Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

Awesome! I have been thinking about my nom for a while, and I think I’ve decided on something. The only reason I hesitated to nominate it is because I feel like I’m “hogging” all the great well-known films, while these hall of fames are for an introduction to new films for a lot of people. But the movie I’m nominating I really think deserves a spot; it came really close in a general hall of fame (you can probably guess it by now).

If I was to join I would've nominated that film too, that is if I've guessed what your nominating, and I could be wrong.

I was thinking K-On!

Quality s*** right there.

Siddon 07-09-19 03:41 AM

My nomination was my second choice for the Science Fiction field. I'm not sure if it's going to be a hit or not because it's really out there but I enjoyed it.

rauldc14 07-09-19 10:54 AM

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

We have 5 on day one and a nice mix of films too!

CosmicRunaway 07-09-19 02:57 PM

I still plan to join, but I'll be a week or two late starting since I'm away from the 17th to the 23rd.

There are a few films I'd like to watch before deciding on a nomination though. Unfortunately the one I wanted to see the most proved difficult to track down, so even if I do enjoy it, I'll definitely go with something more accessible. Two of the films I'm considering are currently available on Youtube, so it might be between those haha.

rauldc14 07-09-19 03:07 PM

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

I'm glad you are joining. I think this will be a nice fun mix here.

Which ALWAYS make them intriguing; for good or bad. And that's very much a good thing.

That's the situation I had with mine, I had a backup I do enjoy, but I TRULY wanted to nominate my first choice so after a long search I DID find it on a safe site and will be PMimg, everyone, a link for it when we start.

In that image, I count 8 movies that I dislike, 2 that I'm indifferent to, 1 that I can't decide whether I like or not despite multiple viewings, and 3 that I don't think I've seen.

Which ones, just curious.

The Lion King, which I haven't seen since I was a child, and Wall-E, which I originally wasn't a huge fan of, but I enjoyed it a lot more when I rewatched it for the previous Animation Hall of Fame.

That doesn't mean that I actively dislike the other films in the picture that I've seen; I just don't particularly care for them. I have been meaning to give Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle second chances, but I was mostly unimpressed with a lot of the Ghibli films I watched or rewatched for the Animation Tournament, so they haven't exactly been a high priority for me.

Love 4, Like 8, Don't Like 3, Haven't Seen 3 and don't recognize #9 or #18

And I was seriously considering Rango. And Kung Fu Panda was in the upper choices just for the fun of it. Which is ironic since I can't stand Jack Black in films but I do love the Panda trilogy. And I played around with the idea of 9.

I picked my nomination because it came from a studio not represented in that montage and it came from a decade with one of those nominations

Since it won a previous HoF, at least you don't have to worry about someone nominating it again.

Both of my room mates really love Porco Rosso, but when I watched it for...I think it was the Animated Film Tournament, I had a hard time sitting through it. What you've said about your actual nomination so far (sci-fi, potentially divisive) makes me quite intrigued, so I guess I'm glad you didn't go with this one after all haha.

Miss Vicky 07-10-19 11:30 AM

1. Spirited Away - Don't like it
2. The Lion King - Really don't like it
3. Rango - Can't decide if I like it or not
4. Beauty and the Beast - No likey Stockholm Syndrome: The Movie
5. Wall:E - Love it
6. Coraline - Eh. Okay, I guess
7. Porco Rosso - I don't like any of Hayao Miyazaki's movies and I've seen all of them.
8. How to Train Your Dragon - Love it
9. Felidae - Don't like it
10. Corpse Bride - Like it, don't love it
11. Road to El Dorado - Haven't seen it
12. Watership Down - Respect it, but don't like it. Ugly artwork
13. Bambi - Love it
14. Balto - Haven't seen it
15. Howls Moving Castle - See #7
16. Nine - Like it
17. Kung Fu Panda - Hate it
18. The Plague Dogs - Respect it more than I like it
19. Happy Feet - Liked it at first, don't care for it anymore
20. Toy Story 3 - I'm not a Toy Story fan, but I really like this one

Other two images:
The Little Mermaid: It's one of the better princess movies, but I'm not fond of it.
Fantastic Mr. Fox: Hate it

Citizen Rules 07-10-19 01:07 PM

I've only seen 3 out of the 20 picture.

#1. Spirited Away - Amazing film!
#5. Wall E - Thought it was pretty cool, a little sappy at times.
#19. Happy Feet - My wife wanted to see this at the theater, I remember not wanting to see it, but I ended up liking it.

