Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
But will Adam Warlock be coming in 2020? That is the question
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
To come, or not to come...
|
Not a question of if, but when. :D
A lot of the articles seem to imply that he is gonna be a jump-off for phase IV. He may have a role in IW, but for sure he will be a main part of G3. |
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
WARNING: spoilers below
I think he'll show up in IW:P2 and be the catalyst to beating Thanos. That or they'll have Nebula or Gamora sacrificing themselves to take him down ala the comics.
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
WARNING: spoilers below
I would rather they leave Warlock out of Infinity War and have it all be Gamora and Nebula’s journey, stepping out of his shadow (and Drax has a stake in this too, remember).
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
See, the thing about Infinity War is that it has to wrap up A LOT of arcs. Iron Man, Cap Amer, Gamora/Nebula, Drax, Bucky, Nick Fury (If he shows up), Loki maybe, Hulk?, Hawkeye, pretty much most people from Phase 1.
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
I think, for the most part, it should simple to provide closure. Iron Man needs to further on his character in Spider-Man: Homecoming, maturing into a leader or caretaker for all Avengers as he is with Peter Parker. Becoming the new Nick Fury figure and putting sentiment aside (as Black Widow notes in Civil War).
Cap needs to do so as well and acknowledge his selfishness (which he hinted at in the very end of Civil War). Loki sacrificing himself (or, at least, he’s ego) for the sake of the marauded Asgardians (maybe giving them and his rival sibling a chance to escape (and didn’t Hiddleston say he was about ready to leave the role?)), that could all be done in flashy action sequences. |
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
All i want is Nathan Fillian To Play The Nova Core Guardians Character. Could care less who plays the Adam Warlock character but isnt that a plot hole issue since we saw in Guardians 1 Warlocks cocoon already and its open.
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
I enjoyed GotG2. Looking forward to the third installment.
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
GotG 2 was awesome (I dislike the first) so I’m looking forward for the 3rd one. Hope for another amazing sondtracks
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Warlock will definitely be around soon.
He appeared at the end of GotG2... so he has to be showing up soon. |
James Gunn’s been fired from the director’s job after a series of offensive tweets about rape and pedophilia resurfaced.
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/he...edium=referral |
:D Justice Is Served!
Even as a Marvel fan, I always found Gunn to be a massive a-hole in real life. The guy couldn’t stay off Twitter and couldn’t keep his foot out of his mouth. Gunn has always been a divisive hate monger and always seemed to be way more than a few cents short of a dollar. These new revelations expose him to be even worse than I realized. Honestly, this is wonderful news and makes me feel better about Disney and mankind in general. Good riddance. |
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
If you honestly think Gunn is a divisive hate-monger, you should see the guy who dug up the tweets in the first place.
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Well, It's done. No going back. Stuff happens sometimes.
Taika Waititi, anyone? |
Give it to Rian Johnson
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
I'm glad the only social media redickulousness I post is on MoFo. More like a bunch of prattle.
It might be a shizzy reason to be so, but tolerance got thrown out the window about 3 exits back. Then again, if you don't realize there isn't any value in twitter or the "gram" when you have so much to lose... |

Dave Bautista is not sure he wants to work for Disney anymore and thus, not sure if he plans to return as Drax. |

Avengers 4 -
Thor: unfortunately, Thanos’ actions have weakened the gauntlet. I don’t know if I can bring everyone back... |

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Some updates:
Chris Pratt told MTV News that Marvel has agreed to use James Gunn's script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. https://consequenceofsound.net/2019/...s-gunn-script/ That's the good news, but the bad news is that the fan favorite to replace Gunn as director, Taiki Waititi, is NOT going to direct the film out of respect for Gunn. In his exact words from The Wrap: "For me, those are James [Gunn]’s films. Going into something like that with his stamp all over his films would be like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad, and this is how we make peanut butter sandwiches now.’ It feels kind of awkward.” |
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Wow. They've hired Gunn back:
https://twitter.com/yashar/status/1106618365274054656 I guess at the time there was a lot more uncertainty about what kinds of things were supposedly unforgivable, but vague standards and tiers of offenses seem to be coming into view, and they've decided Gunn was safe to hire. Kind of interesting. |
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Step in the right direction.
|
I do think it's important that people see there is a limit to the punishments for insensitivity. Very few people like the idea of blacklists, or issuing career death sentences, merely for bad or inconsiderate jokes.
And I think in the long-run that's better for whatever standards people are fighting for in the first place, simply because a tempered and forgiving posture towards sensitivity is a lot more likely to succeed than an unforgiving and vindictive one. |
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
According to the report at Deadline, Gunn had met Alan Horn (head of Disney) numerous times and that Horn seem impressed with not only Gunn's public apology, but his handling of the situation. Gunn is going to do The Suicide Squad first then do Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
How interesting is that contract with Warner/Disney? Can't imagine it's industry standard for a director to have his hand in competing pots.
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
I guess Bautista is happy.
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Eh, the sequel wasn't really that good. Still, I think it's only fitting that he finishes the trilogy he started.
Yay! |
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Being a GotG Stan, I like it the less I see it. Perhaps I'm fickle, but...there are great moments, but among other things the music drives me crazy.
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
This is a huge step for society. A mega-company like Disney paving way for a less sensitive society and not living like an afraid little mouse who don’t want to step on anybody or offend anybody. I hope more will follow and stop being little bitches about all things in life.
|
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
I'd rather it was a sign that they weren't going to cave in to a bad-faith right-wing smear campaign that was less concerned with sensitivity in its own right than it was with deplatforming a vocally left-wing public figure.
In any case, can't wait to see how @yellowjacket1 weighs in on this. |
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
|
I'm hoping Rocket finds a mate who is like him (In vol. 1, he says "Ain't no one like me"). I'm hoping she's a fox, and they play with the "She's a fox" line.

