Mad Max: Fury Road

How come no one talks about the upcoming next episode of the road warrior´s saga??

Max Rockatanski will be back and no one gives a damn. Damn!

Same here. I only know the title. It is one of my all time favorite series' though. I heard some rumours that Mel dies at the very first of the movie...and that the rest is told as if the Feral Kid was the new Max. I'm not so sure though....

Here’s some interesting news from the outback. It seems Mel Gibson’s production company Icon Entertainment will be producing Mad Max 4: Fury Road. Moviehole that is based in Australia is claiming this might mean we will see Mel Gibson make an appearance in the movie. Gibson told The Herald Sun about Mad Max: "Not with me, I don't think, man, I'm a bit old and long in the tooth for that number. You need somebody who can get around a bit quicker."

Mad Max4: Fury Road with star Tom Hardy (Bronson) and Charlize Theron. So far they are the only stars they have been attached to the movie. The projected budget for the movie is $100n million.

In an earlier post it was reported that Mad Max: 4 will start right after the last movie Mad Max: Thunderdome. I’m a huge fan of this series and think for Gibson not to at least make an appearance in the movie would be a HUGE mistake. I wish there was more I could tell you about the movie, but there just is that much info out there yet. Hopefully now that Icon is on board more will come out about the plot of the movie.

Re: Mad Max 4

Mad Max 4 needs to happen no matter what. I would pefer the movie instead of a cartoon. Even if Mel can’t play Max get somebody else who will Russel Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Robert Downey, etc… The movie is more important than whoever plays in it.

Plainview 01-08-10 12:15 AM

Re: Mad Max 4

How about starring someone new . I don't really want to see crowe, Downey, or Jackman play max.

These kind of threads just make me feel OLD!

I loved the Max films and I loved Mel as Max and to think he's too old now, that's just sad. :( 'Course Mel did actually go mad.

He is so lying in that clip about whether Mel is in it or not. Mel would have to be in it a bit. I don't know this Hardy guy at all and I'm not too fond of his hair! He'd have to change that hair.

genesis_pig 06-19-10 10:56 AM

If Mel will be in the movie, then why would he have a bit role.. If he is in it, he should be Max.. He is not as old as Harrison Ford was to play Indiana Jones or Arnold in T3.

I think Mel can still play Max.. but I doubt he'd be interested anymore, since he is busy with his new Viking movie..

& I hope this is not true-

Only Max Rocktansky should be Mad Max.

And about Tom Hardy, he was in Bronson, Star Trek: Nemesis (Picard's evil clone), Rock'nRolla.
He is a good actor and he keeps changing hairstyles & his physical structure..... He was really bulked up for Bronson and slim in Rock'nRolla

Abit of News, Mad Max has a start Date.

George Miller’s Mad Max follow-up Fury Road has had a bit of a storied history. The film was originally set to start production in August 2010 with stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, but after massive sets had been built and intense pre-production work was underway, torrential rains flooded the austalian desert that was set to be the film’s backdrop for the duration of the shoot.
Flash forward to this past March, when Miller gave an update on the project saying that they would restart pre-production later this year and commence filming early next year, with the film fully funded and ready to go. Now we have a solid start date, as Hardy revealed to Steve at today’s Warrior press day that the film will begin production next April. He said:
“we’re going to have to find somewhere else to shoot it, but it looks like it’s going in April.”
Hit the jump for more on Mad Max: Fury Road.
While Hardy wasn’t exactly a huge star when he was first cast in Fury Road, it’s safe to say that he’s going to be a ginormous draw for audiences when the film eventually hits thearters. Warrior is picking up some great buzz, and he’s currently filming his role as Bane in Christopher Nolan’s indie drama The Dark Knight Rises.
On the Fury Road front, all seems to be going according to plan. Miller went ahead and made Happy Feet 2 following the delay in production, and last we heard Theron was still attached to the project. Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class) and Riley Kileough, who was just cast in Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike, were also said to be starring in the film, but their current status is unknown at this point.
Fury Road will be a relaunch of the Mad Max franchise that rocketed Mel Gibson to stardom in 1979. The story takes place in a dystopian future, and Miller has been hard at work designing new vehicles and such for the update.

Miller Working On New "Mad Max" Trilogy?

November 30th 2011

http://www.darkhorizons.com/assets/0...jpg?1322683874

Get ready for three times the Hardy.
Filmmaker George Miller has revealed that the upcoming "Mad Max: Fury Road" could be followed by not one but two possible sequels.
Miller tells the Australian Financial Review that "We started with [Fury Road], but we then started to do a second story and a third. We've written the script for the second and almost finished the third. We never intended to, [but] they were part of the exploration of the characters."
Tom Hardy will step into the shoes of post-apocalyptic drifter Max Rockatansky made famous by Mel Gibson. Shooting on the new 'Max' is now expected to take place in Namibia in April.

