Slasher Hall of Fame
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZb9AVz9RbE
Credit to nostromo87 for the excellent video. Welcome to the Slasher Hall of Fame. I haven't been able to gather a massive following for this hall of fame, but you know, that's alright with me. I think the enthusiasm of the members we do have will make up for the lack of numbers, and while we only number six strong at the moment, I expect we might be able to pick up a couple stragglers along the way. I'd accept up to six more people, so join or die! Now for the already committed members, go ahead and send me your nominations. I'm ready to get this show on the road. For what is acceptable for nominations, I won't make the rules for what a slasher is. Each person might have their own definition, and I'll allow you to make your own distinction. Just use some sense when nominating, don't get crazy on us. The one thing that you can't nominate is Psycho. Not because I don't think it belongs in a slasher hall of fame, but because it is already in our hall of fame. It won the very first one. Nominees: Alice Sweet Alice (Alfred Sole, 1976) Nominated by Ðèstîñy http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LjmKqUUgC5..._poster_01.jpg Halloween (John Carpenter, 1978) Nominated by Swan http://www.panorama-cinema.com/V2/im...7/affiche1.jpg When I was thinking about what I would nominate, I was trying to decide if I should nominate Halloween - the quintessential and best slasher film to date - or go with something lesser-known. But when I pictured myself nominating something else, I felt like I was being a bit... blasphemous. Not only to the slasher genre, not only because it defines a slasher in every inkling of its being, but because it is one of those films that defines me, as a person. It has been there for my enjoyment for most of my life and has inspired me in many, many ways. It has influenced much of what I seek in cinema - effective simplicity, visceral horror, intelligence, passion, and overall, a good time. So it's a very personal nomination. On top of that, though, I simply think it deserves to win the first, maybe only, slasher hall of fame. Christmas Evil (Lewis Jackson, 1980) Nominated by jiraffejustin http://i.imgur.com/ZgOLP57.jpg Okay, so hear me out. This is like an art-slasher or something. It's by far the most surreal slasher I've ever seen, and I think it's a misunderstood movie that really needs to be reexamined by cinephiles. John Waters is the biggest fan of the movie, in terms of fame x vocal support. He calls it the greatest Christmas movie of all-time. I don't really know what to say, it's a bizarre movie. I hope everybody will at least appreciate it on some level, because there's nothing else like it. But most importantly, the main character looks like a combination of Bill Murray and Tommy Lee Jones. Dressed to Kill (Brian De Palma, 1980) Nominated by BlueLion http://image.cine21.com/resize/cine2...;S600,600].jpg Terror Train (Roger Spottiswoode, 1980) Nominated by cricket http://img11.nnm.me/d/2/0/c/3/1889a5...43fb235472.jpg I decided to go with a prototypical slasher from when I consider to be the golden age for these movies. It stars that era's scream queen and my all time favorite butterface, Jamie Lee Curtis. I think it's a movie that fits in perfectly with this Hall of Fame, and I think everyone will enjoy it. Happy Birthday to Me (J. Lee Thompson, 1981) Nominated by honeykid http://img2.mtime.com/mg/2009/27/784...0fdbf25c03.jpg A Nightmare on Elm Street (Wes Craven, 1984) Nominated by nostromo87 https://pp.vk.me/c621526/v621526997/...xnDmAoFRNk.jpg Jason X (Jim Isaac, 2001) Nominated by Sane http://www.dvd-forum.at/img/uploaded...7883527300.jpg Jeepers Creepers (Victor Salva, 2001) Nominated by Derek Vinyard http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yxH0XkbmPz...spot.com+1.jpg Hatchet (Adam Green, 2006) Nominated by MovieGal http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a1jr46t8t8...er1-733175.jpg |

If Tucker & Dale vs Evil is a slasher than I'll join and nominate that. If not then the only other thing I would nominate would be Jason X but everyone hates that except me and Honeykid.

That's probably because "slasher movies" is more specific than just "sci-fi movies". The Sci-Fi HoF is equivalent to a "horror" HoF, where anything even remotely considered horror would be eligible. (The Sci-Fi HoF already has a horror movie, and two foreign language movies that were nominated.) This HoF is more like if the Sci-Fi HoF was something specific, like "space travel movies", "alien invasion movies", or "time travel movies". |
Re: Slasher Hall of Fame
Anybody else who is participating, could you please PM me your nomination instead of announcing it in the thread? :p
No sweat on the announcers so far, but I'd like the reveal to be like when you open gifts on Christmas :p |
Re: Slasher Hall of Fame
I only own 24 of those. Not that I would want even half, but there are a very few I should still get. I forgot all about my Road Games, Prom Night, Terror Train, and When a Stranger Calls. Also, all the sequels to my favorites.
|
Re: Slasher Hall of Fame
Great idea on Jeepers Creepers.
You are very accurate, Goodies. That is exactly why I am not into the Sci-fi Hall of Fame anymore. I need to go see what else has been added since earlier today. Sorry Justin! Do I still need to PM it to you? |

Re: Slasher Hall of Fame
I've probably seen somewhere between 20-30 of those.
|
Sent my nom in.
Some movies I considered nominating, and why I chose not to- The Midnight Meat Train (2008) This is actually a terrific movie that I think would've been a great nomination. I just wanted to go for something a little more classic. April Fool's Day (1986) I love this movie, but I think most members have probably seen it. Last House on the Left (1972) A big favorite of mine; I just don't personally consider it to be a slasher. The New Kids (1985) I would've loved to have nominated this because I don't think many have seen it. I saw it on some slasher lists, but like the one above, I don't consider it slasher.* Pieces (1982) This is a very good cult slasher, but it may have been hard to find and it's not made especially well. Bad Dreams (1988) I love it, but I'm not confident it would've done well. Hell Night (1981) This is a real good one, but I don't remember it well enough. |

Her film is Hatchet. No, no, it's quite all right. :) My film is called Hatchet as JJ said... http://wyrdstuff.com/wp-content/uplo...05/poster2.jpg Its a throwback to the 80's slasher genre.... with some fun killings.. It has Robert Englund (Freddy Kruger fame), Kane Hodder ("Jason" from Friday the 13th) and Tony Todd (Candyman). Oh yeah, dont buy the dvd..the film is on youtube... I will post the link once we start. http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lg...qoxjo1_500.gif Derek, did you seriously choose "Jeepers Creepers"? |

I picked "Hatchet" because of its 80's feel.... I seen many of the 80's slashers when I was younger but to rewatch them... well ... they arent my favorite.. I prefer late 60's and 70's horror... |

I bought Hatchet when it first came out just to try something new. Big mistake! I thought it was incredibly stupid. But what I really hate about Hatchet was there was a lot of press about it that seemed to be calling it "a new slasher classic" and basically because all of those famous horror movie actors were in it. They kept saying it was like a throwback to an '80s horror movie -- I didn't get what they were talking about. It was gimmicky and nothing special at all. It was like one of those "celebrities for doing nothing" -- famous, noticed, but WHAT FOR? I despise Hatchet. I haven't seen it in years, but I know it's still crap. OMG, MovieGal, I'm never trusting your opinion again since you picked Hatchet. What were you thinking?! You're supposed to gross people out, not bore them! |
My strong attachment would be to movies and music from my teens-the 80's.
|
Re: Slasher Hall of Fame
Sexy, after Cannibal, do you think Im going to pick something off the wall? No.... I think most people will laugh and get a kick out of Hatchet... because it is a cheesy 2000s version of the cheesy 80's slashers....
