The Batman
A few days ago Affleck released test footage of Deathstroke, causing the internet to explode with rumours and expectations.
It's been revealed that Deathstroke is to appear, and will be played by Joe Manganiello. Manganiello is famous as Peter Parker's school bully Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy... and as Richie in Magic Mike. Other current rumours being leaked, is that the movie will be "the definitive Batman movie" and will have the cast of Suicide Squad (Joker, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, El Diablo, Enchantress, Katana, Slipknot)... ... and will also feature Robin/Nightwing, Batgirl, Riddler, Penguin, Two Face, Mr Freeze, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Bane and Scarecrow as well. No release date as yet, but the Batfleck is writing, directing, acting. -- My own thoughts is that some of it may well be cameos for future reference and some flashback scenes. |

Assuming any of this is true I would be seriously interested in seeing a lot of these characters get another chance on the big screen. I mean some weren't too bad, I liked DeVito's Penguin and Pfeiffer's Catwoman. But after Berry and Hathaway's portrayals I'm ready to see another actor bring that character to life. Robin, Poison Ivy, Batgirl, Mr. Freeze and Two Face are itching for a comeback. The Riddler also, but not as much as the others, seeing as Carrey embodied that character pretty well. But I'll admit, I'd like to see what someone else could do with it. I wouldn't mind seeing some of the characters from Suicide Squad come back, especially Harley and Enchantress. I assume Joker will still be played by Leto. In that case I hope he works on his delivery, because his portrayal in Suicide Squad was awful. I actually had this discussion with someone not too long ago about it. The reason why Ledger or Nicholson's Joker was more successful is because they didn't go into it so much trying to be the Joker, instead they found aspects of themselves in that character that allowed them to make him come across more naturally. With Nicholson there was a charismatic, almost jovial quality to his insanity that Nicholson tapped into. With Ledger, considering what he was going through personally at the time tapped into a darker, more subtle anguish. With Leto, it seems he's trying to combine both elements and it's not working out. It all boils down to the fact that they need to start working on a Deadshot movie. |
Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
The Assault on Arkham movie. I'm looking forward to Affleck retconing Snyder.
|
Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
could you post it?
I hate the idea of having too many famous/known characters in one movie,it just doesnt work and builds up expectations to a level where it cant deliver; superman vs batman/suicide squad. i love poison ivy and would love comeback for her. i also like catwoman but i dont want them in the same movie. |
Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
If the cast is going to be this large, my bet is that they're going to follow the Batman: No Man's Land arc.

Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
I really can't stand all the comic book movies these days excluding the dark knight trilogy and raimis Spider-Man 2. A flex should stick to directing, he's made some very very good films, if he is going to get in a new batman film I'd be more inclined to watch it if he actually directs it and stars,

Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
The only part of this that is true is Ben Affleck is writing, directing, and starring as Batman and Joe Manganiello is confirmed to play Deathstroke. Everything else is just a rumor. Ben Affleck has released zero details on his script or the characters involved.
|
Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
News in... Affleck's Batman solo movie is to be titled...
... The Batman. |
Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
Rodent, have you seen Batman vs. Superman yet?
|
Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
Yeah. I thought it was pretty good tbh.
Then again, I prefer DC to Marvel anyway. Marvel is gash. |
Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
Batman v. Superman received a harsh response from critics, in my opinion. Marvel excels at light-heart hilarity with sprinklings of depth, while recent DC has always had strength in creating a spectacle. I'll admit, some aspects of the film are a little ho-hum and slow-burn, and in some instances, Jesse Eisenberg's performance of Lex Luthor is a little hammier than what the film needed, but in total, the narrative itself was inspired and the action-sequences were worthwhile. I wouldn't call it a great film, but I wouldn't call it a terrible film. I do hope Batman has a more cohesive and pinpointed narrative structure to it, however.

This really spells doom for the DCEU officially.
Everyone (including me) was saying that after Snyder craps the bed for the third time that they would hand everything over to Affleck and he'd save the day. All focus was on The Batman since Affleck has proven he can make good films as a director. Now, he's frustrated but still has to honor the contract he signed to act in these garbage movies. Since he's stuck, might as well get producer money on top of it to ease the pain. At least the money will be better than the Fox Daredevil days. |

That's too bad, that was the other movie other than The FlashI was hopeful for with the DCU, mainly because I'm very confident with Affleck as a director. Although I don't think it's a death sentence. He's still an attached writer, and producer, so just get someone that's not Snyder that has something good under their belt, and I'm still up for it.