Re: Mad Max 4

I hope they keep the creepiness of the original. I liked Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior better than the first but the atmosphere showed in Mad Max. The characters were weird and it appeared you couldn't get an ice cream cone without being hunted down by a group of odd-speaking criminal-looking individuals. Max was a hero, one of the only to do the right thing and actually help those in need, like his wife. But then we see an elderly lady even doing the same thing, and we don't expect her to grab a gun but she does. Max then truly goes vigilante by the end if he wasn't already and blows the whole concept of good and evil out of the water leaving us with a combination of the two, something we rarely see today. The sequel just had an overly worn plot, but the return of Gibson and, to put it bluntly, simply doing the right thing and helping others in a world where that doesn't seem likely, does more than expected for the whole movie. There's also a ton of more action than the original which definitely doesn't hurt. I guess they show doing the right thing is always the best thing, no matter who you are. I haven't seen the third film so I can't speak for it, but I hope this new film will also have a solid message delivered in a dark way.

Re: Mad Max 4

Still in post-production? No release date yet for Mad Max: Fury Road?

George Miller is keeping this one close to his chest...slightly ambiguous plot synopsis, a video or two of the vehicles during production, and a hazy photo of Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky.

It feels as though I have been waiting an eternity for this Mad Max reboot; eager anticipation was further boosted when it was announced that Tom Hardy would be taking over the plum role of Max--whilst admittedly he is wonderful eye candy it doesn't stop there...the man can act his ass off.

The Mad Max franchise and Tom Hardy. :D

Directed by George Miller (Mad Max, Mad Max 2, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Dead Calm, Lorenzo's Oil, Happy Feet).

Release date for the film is May 15 2015.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road

I said in another thread, can't remember which one but might have been my reviews after I did Lawless, that Tom Hardy deserves more leading roles.
He did Bronson and was immense in it. Lawless, Trek Nemesis, Warrior, Bronson, TDKR and Inception amongst others, I don't think I've ever seen him mess up a role regardless of how bad the film was or wasn't in general.

As Max Rockatansky though, I think he'll be awesome and with Miller back behind the camera like he was with the original trilogy, we might be looking at a reboot that rivals the originals.

Looking forward to this one.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road

This was exciting to me, but not so much now after seeing pictures of Tom Hardy as Max.

I would rather see a sequel starring an older Mel Gibson as Max. He's only 58 years old. He could still play Mad Max. Throw in another younger actor like Tom Hardy to join him, sure, but don't have someone else playing his character.

Apparently Mel might have a cameo in this -- maybe even as an older version of himself, I've heard -- but still. I'd rather see Mel Gibson in the whole movie.

I recently got Beyond Thunderdome on Blu-ray and I gave it a rewatch. Thought it was GREAT. I loved the movie when I was a kid (largely due to Tina Turner) but I was a kid and had a different perspective of the thing then... I watched it again a few years ago on DVD and didn't care too much for it... but on Blu-ray it was GREAT. Blu-ray, though, tends to make movies better. I think.

The Mad Max sequels are better than the original movie.

But this new movie... of course it's only a trailer, and I feel a little excited about it... but... I'm skeptical. Tom Hardy looks like a good replacement, though I'm not entirely sure. I did not like the fact that Charlize Theron spoke more in the trailer than him, for starters. He should have said his name after she asked him what it was -- at least in the trailer, not necessarily in the movie.

Annnnnddddd... the rest is too special effectsy for me and it just looks like more of the same. Not excited about "The Water Wars" or whatever's going on. Oh, their oil supply is limited? What's new? And Charlize Theron sucks with her bald head. And I already miss Mel Gibson.

I definitely thought the first movie was the best in terms of plot and acting; the first film however has a very dated, 1970s style - while you can still watch the sequels today without it feeling like you're watching a 1970s film.

Were the original films R rated? I don't remember any blood or graphic violence in them. Or any hard cursing or sex scenes. So if the original trilogy was rated R that'll surprise me quite a bit.

Critics are going crazy over this so far. It's got a 9.0 on Rotten Tomatoes out of 40 reviews which is unusually high.

I'm counting on this pepping me up after the Avengers letdown. I was getting skeptical, because it appears to be the same scene (cars/ pyro) on repeat. Good to see it is receiving such universal praise.

Max is always a small part of the whole picture in these films. He's a legend in the world and the story is always centered around the events that he stumbles into. He's never really the initiator of the events that make up the films, but he is the force that comes into the story that helps drive it to its conclusion.

I'm so freaking excited for this film!!!! :D

Just for the record - is this actually "Mad Max 4" or is it a reboot?

Yeah I was never really clear about that myself. I heard it's viewed as just another entry despite it maybe not being linked to the others. Kind of like James Bond films with different actors.

Well, as I understood it you could sat that it is both.

It's a sequel, in the sense that Miller didn't want to tell the same story over again, and since it originates from the original screenplay for a fourth film, written a little time after Beyond Thunderdome. But you could also call it a reboot, since it is mostly just a continuation and expansion of the universe, not really having a connection to the previous films.

Anyways, I'll see it friday, guess I'll know for sure how it plays out! :p

Does it really matter if it's a sequel or a reboot? Do people actually watch Mad Max movies for the story?

I watch them for violence, explosions and, most of all, crazy ass costumes and general insanity.
