Actors you wish you would have seen more roles from.

Who are some actors from the past who weren't in many movies but you thought were good actors and deserved more roles ?

I think she could possibly have been an absolute marvel:

One that did have quite a few roles and whilst not always great certainly had a certain 'je ne sais quoi':

and I'll second:

I would have liked more Sean Connery.

GulfportDoc 04-07-19 01:16 PM

Certainly James Dean. Also: Carmen Miranda, Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, John Belushi, Sharon Tate, Carole Lombard, Sal Mineo, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jean Harlow and Natalie Wood.

When I read the title of this thread, this was the first actor who popped into my head:

Sherilyn Fenn
Gorgeous and a good actor, and yet she has mostly featured in terrible flicks, baring Lynch's stuff or Of Mice and Men. I should know as I have watched almost all her stuff, being a huge fan. She had so much potential and it feels that it was wasted.

If not for his terrible experience acting in The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, he might have done a few more roles. Kind of a shame.

He has a pretty satisfying filmography though, so I'm happy with what we got.

Brittany Murphy, also Celia Johnson who made around 30-40 film appearances but preferred the theatre so did most of her work there.

Pippo 06-08-19 10:53 PM

IDK if this counts but anyway.....

Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton Banks from the Fresh Prince)

I think he would've been perfect for comedy supporting roles or even lead actor

I couldn't agree more re CJ. Wasn't she wonderful in Brief Encounter? So alluring. She was also great with her restrained performance in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. What a talent.

Agreed, she was a great talent. I watched The Captains Paradise again yesterday in which she stars alongside Sir Alec Guinness and Yvonne De Carlo. She was very funny in that film and it is well worth watching.
I have seen several of her films since first coming across her in Brief Encounter which is one of the best films from the 40's.
So glad she made a few films as now her talent is forever on film for generations to enjoy. Something we would have missed had she just worked in theatre.
It makes me wonder how many other great talents we are missing from the medium of film from theatre actors that never did films.

Gideon58 06-18-19 08:52 PM

I, too loved Celia Johnson in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

Absolutely Heath Ledger. It tears my heart to think how many great roles he could have played. The greatest loss for the Cinema business.

Rachel McAdams. I think she'd do well in various roles.

Nice to see Aaron Eckhart mentioned here...one of the most underrated actors in the business.

I'd guess at....

Aaron Eckhart - Wolverine in X-men
Sandra Bullock - Neo in the Matrix
Mark Wahlberg - Brokeback Mountain
Scarlett Johansson - Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?

The latter actually wanted the role but was turned down though, can't remember hearing her turn something big down unless you include that transsexual film.

In retrospect I think its disappointing Helen Mirren's career took so long to take off, I think you can see why she was so pissed off at Parkinson implying she was only good for nudity in the 70's.

Camille Belle.

First saw her in Jurassic Park, then Practical Magic, and Secret Garden (loved both the book and movie). When a Stranger Calls was also great. She was cute as a kid and smoking hot all grown up. Got myself a printout of her in 10,000 BC. It's a shame that she doesn't act much nowadays.

JoaoRodrigues 12-24-19 09:26 AM

Heath Ledger, I guess that's the name most people will think of, but he would probably be a director, that was what I intended all along. I could say Harry Dean Stanton as well, but, yeah, he had 250 movies why do another, right? The guy lived in denial half his life, ashamed, mad he didn't had any major roles after Paris, Texas, his whole Eastern philosophy came from that derangement, a way he fond to live with himself, but I'd like to see him making another role like that one, not because I think his a great actor, his not, the only reason his an actor is because of that face, but I think he deserved.

I saw South African actress Liesl Ahlers in two films: Friend Request, where she played the evil Marina, who was hellbent on revenge against a popular girl who she thought was her friend; and Triggered, where she played Erin, the wallflower member of a group of friends forced into a deadly game to kill each other. She was so good in both films, I hope she gets to do more films. I know she did a TV series and she is also focused on her music career as well.