In reality, animation is actually one of my favorite genres

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

Miss Vicky is a wild card for me. A high chance I'll enjoy or already love her noms, and a rarity that she likes one of mine lol

1. Spirited Away - Respect it, but not entirely a fan
2. The Lion King - It may have been the hype when it came out, but I'm sort of so-so on it
3. Rango - absolutely LOVE. Can watch over and over
4. Beauty and the Beast - (No likey Stockholm Syndrome: The Movie) LOVE that remark by Miss Vicky. I enjoy a romance, and surprisingly, for a SS, I enjoy this one. Could be because I've grown up on various versions of this story.
5. Wall:E - LOVE it!
6. Coraline - Own it, every time I've tried to watch it, we fall asleep. Weird.
7. Porco Rosso - Have tried to see it, haven't yet.
8. How to Train Your Dragon - Love this. Not so much the follow-ups though
9. Felidae - Haven't even heard of it.
10. Corpse Bride - Just short of Love, definitely like
11. Road to El Dorado - So-so
12. Watership Down - Been a very long time since I saw it, like, when it came out. Need a rewatch and I'm curious about the new version coming out
13. Bambi - beautiful film. Love it
14. Balto - Didn't like it
15. Howls Moving Castle - Need to see it, haven't
16. Nine - Enjoyed it
17. Kung Fu Panda - Love it despite hating Black
18. The Plague Dogs - Will NOT see it when I heard how sad it is
19. Happy Feet - Liked it, preferred Surf's Up when it comes to the outsider penguin.
20. Toy Story 3 - Was on the fence with this one.

Miss Vicky 07-10-19 03:24 PM

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

I know Cosmic doesn't like the movie I nominated. Not sure what the rest of you will think.

CosmicRunaway 07-10-19 03:56 PM

The number of animated films that I genuinely dislike (as opposed to just "not being very fond of") isn't really that high, and the only ones I would actually hate to watch again are both Miyazaki films, and that's mainly because I saw them semi-recently. Since you're not a fan of his work, it can't be either of those at least haha.

CosmicRunaway 07-10-19 04:11 PM

I was asking my room mate for some recommendations on what I should watch to decide on a nomination. He described me as being "generally indifferent" towards most animated films, which I think is a better term for what I was trying to say here haha.

ahwell 07-10-19 04:33 PM

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

Looks my nom won’t do as well as I thought it would based on the reactions so far on this thread.

HashtagBrownies 07-10-19 07:51 PM

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

Nom sent, i'm very excited.

CosmicRunaway 07-11-19 03:52 PM

After not being too thrilled by the films I picked out myself, I finally watched one my room mates have been in love with since it came out, and as long as no one else has chosen that one already, it'll be my nomination.

I guess the moral of the story is that I'm bad at choosing my own films haha.

I'm rather hyped about this one since there's every possibility of seeing some animation I've seen previously along with the occasional favorite I haven't rewatched in quite some time.

Miss Vicky 07-12-19 02:49 PM

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

I'm really curious to see what the noms are. Hoping to discover something new that I'll love.

CosmicRunaway 07-12-19 08:27 PM

My film won't be new to you, but based on what you've already written about it, you didn't dislike it, so it should at least be more enjoyable than my previous animated nomination haha.

I don’t remember what you nominated in the previous HOF. I do recall not liking Rock n Rule in the tournament though.

CosmicRunaway 07-12-19 08:32 PM

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

I nominated The Last Unicorn. I hadn't seen it since I was a kid, and I also had a lot of grievances with the film when I rewatched it for the HoF. So I wasn't exactly surprised when it placed dead last haha.

Are we perhaps talking about different tournaments? Or are we secretly the same person and I haven't realized it yet? That would certainly be a plot twist haha.

I nominated Rock & Rule in the Animated Film Tournament that Camo hosted. It didn't make it very far.

So if we stay at #7 do you want to do double noms? If so I would recommend first a reveal because I could go in four different directions based on what I see with the field. I love intellectual diversity and animation has some interesting avenues we could go down.

I'm hoping a few more join yet. Ideally 10 nominations would be great. Not too heavy yet not too light.

I had a hard enough time thinking of one nomination, so I'd rather not have to find a second. If we do go down that route, can I pass on the extra film?

I love animation and coming up with a second nomination would be easy enough for me, but I'm not sure I'm keen on committing to watching 14 movies.

13 now...I'd like to see the reveal

I wouldn't mind doing 14

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

Like I said I'm preferring a number around 10. We will give it a couple more days yet. I'm open to "raffling" off 3 more nominations somehow to make it around 10. I think 14 is a bit steep but I'd go with majority vote.