So much for this being a "filmmaker-driven" franchise.
|
Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
Affleck is still the one who will chose the new director and his partner, he is still working with Geoff Johns on writing it and he will act in it. It's kinda sickening to see people bashing DC for this, or even having something against Affleck for stepping down, first of all he is actor and a writer for this movie, being director + having other projects is a huge thing, people act like making everything yourself is just a normal thing. I'm honestly glad he did this, he will be able to make better movies aside and he will be able to perform better in this one, he and Johns will still chose their partner, so if you had faith in Affleck I don't see why that would be gone. Would I like Affleck make a Batman movie? Yes. Would people bitch about it if he dose not do good because his hand was forced and he couldn't focus on this fully? YES. DC movies ain't worse than Marvel, they have flaws, but I found every one of them a good watch.

Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
It looks like Matt Reeves is in early talks right now to helm the film.

Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
The DCEU unfortunately seems to be in turmoil right now it seems that a constant slew of bad news after bits of bad news seems to be coming from WB/DC like the lose of yet another director for Flash and having to write yet another script, then Affleck saying that they do not have a script for The Batman and then stepping down as director. I was hoping that 2017 was going to be the year that the DCEU got on track as lets be honest 2016 was not a very good year for their movies critically. Still maybe Affleck stepping down will be a blessing in disguise I guess only time will tell. Looking forward to seeing how both WW and JL turn out though.
|
Re: Batman (Affleck) - Release Date Not Yet Known
I think they have multiple scripts and they are trying to see what fits best. As for Matt Reeves, I think he just has a busy schedule. Mainly with War of the Planet of the Apes.

News in is that Matt Reeves isn't just directing... he's also producing... and has complete creative control over the movie.
WB apparently isn't going to interfere and has learned from Suicide Squad. Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins has said this is a great move by WB and has praised Matt. |

Honestly, I don't even care anymore. I want them to reboot this DCCU, dump all the actors/directors/writers/producers and start over fresh. I hate Affleck as Batman and I hate every single aspect of this DCCU so far.
As I've been saying for the past year now: WB is trying to throw fresh linen on TOP of soiled linen and that's not right. Who wants to sleep on a bed of *****? I know *I* don't. They need to change all the bedding and start over. The foundation of this DCCU is crumbling and should be condemned. |

Re: The Batman (Affleck)
So, when the topic is DCEU, we're not allowed to say we dislike the DCEU or comment on their controversial choices that led to ruin and meme's.
because Marvel is "colorful and kiddie" (Where have I heard that before and from who?) Never once did I ever think "Colorful" would be used as an insult towards comic book films. But I guess marvel needs to grow up like DC... http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...psxykzmwpm.jpg Oh look, even the "grown up" cereal failed. |

The beauty of boards like this is the freedom for one to express themselves how they see fit. That's why we come here. If people want nothing but praise for a product they love, they need to join a fan forum and even THERE you are going to find criticisms that you may/may not agree with. Such is life. But to tell someone to stop expressing their honest opinions? I don't like that in real life and I don't like that online. I've heard a plethora of bad opinions online--all over the net--but never told someone to stop expressing them. That's simply not good board conduct. |

The DCEU was damaged by Nolan's movies tbh. They went the route of realistic and dark, and are revered by everyone who watched them.
The DCEU hasn't fully gone that realistic route, but has tried to keep the darker tones of Nolan's films... and it's created a tone that people weren't expecting. |

A mistake they made was not having Bale return, maybe.
If Bale's Bruce returned from like a 10 year exile, with Batman being played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce taking the suit back and JGL then becoming Nightwing... or simply have JGL as Nightwing and Bruce simply returning to the Batsuit, then that would have been cool. |

