MoFo Fantasy Football 2015 - SIGN-UP THREAD
 

It's that time of the year again: MOFO FANTASY FOOTBALL is right around the corner.


For those of you who don't know, we run a fantasy football league here. This will be its eighth year, and it's pretty great. We play with 12-14 teams, we have a very high retention rate, and even though there's no money on the line, the league is highly competitive and engaged. Probably because I buy the winner one of these:

Maybe! But note well: this is a Movie Forums league, so while are welcome, heavy preference is given to longtime owners and MoFo regulars. And over the last few years we've been leaning more towards the latter, towards people who are around more now, both to help keep the league engaged and to give some new people a shot to join each year. So if you've never played but you're pretty active on the site, you've got a decent shot.

Also, if you don't make it, I started a money league last year that you'll almost certainly be able to join.

Just reply in this thread and say you'd like to play, and you'll be considered based on all the stuff I mentioned above. You may or may not get in, but there's no shame in asking.

We use Yahoo. I'd probably switch to ESPN if we started fresh, but Yahoo's pretty good and in this case it has all our league history already (and everyone is used to it/knows how to use it).

Last year I destroyed in my office league and let them all know from day one (and every day after) that I was going to win and that they should just give me their money at the start of the season to avoid any grief. I may talk the trash, and in all likelihood will win this league, so if you're not able to accept this you probably shouldn't accept me. On the otherhand, if you're cool with this, I'd be more than glad to join this fine league. That trophy will look great on my mantle, if I had a mantle that is. Don't worry, I'll find somewhere nice to put it.

Well, that's four new people expressing interest, and I'm not sure we've ever had that many owners drop out from one year to the next, so in all likelihood only one or two at most will be able to play. I'll keep you guys posted when we've heard back from most of the returning owners.

There'll be some kind of spillover league to make sure everyone can play with some fellow MoFos, though, one way or another.

If we end up needing a spill over league I am sure it could still be all MoFos. I never mind doing two football leagues. They are way less intensive.

TONGO usually runs a PPR league that ends up being about half MoFos, and I'll be running a small pay league again, so I think we'll find room for everyone somewhere, yeah.

I think there'll be enough interest for both, but we'll have a better sense in another week or two, for sure. :)

Bumping this to remind the people who haven't accepted their invites yet. Wanna get a clear sense of how many slots we have available in the next couple of days so we can lock things down and solidifying a draft date/any setting changes. :)

Last change for potential new owners to make their desire to play known, as well!

General update: we've got 10 confirmed owners, and I've got messages out to some of the others who played last year. Right now we have 4 slots left, with 3 returning owners, 1 past owner, and 5 new owners interested. So adjust your expectations accordingly!

But as I mentioned, there backup options available. Hopefully we'll have most of this nailed down before the end of the week, leaving us about a month for draft and setting stuff.

I hope im not a lone minority on this opinion, but I think we should give a shot to people that would post in the thread. Even Petey does a weekly matchup on occasion. That would be the purest of active leagues, rather than half the people post and the others take up slots better allocated to true active owners AND posters.

TONGO does make a fine point, and it's something I've mentioned upfront in the last couple of years' signup threads: while I want to give priority to existing owners, I don't think it should guarantee an automatic spot, particularly when we have lots of people who want to give the league a try and are around all the time. It's a Movie Forums league first and foremost, so I think it's reasonable to give some of those spots (since they're in such high demand) to new people who have a regular presence on the site, over people who've played before but otherwise really aren't on much.

That probably sounds a little harsh, but the alternative is a league that doesn't really reflect the site's members after a couple of years, and which lots of new members are stuck looking in on from the outside, which would be a shame.

Anyway, I'd say these days I try to factor both in, but each year I try to factor forum activity in a little more than the year before.

Okay, we've finalized the owners list. The new players this year are:

Welcome to the league, guys! :) All of the remaining 11 owners are returning from last year, and most of them have played the last several consecutive years. Off the top of my head, I think five of us have played every year (this is our eighth). So this year we have a really great mix of returning owners and new players.

To those of you who didn't get in, my apologies: we had an abundance of awesome MoFos vying for inclusion and it was obvious immediately that we wouldn't have room for everyone, even though I'm sure all would've been good choices. There'll be at least one spillover league, so you'll still have a chance to play (with at least several MoFos, along with their friends). I'll be in touch shortly about that to make sure everyone has a chance.

Please welcome our new players to the league! I'll be starting a thread shortly to discuss any possible rule changes from last year, and to talk draft time. We're tentatively looking at mid-to-late August, so there's not a ton of lead time. Please weigh in quickly about your availability!

Oh, and I forgot to mention this, but we'll definitely give any future tiebreakers to people who are in the spillover leagues, were on the de facto "waiting list" by not quite making the cut this year, etc.

Texans! I have no expectations for a while though... We don't have our franchise QB unless Mallett balls out and it doesn't even look like he's gonna win the starting job.
