Jon Favreau will write, direct and executive produce a live-action series set in the Star Wars galaxy for Disney’s forthcoming streaming service.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
Game of Thrones’ and Narcos’ Pedro Pascal is rumored to be playing the title character but nothing’s been confirmed yet. Sorry if this is a repeat. If there’s an already existing thread for this (I assume there is but nothing came up in the search), please merge. Thank you. |
Series directors include Dave Filoni, Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (the underrated Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard and Taika Waititi. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/he...v-show-1149560 |

This looks more promising than the movies. Good scoop Saunch ;)
For me, when the Ewoks first appeared onscreen the franchise never was the same. They put marketing toys to kids ahead of storytelling. Hoping this series doesnt follow suit. |

Allot of the Youtube lovers of the Last Jedi and Force Awakens dont seem fond of the First Episode. Some even said it validates why Dave Filoni should not run Lucasfilm.
What does directing anything have to do with Running Lucasfilm as a creative stand point. Filoni is perfect for creating things. Directing SW has nothing to do with the other job. I liked what Dave Filoni and Favrou have Started here. Make no mistake Filoni and Favour likely created the story for the whole season well the outline and likely Season 2. |

They are upset with the lack of female characters. It's daft how plot or story has almost become secondary to some over virtue signalling. I watched both the episodes and found them to be interesting. It comes across as a space western. Not as great as Firefly, which is the best space western I can think of, but Mandalorian is intriguing enough. And it's definitely better than Force Awakens and Last Jedi. |
The only thing interesting about all this is Werner Herzog words for Variety. I guess not everyone in that business is a hypocrite.

Only 15 minutes in to the first episode and already feel this is what episodes 7-9 should have been like.

Really liked the first two episodes. I'm sure they will screw this show, but for now, it's all good!

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
I think Jon Favrou has something no on else has. Fondness by Disney because has given them 2 hits from the Jungle Book and Lion King Remakes and From the MCU Iron Man and Iron Man 2. I think Alan Horn gave Jon a crack at Star Wars and we see what happens when Kennedy cannot mess with there creative because she was sidetracked with Episode 9. Dave Filoni and John Favrou and Mandalorian vs Kennedy and JJ Abrams and Rise OF Skywalker. I Think even if Episode 9 Makes Last Jedi Numbers money wise. I Think Mandalorian could win over Iger and Disney and could see new change. Cause movies is one thing but Iger needs Disney Plus to work too so am sure he is looking at that.
|
I haven't been so entertained or excited about a Star Wars project since all the way back to Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. I think the reasons why is Star Wars was an American sci-fi cover of the Hidden Fortress, and the Mandalorian is somewhat a Sci-Fi cover of Lone Wolf and Cub. Absolutely brilliant formula especially for a series. There's so much Star Wars lore that they're touching on quite smartly and smoothly and more importantly - organically. They're not introducing all sorts of new races and things just to sell more toys , they're just using the stuff that's been shown before in a very effortless fresh way. Anyone that doesn't really care for the Mandalorian I think it would be safe to say they just won't care for Star Wars projects at all.

There are hundreds of nods to the OT, which has been nice, but wears on me some now into EP 4. There is nothing inherently wrong with the show, and there is a strange, overwhelming cuteness that takes spotlight for the better part of two episodes; but, having watched ep4 last night I'm not sure how long that can be leaned on before becoming a crutch. I'm really feeling some 80's T.V. patterns of Hard Time on Planet Earth. Right now it's veering away from Farscape and skidding firmly into Stargate. The series, not the movie. With D+, I've watched a few older Disney sports flicks but the library appears to be quite small unless I'm missing a major search category. Two more EPS of The Mandalorian and I will have likely plateaued my viewing experience here. For SURE worth the pilot. I'm just not sure of its staying power yet. Keep in mind that I'm never happy with anything so YMMV. |
Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
Dave Filoni Pilot episode was good I thought First Live Action. Episode 2 was just a fun episode 3 The best episode this season so far and Episode 4 introduces another great Character that could have its own series. The Mandalorian is best thing to happen to star wars and finale is after Episode 9 is released.

