Movie Forums Letterboxd Page

I've started a Letterboxd page for the forum. I started it mostly to post lists. It's gonna take a while but I plan to transfer all member lists to it (or they can do it themselves if I give them the login details.) You can also add reviews and update a communal viewing diary.

Following.

I have always wanted to make a thread where people could link to their Letterboxd profile, but with this thread it would be fairly appropiate to include them in the first post as well. But I don't know, just a suggestion... Just thought it would be cool to have like, "forums' letterboxd page:" and "members letterboxd pages:" or whatever. :)

We could transfer all the official forum lists as well, like the animation list, comic book list etc. I'm willing to help with some lists tomorrow if you throw me the login details!

I don't know if this will help you at all, but I have some of the "official" lists on IMDb. If there is like an import list function or something that could make things easier.

90s - http://www.imdb.com/list/ls056604218/

80s - http://www.imdb.com/list/ls059785013/

Comic Book - http://www.imdb.com/list/ls058132820/

70s - http://www.imdb.com/list/ls070431513/

There is an import function... But you will have to buy the Pro member package. :/

There is but you have to pay £12 a year to go pro before you can import lists from IMDb.:(

I'm a cheap bastard myself, I've been sitting manually and adding more than 1,500 movies to my 'movies seen'. :D took quite a while

I thought about whether or not I should as well, but decided I wanted to go in fresh, and by adding it manually I also ensured I was only adding what I knew I had seen. And I didn't give any rating or nothing either, because that have probably changed.

So yeah, my Letterboxd as new and precise as it can be! :D Still, I might go Pro some day if I find out I really want or need some of those features...

I finally updated this thing, so here it is:

Added my 100 list Slob and I am happy to be a part of your page. If your going to be ranking very mediocre movies like The Babadook 5 stars on behalf of the forums I may have to reconsider my position. ;)

Anyone interested in the group activities that the Letterboxd community do, here are two members you should know about:
russman - very popular member. He runs the daily quiz.
You can also join Naughty's Scavenger Hunt Challenge! - He runs a challenge every month, and the member who manages to watch and review all thirty films on the challenge list, wins a pro Letterboxd membership for a year. Have a go, it's good fun.

Added a MoFo hall of fame winner list so we won't forget. Debating whether to start a separate thread or not. We have one but it was Godog's and I fear it won't go on.:(

I was just looking at my old list on your page and you have Cocoon at 89 and King Kong at 87. I haven't seen either  . It should be South Park - Coon Trilogy and King of Kong. Not that I care I just found it funny.

We probably need to make a new thread for that and the MOFO Achievement thread. I've definitely moved on from her rejoining us, no sense in thinking she will just magically reappear here.

I log in every 10 days, rarely post films, was active for over an year then started to do some basic stuff because I saw multiple threads about Letterboxd. Still, I would love some followers and likes. :D

My name is: *insert drumroll* "GatsbyG"!

Though I already followed Frightened Inmate, since it could only be him! It could've been FI #1 though. ;)

Maybe there's more MoFos out there with a Letterboxd account since the last update. C'mon people, join in!

Just made an account on a whim. Don't know where it takes me, but I'm really digging the site's aesthetics. It must've been quite a programming challenge to make all of this work so well. Looks like the filters are a little bit more advanced than these on RYM. I haven't rated any movie yet, I've only set up my favourite movies (which appears to be just TOP 4) and started following Swan and MovieGal.

Although, I actually think that it was your favourite films list that led me to watching it.

cricket 06-04-16 09:07 PM

So what is that, not a forum but just a way to track?

Yep! Basically just a film-diary.

That's interesting. When I first saw it, my only thought was that I wouldn't cheat on movieforums, but maybe it would be useful.

Re: Movie Forums Letterboxd Page

 It definitely fills a different need. I had thought about adding something like this years ago, but now it seems unnecessary, since people can easily use both and they do a pretty good job of the tracking as is.

I took a look at Letterboxd and I see MovieGal is there. Kind of sad she ditched us for Letterboxd. I don't see what the big deal is about that site. Can't I just keep a list of movies I've watched on a computer file?

Re: Movie Forums Letterboxd Page

Okay, I rated my TOP 100 so far. Make whatever you want of it.

BTW, the search function is occasionally very slow. Also, I don't like that all films are always represented as tiles. Would be nice to have an option to present them as a minimalist list, too. Or maybe there is one, but I don't know about it?

Camo 06-05-16 08:11 AM

Re: Movie Forums Letterboxd Page

Haven't seen most of those, i do like most of the ones i've seen though. Interesting that Vivre Sa Vie is the only Godard unless i missed others, is that your favourite of his? I've only seen three from him that as well as Contempt and Breathless, Vivre Sa Vie was easily my favourite.

Mr Minio 06-05-16 09:09 AM

Yes, it is the only Godard in my TOP 100. I believe I have seen 31 of his films (be it full-length or short) and I absolutely loved some of them, but it is Vivre Sa Vie that I, for some reason, chose to be a 5/5 film for me, when I was compiling the list of my TOP 100 favourite films on RYM a week ago, or so. It's still one of these early Godards that, even though revolutionary and edgy in the context of early French New Wave, were still pretty classical and down-to-earth compared to his later stuff. Often on the edge of political rant mumbo jumbo, or artistical masturbation, Godard's films never cease to amaze me. He constantly tries to find the limits of cinema and the thorough process of him doing this is nothing short of fascinating. It's hard to find any other filmmaker so prolific with such a great variety in his works. He could make an obscure political film, thought-provoking movie essay and appealing French New Wave oddity in one year and all of these works would've been interesting. Here's a list of all his films with my ratings of them, so that you can see how many of his works I've seen and which ones are these. Also, which films I still have to see. I'm still left with dozens of these, since his body of work is huge.

Only 4000? Come on, I was expecting you to rate the entire database :(

I am very extremely disappointed. Hey at least I could make a few additions to my Absurdly Long Watchlist™ taken from your top100.

Edit.-

Come on... where is my God now.

Re: Movie Forums Letterboxd Page

Yeah, it's not even 4000, to be honest. It's 3911 to be exact.

I'm leaving some titles for my future viewing experience. This way I will still be able to experience some of Godard films for the first time in my life.

Well, it's Godard. He will probably be in his 150s and still making 2 or 3 movies per year :D

His worst movie. Lynch's Lady Blue Shanghai on the other hand is very good.

Re: Movie Forums Letterboxd Page

Rated all my 4.5 movies (except for about a dozen that gave an error and two not found in the database). I'm done with this f**** site.

BTW, I'm a beast of speed. RYM thinks I'm a bot, or something:

http://i.imgur.com/mvi9NG0.png

EDIT: Found out you can comment on other people's reviews. Already scorned seanc for his Werckmeister Harmonies review/rating.

Also found out you can't upload your own avatar picture. You can only connect your account to Twitter or some other stuff and then the avatar from these sites is automatically an avatar on Letterboxd. LAME!

EDIT 2: "One or more components on this page failed to load. Please try again." - this info appears every two clicks. What's wrong with this site? RYM is sooo much better. And Mubi would've been, if not for the lack of half stars.

My account - https://letterboxd.com/OKhalil/

It's pretty empty though, since I'm not really interested in rating movies or making lists, especially now that the school year is starting. For now, it will remain as a place to just chuck in the movies I see or seen.

Since the alternative is staying on an old message board where all the mods are capitalists, I guess.
