler 08-28-24 10:45 PM

In random order:

- House
- Breaking Bad
- The Sopranos
- Cheers
- Miami Vice
- MASH

I Love Lucy (always #1)
Cheers
Star Trek and its other iterations
Breaking Bad
Miami Vice
Twilight Zone
The Outer Limits
Dick Van Dyke

Oddly none that are currently running. Like wine a good TV show needs some age and I generally like them better as later year re-runs.

I've never seen I Love Lucy or the Dick Van Dyke show, but I've been waiting to check those and some other 50s early 60s tv classics out.

The first two years of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis is superb and that the show became abit more formulaic. Do yourself a favor and check out a few of the early episodes especially the ones with Tuesday Weld and or Warren Beatty.

TONGO 08-29-24 01:27 PM

Ok this is just off the top of my head, when I was a kid these were shows I had to see and never miss.

Dallas
WCW World Championship Wrestling on Saturday nights out of Georgia (NWA)
WKRP in Cincinatti
Good Times
MTV when they had V.J.s' and only music videos
St. Elsewhere
Centennial
The Rifleman
The Big Valley
The Six Million Dollar Man
The Bionic Woman
Super Friends Saturday mornings, but I hated the Wonder Twins
Scooby-Doo
Warner Brothers cartoons
Electric Company to see Spider-Man, some potbellied guy in a spandex suit lol
Sesame Street
The Incredible Hulk
The Dukes of Hazzard

Citizen Rules 08-29-24 01:47 PM

Of Tongo's list I also watched this back in the day.

WKRP in Cincinatti...loved this show
Good Times...and this one too

MTV when they had V.J.s' and only music videos...We were GLUED to MTV back when it first started in the early 80s, lots of cool 'new wave' music that was much different than the stuff played by my local radio stations.

Centennial...one of the best mini series made.

The Bionic Woman
The Six Million Dollar Man
I watched both of these but preferred The Bionic Woman, easy on the eyes!

Super Friends Saturday mornings, but I hated the Wonder Twins Ha, there were tacked on weren't they.

Scooby-Doo... such a classic.

My favorite Saturday morning kid's show was Land of the Lost...and with the original dad, not the milquetoast uncle Jack.

I used to watch Land Of The Lost when it was on after school, but they had 2 other shows too, would do random viewing patterns. One of those I loathed, and I'd sit there hoping it was LOTL, and not see the intro to this one. When I saw this I audibly groaned everytime....