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
I've watched the first three episodes so far and have little mixed feelings. It's definitely more interesting than the new trilogy has been and its overall style has some promise. It just seems that there's not much going on; after the second episode, I was even wondering if they have a proper script or are just making an event or two up on the spot per episode. There are no characters or any sort of story after three episodes. I'm really hoping it manages to start something by the end of the first season.
P.S. Anyone else expecting this to become a PG-13 Lone Wolf and Cub in space? |
I'm still getting that "meh" feeling, that I was hearing after ep 1.
Really seems to be a dearth of creativity at LF. Again if only they hadn't binned the EU they could've leant on those bounty hunter stories, or the Rogue squadron series which could have been epic. Noobs. They've learned the hard way I guess. |
Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
I'm digging it, a lot. Good vibe, not much fluff (could easily be padded a little and be close to an hour per episode), parsimonious storytelling with clear lines that really brings the original trilogy to mind. Little darker, too, with all the killing. They're not just doing a soft-and-cuddly hero bounty hunter.
Good stuff. |

Good stuff. Mando's character is made to be Space Punisher or Space Terminator. Anyways, props to Filoni and Favreau. They are doing a good job. |
Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
Oh sure, you could do a super cool borderline R-rated version of this. But it's definitely darker than I expected under the circumstances, too.
|
Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
I don't want darker. I like it the way it is. It even feels kind of silly at times just like the original trilogy.
|
Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
I wouldn't mind darker (obviously) but it's Star Wars so I'm fine with little lighter tone. My issue is the lack of story and characters. It's like a video game character grinding the side quests.

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
My brother was enthusiastically telling me this show was actually very good, so I decided to give it a shot. I'll never trust his taste in anything ever again. I couldn't finish 15 minutes of the first episode, it was non-stop cringe. The acting had a goofy tone that made it impossible for me to achieve any immersion. All of the costumes looked brand new, so any sense of poverty on backwater worlds was tacky. Even the dirt looked clean. This did not feel like Star Wars at all, more like some childish nerd fantasy in a Star Wars rip-off alternate universe. The plot was pure nerd fantasy, and I'll give an example of what I mean. The first episode starts with the Mandalorian walking into a bar. People pick a fight with him for no apparent reason and he defeats them effortlessly in Mary-Sue fashion with martial arts that are so slow and obviously choreographed they make Seraph's sucker punch in The Matrix Reloaded look like it wasn't telegraphed at all.
It was worse than I was expecting, and my expectations were so low I was dreading it as it were. I didn't think it was possible to be worse than I was expecting, but they nailed it. If only it had that so-bad-it's-good appeal, I could enjoy it for that. But it was just boring and lame in every way shape and form imaginable. Let's see all the red flags: 1. One dimensional Mary-Sue characters 2. Costumes and props way too clean 3. Implausible plot and Deus-Ex Machinas 4. Cliche boring dialogue 5. Wooden and goofy acting 6. Realism sacrificed for dramatic effect That's what I noticed within the first fifteen minutes, and you couldn't make me watch more if you put a gun to my head or payed me all the money in the universe. I'm kidding about not being able to watch more, but if you payed me well I'd do an in-depth critical review. Still, I'd rather turn down a million dollars and do something more meaningful with my time, like watch paint dry. I don't think it's possible to bash this show enough. This was worse than Twilight. I got through an hour of Twilight because it had some so-bad-it's-good appeal. |
Binge-watched the entire thing in one sitting.
Spoilers... I guess. Starts really strong with a right-in-your-face ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST Harmonica entrance rip-off (although a much less sophisticated version of it) and throws you right into the world of Star Wars. The first two episodes are a helluva ride, but then the series makes a halt and drops in quality to regain it in the sixth episode in which crimson-lit white corridors see lots of healthy tension interrupted by Disney-friendly yet exciting outbursts of violence. The de facto two-episode finale is quite a spectacle, too, as long as you can suspend your disbelief and just get along with the ride. By far the weakest yet stil solid episode would be number four, a simple mix of SHANE and SEVEN SAMURAI. I never knew that I always wanted to see a fantasy version of LONE WOLF AND AND A CUB with a Capitalist Cheburashka / Green Gizmo. Seriously, all they had to do was repeat the Baby Groot cutesy cute from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, although my nitpick would be that Baby Yoda was not cute enough. Also, IG-11 doing his HARD BOILED Chow Yun-fat thing is perhaps the most badass scene I've seen this year (which is a very convenient thing to say as it's still January, and I can easily go back on this). All in all, pretty good entertainment even though the story felt like a side-quest line in SKYRIM. Never expected anything else. I will be watching Season 2. Lots of haters, but they hated the new Star Wars, too, so I don't care. Oh, and let's finish this with a pun. You know, they're very progressive nowadays. This show also has a strong female character. |
Enjoyed it but I'm not seeing any creativity from Lucasfilm which is their core problem. The whole thing relies on characters major and minor from 40 years ago. Boba Fett 2.0, Yoda, Tatooine, IG 88, Empire.
Strong cast right through though, took me a while to place Nick Nolte and GOAT movie villain Clacy Brown, love Gina Carano, don't subscribe to some of the strong women complaints this time around. Maybe the strong cast and Star Wars feel made it feel better than it was. Looking forward to the next one. Made me wish they'd pick up what I remember being excellent book series in Rogue Squadron / Wraith Squadron. |