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

I'm hoping Funny Face decides to join. I told her about it yesterday and she seemed interested, but we'll see. I know she won't want to do it if there are more than ten noms though.

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

I'd be totally cool doing second noms as well if no one else joins. I'm watching a lot of animation for my "personal tournament" right now anyways, so it may actually turn into killing two birds with one stone.

I nominated Rock & Rule in the Animated Film Tournament that Camo hosted. It didn't make it very far.
did we have this conversation before?
Is this deja-vu?

Or am I just confused?

What are we talking about again?
Who are you? Where's my nurse? This ain't my medication!

anyway, I could have sworn I nominate R&R for some kind of animation tournament.
Most likely a shift the Matrix. aka Old Fart Mental Capacity

That would be really cool, but tell her, no more heartbreakers like the last one. Could not stop bawling on that beautiful one about the old couple. :)

Oh, and if we're looking to keep it at 10 and we dont' get even members perhaps those that volunteered second nominations can bring it up to 10 as a possibility.

Funny Face 07-13-19 10:59 PM

Thinking of a nomination!

Nomination sent. MV will be happy that I did NOT nominate A Goofy Movie...even though I, still, believe it has the best music from all the Disney films.

Also, I wouldn't mind in this particular HoF if nominations went over 10, so if it is decided each person nominates two, I wouldn't have any issues. I'd probably chose something I haven't seen as a second nomination. And of course, of anyone else wanted to nominate A Goofy Movie...:D

I'd like to make a second nom, my original nom has no chance at winning it's going to be very divisive but it's important film from an animation studio that really isn't talked about much.

My second nomination could be one of several films that would be "classic" I just ask to take a look at the field and seeing what film is needed.

So who else is looking to make a second nomination?

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

So it looks like we have 8.

Is 8 good with everybody? I think having 2 nominations per person is way too much.

I'm good with 8, although maybe someone will join last minute yet.

I think 10-12 makes more sense...what's the runtime of the animated films?

Mine is an 1h22min

Anywhere around 8-12 is fine with me.

@Citizen Rules you joining us?

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

I'm fine with 8.

I'll still participate no matter how many films there are, but I don't see any point in arbitrarily bumping the numbers up by giving people second noms.

Thanks for the invite. I'm tempted, but I'll have to pass. I've joined so many HoFs lately that I need to finally let my wife choose some of the movies for a change:p

edarsenal 07-16-19 01:48 PM

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

8 is okay for me as well.

I do see how, since this isn't about who wins, but the movie itself, should we decide to allow one to four of us a second nom to hit the ten mark or even bump it to twelve, I'm okay with that.
Not necessary, but I'd be okay with it.

CosmicRunaway 07-16-19 02:04 PM

It doesn't matter to me how many nominations there are. I will not be able to choose a second film, but I'm fine with others getting another choice if the majority vote to inflate the numbers.

Even though I'll be away for a week (starting tomorrow morning), I've just finished pre-writting the review for my own nomination, so I won't really be a week behind when I come back.

SFMZone 07-16-19 02:46 PM

Other than mainstream animation - Disney, Dreamworks, etc., I know nothing about Anime - I just can't get into it. But if no one minds my list would include no Anime, then I'm willing to participate. As I understand it, I am to pm my nominations. If you're looking for reviews also for the ones nominated, I'll pass. I'm good with rating movies, but I just can't get into doing reviews.

No.

The rules are that each participant nominates one film, then all participants watch and review every nominated film, then send a ballot to the host with all nominated films ranked in order of best to worst. You don't get to pick and choose which films you watch.

Fair enough, I'll enjoy this HOF from the sidelines.

Reviews are a part of the process. Sorry lad.

It sounds like what you want to do would be better suited to the Countdowns. For those you can watch whatever films you want before the deadline, then send your list to the host, no reviews necessary.

Got it. Due October, lots of time. Count me in.

Re: 2nd Animation Hall of Fame

Sorry if rauldc14 made an executive decision and I accidentally skipped over it, but I would personally be for doing second nominations, at least for a couple people. The reason is kind of selfish, and it is that I have a pre-30s blind nom that I've been meaning to watch and I know I won't get around to it soon unless I nominate it for this... I know I could also nominate for the second pre-30s HoF, but I'd rather have three new pre-30s than just two... besides, for those who haven't seen it it could help them for making choices in pre-30s countdown.

I don't care. I just want to know what the nominations are. I was hoping they'd have been posted by now.