Using Spacehog in the trailer is probably a good indication of the direction of this soundtrack/every 5 second needledrop.

Oh yeah, I enjoyed the music choice. By total coincidence I was going through an old hard drive's contents a few weeks ago and came upon that and enjoyed listening to it again for the first time in years.

So hyped for this. I was laughing like hell at the start of the trailer where Drax threw the ball on that child’s face

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
and box office
|
I just hope it's better than Quantumania. Marvel's Phase 5 so far has not been very good.
I LOVE GOTG v1 and v2. I just realized it's much easier to say "mix tape" than "mix disc". ;) I wonder which classic songs this soundtrack will include. I'd love to hear Space Truckin' by Deep Purple. Peter Quill could at least wear the t-shirt. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DQW5yIcWkAUpz6U.jpg |
The first one had the most coherent plot, the second was the funniest and this one was the most sentimental. There were some funny bits but overall it was just a bit messy. They just run around rescuing each other like in Avatar 2. It wasn't Love and Thunder bad, but a bit disappointing all the same.
|
The first will always be my favorite Marvel film. It was lightning in a bottle. The second, all I think about are the needle drops :suspicious:
This one feels like Gunn wasn’t trying to put his newest, brightest, risky idea out. Like he knew the relationship had soured and he was saving his juice for the next big thing. Maybe indulge in some of his schlocky tendencies. Let’s not use any great songs I want for the future. Make Adam Warlock a himbo :suspicious:. Wrap it up with an Ewok dance party. I enjoyed it, it never drags, it just wasn’t special this time. |
The final battle was messy.
WARNING: "The High Evolutionary" spoilers below
Earlier, the High Evolutionary was surrounded by his staff and the had their guns all on him, and he vaporized them all with little effort. Later the Guardians have him surrounded, and he just folds. I thought this was messy.
|
It was ok. After seeing L&T, Im happy with ok. Dont foresee going to another Marvel film for awhile, was urged by my boss to see this one.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Also. Groot looked bad in this movie.
|
The High Evolutionary's plan didn't really make sense.
WARNING: "the bad plan" spoilers below
The High Evolutionary was after Rocket's brain, because Rocket was special i.e. Rocket was very smart, or very creative, or something... Which then begs the question: Didn't the H.E. create a civilization? Weren't at least SOME of those people highly intelligent or creative? And H.E. decided to destroy this planet because they weren't behaving well, yet Rocket isn't exactly a model on good behavior.
|
That the ideal society of Counter Earth looked like American suburbs of the 80s was possibly the strangest thing about the High Evolutionary's plan.
They failed to make any sense of the Quill/Gamora situation. Quill now needs to 'learn how to swim' by being alone? When previously it has been about him learning to take things seriously and be part of a team. It's not the first time the MCU has fluffed a character's emotional arc for the sake of a neat ending... Captain America going back to be with Peggy after several films worth of him moving on and learning to live in the modern world springs to mind. |
Another thing I forgot about, the Guardians theme was non-existent.
The first two prominently featured the swell of horns that signified the good guys getting the upper hand. It’s so good, they had the Hoff remix it!!! Seems like they played it twice this time 🥺 |
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Other than Spider-Man, of Marvel's current crop of movies, the Guardians of the Galaxy series is among the only ones left I have a "must watch" mentality for. Everything else, I could take or leave, personally. That said, I look forward to watching this film.

Not to mention it sidelined Rocket the whole movie. End sucked. Just basically tied off loose knots abruptly. I just think the most unforgivable aspect is Peter and Gamora's relationship. Again alot of it was taken out of his hands. I think if Gunn could have separated GOTG from the MCU he might have been able to land this plane. He landed it but the plane was a mess and unflyable now.