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
Sheesh! That looks pretty good! Been thinking about rewatching the first season. Prolly gonna right before this gets going again.
|
Decent first episode. Looks like more money was splurged than the first season, which had that campy 80's look(which I loved). This one looked like a movie.
Main plot wasn't greatly advanced, but overall a decent start. |
Episode three of this season is the best of the lot. It had everything.
|
Episode four continues the good work of three, and more importantly the main plot moves forward.
Two side observations. 1) Stormtroopers in this series are absolutely useless. Almost like target practice for our heroes. 2) I don't agree with the internet. Gina Carano looked weirdly hotter to me with that extra bit. PS: Looks like I am the only one here watching season two. |
Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
Nah, I'm watching it, just not sure I have a lot to say. It's not the kind of show I analyze in detail or theorycraft about, because it's not really about mysteries or plot. There's some of that, but it's toned down, and refreshingly so. It reminds me of Justified, in that there's a nice overarching story but each episode is fairly self-contained and enjoyable in its own right, which is how TV is supposed to be. It's not supposed to just be a giant movie arbitrarily chopped into pieces, and I really like it when a show is restrained and competent, like The Mandalorian is. I don't think there's been a single bad episode yet, as a result.
|
Everybody's watching it.

GOD THIS SHOW IS THE BOMB! :) I love it.
Grogo, I like it. If Chris B. hadn't already been Yoda here at MoFo I'd change TONGO to GROGO and use that cute little Gremlin ripoff as my Av. What surprises me is how the storyline hasn't faltered or "sold out" like the original franchise did. I can remember when it first happened, tremors of a sell-out were being felt by the audience in Ep. VI Return of the Jedi when all those different droids and races were in endless supply. Parents just knowing they'd have to buy every damn ones action figure for their kids. Then the hammer fell, the Ewoks. I can still remember half of the audience going "Awwwwww!" and the other half outright groaning in disgust by the marketing shamelessness. Jones Favreau is a genius. He took a forgettable Marvel superhero in Iron Man had made him as popular as Spidey & Wolvie (assist by RDJ), and now has saved the Star Wars franchise. Good job to Disney and I give my money to D+ happily. |

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
I'm glad Disney is pretty much ignoring all these cancellation attempts of people on the show. This is turning into the best content they've done in years at Star Wars central. Maybe there's some hope that the next trilogy can follow The Mandolorians path and become watchable more than once.
|
He's back.
Who?! I will not spoil! Alls Ill say is one of the coolest Star Wars characters of all time, and he just got cooler. :) :) :) |
God what happened to the dialogue writing in the latest episode. All throughout this series they have used silence or smart dialogues to convey things. And suddenly in the last episode they decided to spell out everything to the audience in case we don't understand the basic things. 'Let me land on the side I can't land on the top', 'I will protect you while you finish your yoga'.
I know it's irrelevant thing but it just felt so out of place and definitely ruined my viewing experience. Otherwise the episode was good. |
We are back to well written dialogues. Latest episode
|
Halfway through s2, decent enough, reminds me of the Witcher. This weeks big baddie to hunt is............
One complaint is that I'd have to watch a ****ty SW cartoon to find out who some of the characters are. So it seems they may eventually attempt to bring some of the main OT characters back through the Mandalorian, then perhaps onto their own series. When I say "it seems", that's nothing more than a prediction. I don't see why not though, especially with the relative success of the Mandalorian. Cinema seems to be moving to streaming and who doesn't want to get the taste of hobo green milk Luke Skywalker out of their mouth. |
Just finished watching Season 2. Watched it in one sitting. It's still enjoyable but while with Season 1 they would rip off other movies, here they rip off other movies AND Season 1. The entire thing feels, just like Season 1, like a side questline in some computer game. The final episode sure is a twist. Griffith's last minute rescue and uncanny valley combined for some cheesy goodness!
Baby Yoda? Oh. I liked Cheburashka before it was cool. |
Looks like the rumours I had heard about this show a few weeks ago were true. Damn.