The DCEU was damaged by the ineptitude of an idiot who thinks killing off Jimmy via headshot was "fun". And that muted colors = "dark and mature" And that superman should be an Emo And that 1% of anything is a guaranty of anything And that stopping a movie to show trailers is a great idea. That's what killed the DCEU |

Is there a measure of how much love a person should keep throwing toward a movie they love? No. Why would there be? On that same token--why should there be some measure of how much HATE can be thrown? I complain incessantly about this hot mess because I DO NOT LIKE IT. Simple as that. I LOVE many DC products. I want GREAT ones. When I'm disappointed in their current direction, I complain. Simple as that. Let me give you another example. I HATE and LOATHE Twilight. Do you see me mentioning that around here constantly? Nope. I did once and that was it. Why? Because I'm not a fan of that crap. I'm a fan of DC and hate what they're doing right now. My point? If you love a product and they start doing things you hate, you react to said change. Why? Out of love for the product. If you're content with your love for your product then people like me shouldn't bug you. If I AM bugging you and you can't tolerate what I'm saying about the DCCU, you'd be better off placing me on ignore right now because my discussions on this are NOT going to end any time soon. That's simply a fact that YOU, not me, will have to adjust to....which is why you'd be better off ignoring me because I criticize the DCCU a LOT and I do so harshly. |

And one good Green Lantern movie [OA was the part I most enjoyed in the other one Green Lantern failure]. Keep it tight. Don't go the romance way. Keep it in space. Not much too ask. |

The film is a marvel (see what I did there? LOL!) of mediocrity. Have you ever heard the tagline for the original Superman movie? It was something like: "You will believe that men can fly." Well, this film will make you believe that Batman and Superman can be boring. Seriously, check it out--if nothing more than morbid curiosity. |

Re: The Batman (Affleck)
Reeve is still the best Superman.
Cavill is decent, and has the physicality, but Reeve when going between Clark and Supes, changed his voice speech patterns and speech beats, his stance, posture, even his gait. When you see interviews with the guy, you realise neither of his personas in Superman are the same as his own personal one. Great actor. |

Watch how he totally changes character in this :D

Cavill looks the part, and I feel like he could pull it off given the right material, but since DC is more interested into turning Superman into a moody brute just like Batman instead of his usual boy scout persona I just can't get into the character. I'm not a purist, I'll take a different look at Superman if it's done well, but god, he's just a miserable character in those movies, I can't stand him.

Really, a lot of what I disliked in Batman V Superman is the Superman junk. Superman is boring, Lois Lane is boring, Lex Luthor is just an annoying, rich Joker. The Batman stuff was actually pretty solid throughout, it just wasn't focused on enough in the movie for me to praise too much.

That's funny. Who is Yoda humping in that gif?
It’s little secret that the DC Extended Universe, the Warner Bros-owned comic company’s attempt at a rival to the mighty Marvel Cinematic Universe, is struggling. Whilst its three existing movies – 2013’s ‘Man of Steel,’ and 2016’s ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Suicide Squad’ – all performed well at the box office, none of them have won over audiences or critics the way Marvel have. Moreover, some of the future DC films lined up for production have been beset with behind the scenes trouble, most notably ‘The Batman,’ production on which has now been pushed back, after the film had initially been expected to hit screens in 2018.

Fede Alvarez and Ridley Scott are apparently in the wings waiting to be called up, and yet Alvarez has just been cemented to direct a remake of Labyrinth (good news on that is that Henson will be involved). Interesting. Maybe WB were meddling again. Will be interesting if Scott gets in on it. |
Re: The Batman (Affleck)
That makes me nervous. I really just want them to go FULL dark with this. They've already got THE BEST* physical representation of Batman. Now go the full hog!
*Yup. The best. |
Re: The Batman (Affleck)
I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or not but...
Martin Scorsese producing Joker origin spin-off
The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy.
Leto is not expected to reprise his role. Think of this as an elseworld story. |
Re: The Batman (Affleck)
WTF? This crazy.

Re: The Batman (Affleck)
Killing Joke by way of After Hours would be pretty cool.

Re: The Batman (Affleck)
Word out is Affleck is leaving the role of Batman as well.
Justice League will be his second and final turn as Batman. He's apparently walking away from the DCEU once JL is released. |