But that's exactly it - despite T.H.E.'s deliberate efforts to create truly intelligent life again and again, his only success (by his extremely exacting standard, at least) was the purely accidental Rocket. The blonde children are his latest experiment and he complains that they can memorise and perform complex tasks but can't actually innovate on their own so he also considers them expendable - the same is arguably true of the people of Counter-Earth and how their civilisation has effectively stagnated in the same sort of suburbs and slums as modern America. That's the reason he purges them, not because of some arbitrary idea of "bad behaviour" (which he would excuse in Rocket's case since it's a by-product of his unique intelligence).

Captain America going back to be with Peggy after several films worth of him moving on and learning to live in the modern world springs to mind. Each of Quill's individual arcs across each movies has been one of maturity and acceptance. The original had him learn to open up to others again after being emotionally stunted by his mother's death, Vol. 2 had him come to terms with his true parentage and realise that Yondu was a better father figure for him than Ego ever was, and this one had him deal with the fact that the Gamora he knew was gone. If anything...
WARNING: "GOTG 3" spoilers below
I respect that they didn't actually bring them back together again. It's as if Gunn was consciously avoiding the same empty regression as the Steve/Peggy ending and knew that it made more sense for Quill (and by extension the rest of the Guardians) to move on in their own directions, especially if it meant him finally returning home after spending decades on space adventures.

This contrasts with the constrained vision which sees man as imperfectible, which results in a need for governments built with checks and balances to make the best society that can be made from the crooked timber of humanity. The unconstrained vision, on the other hand, sees badness in people are people bad training, upbringing, education. Thus, they go in for utopian projects that erase history, start at year zero, and attempt to create a better man to inhabit a perfected world. The American Revolution followed the former. The French Revolusion, the latter. |

Ah yes, Back to the Future syndrome.

As a Kurt Russell guy I'm shocked but this might actually be my favorite of the three.

Is this screenshot from: a) The latest computer game b) The latest Guardians of the Galaxy movie https://i.imgur.com/tUMZH1w.png |
Found entertaining with Rocket's love interest. Other than that, wasn't overly impressed and a tad underwhelming. Rate the series:
1. The second 2. The first 3. The third |
Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Caught this over the weekend, obviously going in with low expectations. I thought it was better than I expected but still not without its problems. My wife loved it, as she loves animal stuff, and therefore loved the focus on Rocket. I hate the stupid communist dog. The CCCP was responsible for millions upon millions of deaths, and represents some of the worst aspects of a failed system. Might as well just slap a swastika on the thing, as far as I am concerned. I understand, but don't care that it was canon re: the comic.
Anyway, a fairly somber affair, and was sad to see the saga come to an end, as I adore the first film so much. Despite its problems, still one of the better films in the most recent phase, but that isn't a high bar. |

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
The new team could be a turtle, an accountant, and a can opener, but if James Gunn's directing I'd give it a shot.
|
This may have been the last MARVEL movie ill ever see. Haven't even tried Ant-Man 3 yet, and unless there's some overwhelming outpouring of love towards a new release ill just avoid them altogether. From Iron Man 1 up till Endgame was a masterpiece. Now?!
Meh. I think the magics gone. Once Hollywood puts its own thinking ahead of the source material, or original successful formula it always spells The End. Case in point, I heard in Deadpool 3 they're not letting Ryan Reynolds improv' quips into the film. sigh! |

This was a decent flick, but you couldn't ignore the fact that there wasn't anyhing new shown here. Same old superhero stuff, jokes & action. Nothing of it will be remembered.
The new team, which most probably be for a series, will look like every other Marvel series. On a side note, if you are looking for an enjoyable new superhero movie then the new Spiderverse movie is actually brilliant. |
Too Rocket-centric but manages to smuggle moments of genuine sincerity, a rarity in Marvel movies. Most of the humor is still the bad old Marvel sarcasm/irony, but the emotional core of the story works rather well. The villain is pretty generic but I like how Rocket says "Because I'm a freaking Guardian of the Galaxy". It was almost exactly what I had thought about earlier that day about the inherent value of human life and how the fact another person cannot see that value in others doesn't mean that we are free from our duty to try to see the fleeting sparks of humanity that reside deep within that person's soul. Warlock's arc is another sincere moment, though I can understand the allegations of how on-the-nose, predictable, or glued-on it was. All in all, not that special in general. But special as far as Marvel movies go.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
I think like most people I didnt really know anything about these characters but i went into GotG with an open mind. I thoroughily enjoyed the first movie and liked the 2nd one as well but not quite as much as the first. That being said there were many great parts in it ie Yondu using his arrow on the traitorous crew.
The 3rd one for me was a bit underwhelming. It didnt seem to have the same 'magic' as the others. I found the villain of the High Evolutionary to be a bit of a joke tbh. His shouting temper tantrums and being far too emotional to be taken seriously. I prefer villains not exactly to be emotionless but to keep their emotions in check as that makes them more intimidating. That being said GotG Vol.3 is still a fairly good movie and one of the better superhero outings of late. |
This is another possible New Guardians of the Galaxy (many of the "Ravagers" were original Guardians in the comics.)