I thought season 2 was just character development. I have loved every episode and I enjoyed seeing Bill Burr again and Olyphant. I am going to watch the last episode now.

I've watched every episode and thoroughly enjoyed it.
No huge sub plots muddying the story, just a man and a baby making their way through the trials and tribulations of life to reach their destination with help from their friends. I don't watch TV to analyse each and every programme I view, I just sit there in my grundies (not a sight for the faint hearted or someone with asthma) and enjoy it. I've found most programmes improve after the first series, Blackadder from the BBC being a prime example. I agree with Yoda on what a TV programme should be too, I hate those long drawn out progs like Lost and The 100. |
I enjoyed season 2, but the last episode was the lowest point for me. Some friends had raved about it (spoiler free) so maybe that's the reason? It was ambitious but the execution almost made me throw up in my mouth
Bill Burr was ace, the 1st episode he was in kinda pulled me out of the episode a bit but the return was great for me |

SPOILERS
S2 was Ok, can't imagine myself ever wanting to watch it again. Some of the combat scenes vs Stormtroopers were Austin Powers level bad, like the rock tumbling down knocking them down, virtually the same scene as: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4UFQWKjy_I Many of the stormtroopers dying to melee weapons reminds me of the armed henchmen running at Batman conveniently instead of standing back shooting. Wasn't too happy with the return of Boba Fett who is now John Wick instead of a mysterious clever adversary. It all still feels very thin on the ground story wise, based on nostalgia and fan service. However it looks like this may be the first step of launching a combined TV/movie Star Wars universe brining back the characters we REALLY want to see, clean slate post ROTJ world hopefully forgetting about the recent films, and there are hints of bringing back the EU into it, Thrawn? yes please. AS for the finale, that was OK I guess, Jon Favreau knows what we want. **** you Rian Johnston, loser! I would have preffered they had their ducks in a row and actually had Luke recast and ready to go instead of another CGI like Tarkin/Leia. However they had Mark Hamill on set, providing the voice (tinkered with obv). |

I thought exactly the same, the mouth looks worse than the original. But still a pretty good job for the length of time they spent on it |
Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
I know it's a really fine line talking about these things today. I'm going to try and to also be kinda brief if possible. I think what Disney is doing to Gina Carano is wrong. I believe one of the first things we need to do as a nation is to CANCEL cancel culture if we hope to come together. We need to talk to each other, not find more ways to get people who don't talk right deplatformed.
I feel the only "real" thing I can do is to no longer support this show or Disney+. So, in order to cancel cancel culture we have to cancel Disney+? I know... it makes no sense. |
Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
Yeah, very fine line. A reminder that we've banned political discussions, and to be fair to everyone that mostly means not starting conversations that will necessarily become political if someone wants to reply, otherwise one person gets to say what they want and the next can't.
We're being flexible on all this because a) it's tough and b) it's a new rule, but I think this is outside the scope of the show itself. |
Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
I feel ya. If need be I can edit out the personal stuff and just leave it at, I won't be watching anymore. Unless they change their minds.
|
Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)
The problem being that Carano has a history of posting increasingly divisive rhetoric and has had ample opportunity to "talk to each other" (e.g. Pedro Pascal countering her mockery of preferred pronouns) that she's ultimately disregarded, so I don't think you can pin what's happened entirely on "cancel culture".
Back on topic, that CGI Luke was so bad it made me embarrassed to have ever invested in this show anyway. |
