Favorite Horror Film
So, with Halloween rapidly approaching, I thought it would be nice to have a nice little horror movie discussion. (This has probably been done before, but whatev.)
So, leave a response telling me your favorite horror movie, why it's your favorite, and just any other general comments about horror movies. I think Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho is probably still the best, but if we're going with personal favorites, I would say The Shining. Stanley Kubrick, of course, is a master of the shot. The cinematography is excellent (the shots of Danny riding his tricycle, the feeling of dread you get at the opening credit scene while looking at the mountain). Also, I like that the horrors aren't just there to scare you, but to make a point, which I personally think is something of a rarity in most modern horror movies. I also have a lot of respect for Wes Craven's Scream, though, because I can't believe a movie managed to blur the lines between actual horror and spoof horror movie so well. |
Re: Favorite Horror Film
Suspiria :love::love::love:
The cinematography, acting, direction, vibrant colours, amazing death sequences, exploration of witches, and the unbeatable soundtrack :love: |

Despite that, if you're completely unaware of the references I think it works well as a straight up horror film. |

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
Bram Stoker's Dracula American Werewolf in London Horror isn't exactly my forte, but I'm kind of a purist, I guess, when it comes to the classical monsters, night frights and so on ... |
Re: Favorite Horror Film
The Harvest
Awaiting Wolf Town Beneath |
I think i would have to say that Alien is my favorite horror movie of all time. It has suspense, so much tension, isolation, creepiness, and science fiction rolled into one movie.
After that I would have to say The Shining, and Texas chainsaw massacre. :) |
Alien (1979)
http://33.media.tumblr.com/b34ccbe65...ew0zo1_500.gif Creepy and well acted. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0n4jMasOWQ...s-download.gif The last 30 minutes. The Thing (1982) http://i.imgur.com/d1AE6ZE.gif Special effects yo. Halloween (1978) http://30.media.tumblr.com/49fb2f6bc...1o6_r1_400.gif Cinematography and music. It Follows (2015) http://38.media.tumblr.com/304ef8e2a...yehpo3_500.gif Cinematography and music. Odd that's a thing again. Those 360 pans are neato. Psycho (1960) http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lk...zkkho1_500.gif Norman Bates yo. The Fly (1986) http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l7...df0go1_500.gif Special effects. Deja vu I know. |

This was how my top 10 looked when I did my horror list a few months back. I'm not sure how much have changed when it comes to the top ten films, but I do think The Conjuring and the Insidious films would be just a little bit lower, though I still love them immensely, mainly because it's horror after my head. I also think The Fly would be higher, since my last watch of it made me love it even more.

An American Werewolf in London, Silent Hill, Pan's Labyrinth, Psycho, Dog Soldiers, Evil Dead trilogy, Dawn of the Dead 2004 remake (original is great as well) Night of the Living Dead, The Shining (desperately needs a re-watch though) Antichrist, The Thing and Underworld are the first that come to mind.
