Best bloody action flick
You know, when people ask you what is the most gory movie you've ever seen, you automatically think of horror movies like SAW or stuff, like that...but always going around the horror genre. That's I would like to ask you (yes, you) what is the most graphic, gory movie...that was an action movie favorite for you. Let me explain.
For me, it was The Raid 2 and The Raid: Redemption (they should've kept the original title though: The Deadly Raid). There is no bone that was not broken at least once in the action masterpiece that is The Raid 2. However, when I saw it, I wasn't disgusted by all the blood and violence. Don't get me wrong, if I enjoyed the violence, it's because it's a type of violence we hadn't seen before (except for Merantau and The Raid: Redemption) before there were no movies with that particular martial art: Pencak Silat. Anyway, this is only a thread, not a review, so I'll stop here. What was your best, bloodiest, action flick? |
Re: Best bloody action flick
It might not have much actual "gore" but Hard Boiled is one of the bloodiest action movies I've seen. Also one of the best action films ever, I gotta say.
I do agree with you about Raid 2, it was significantly more violent than the first Raid imo. Gotta also give a nod to Dredd (2012) that one had a ton of violence in it. Very good movie also! |
Re: Best bloody action flick
The Raid 2 best action movie of all-time

Thank you for your opinion, False Writer. I have to agree on the point that Dredd (2012) was a bloody good movie. I haven't seen Hard Boiled yet, be sure it is on my watchlist though. |
I was about to recommend the Raid as well, especially the sequel, until I saw you did so yourself.
Expendables 1 and 2, Rambo 4, Kill Bill vol. 1, Robocop (original), Shoot Em Up and Machete. All these are very violent but also very diverse in cinematic quality. But check them out and see if there are some you like. |
The first movie I think of is the great, original RoboCop.
If you want to look at an action/crime film, Rise of the Footsoldier is one of the most violent films I've ever seen. |

Machete...it's bloody but its not a ''good'' quality, if you know what I mean. I still wanna watch it though. |
Re: Best bloody action flick
Yeah RoboCop every time.
Dredd too... I've yet to see The Raid movies, but that's down to the fanboy in me preferring Dredd. What about Predator and Predator 2? They push into the horror genre, but you could say RoboCop does that too. |
Re: Best bloody action flick
Sin City isn't action exactly, but it has action sequences and is pretty gory at times. Stylised, but gory.
Talking of RoboCop, have a look at Verhoeven's other movies like Starship Troopers and Total Recall... |

On Arnie's vid about explosions, that was the movie with the most explosions in which he's an actor. Predator 2? Haven't seen it yet...and I don't know if I will. I haven't heard so much good reviews of that movie. I preferred Aliens vs Predator: Requiem |
Re: Best bloody action flick
AvP Requiem is underrated imho. It beats the first film by miles.
Predator 2 is a great film though. Also, without Pred 2, we wouldn't have AvP. Pred 2 was the movie that started it off. Danny Glover, Gary Busey, Rueben Blades, Bill Paxton and Maria Conchita Alonso? Yes please! |

Don't tell me you preferred Paul WS Anderson's movie over the Strause Brothers sequel?

Re: Best bloody action flick
Actually, I liked both, but the first one had too much CGI on the first act. The predators were CGI...AND IT WAS OBVIOUS!!! We could SEE it. Also I preferred the story in the 2nd one.
Btw The Rodent, I'll watch Pred 2 |
Re: Best bloody action flick
Anderson's movie had one good scene... where the Yautja jumps-spins and slams a spear into the Alien Queen... that was it.
AvPR had a load of decent set pieces. They even had Cameron's sound effects on the Xenomorphs and brought back Cameron's warrior Aliens with the armoured heads. Granted the movie was very dark in lighting, but it outdoes Anderson's almost kid friendly cartoon by miles. |

Re: Best bloody action flick
Have you tried Romero's Dead films?
Night, Dawn and Day are the best... I reviewed all 6 of them if you want to take a gander... |

Re: Best bloody action flick
The very last one, Survival, wasn't that bad tbh. The fifth movie Diary... ugh...
|
When I see the phrase "Bloody Action Flick", I have to admit that the two Kill Bill films were the first thing that came to mind for me as well.

Did you get to see Pred 2 yet?

But I'm just being a dick, I love both Raids, especially the original which is probably my top 10 action movie list. The Raid 2 went on for a bit too long imo. In terms of blood and gore, Rambo (the most recent one) has got to be up there, literally bodies exploding all over the place. |

Without wanting to hurt anyone who liked Rambo 4, I literally died laughing when I saw that movie. I mean, it's good but the action is too over-the-top. I gotta admit it was pretty gory though. Thank you for your opinion Watch_Tower |
Re: Best bloody action flick
I also was going to mention Kill Bill (but hey, almost any Quentin Tarrantino movie could be offered as well. He's kind of the modern Sam Peckinpaw when it comes to bloody violence).
Also: Robocop Braveheart (just because I still think it has some of the best, grand scale, hand to hand combat scenes in a movie). I'm just going to put War Movies in as a mention because there are many with graphic violence (Apocalypse Now, Hamburger Hill, Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, etc. Then there are Sci-Fi War Movies: Aliens, Starship Troopers) |

Punisher War Zone isn't a good film, but it's one of the bloodier action films I've seen. If you're just looking for cheap entertainment rather than a bloody film which is "good" then you might check it out.

It's not what I meant Iroquois, Rambo 4 was a good movie and a very graphic one. I didn't want to insult anybody or hurt anybody saying that it was too over-the-top. I saw the video you posted of Story of Ricky and that one is over-the-top also. I just gave my personal opinion on those movies. If I hurt anyone, I'm sorry

Re: Best bloody action flick
Raid movies - both , great action and bloody
Robocop - great as well Kill Bill movies also Nobody has Mention The Killer - Chow Yun Fat one of my favorites. Desperado, not real bloody, but great action . Everly - Salma Hayek film, was alot of gun play and bloody Blade 1 and 2 as well. I didnt like 3.. was corny.. Running Scared was pretty good, - the Paul Walker movie, not Gregory Hines. Ninja Assassin Shoot Em Up. - this was a pointless but fun flick, just for action and blood 300 |
Re: Best bloody action flick
I remember this Canadian movie called hobo with a shotgun... I still can't get it out of my mind. It was bloody but disgustingly bloody

Rambo, the first Kill Bill and various zombie action flicks come to mind.
|
Re: Best bloody action flick
Iroquois, I've heard of Story of Ricky for years but never got around to seeing it. Now I feel I don't have to. Thank you for providing me with some much-needed laughter with those scenes. :)
If I can add something to this thread about bloody action, I'll put in the Lone Wolf and Cub movies. Not a lot of gore, but there are geysers of blood shooting into the air for several feet and quite often. |
Re: Best bloody action flick
300 is pretty violent. Black Hawk Down is pretty much one giant battle scene.
