101. "The Bigger the Figure" by Louis Prima
Album Title: Breaking It Up Year: 1958 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtoMjMAfylY I first heard this song in the (mediocre) animated film Igor. At first I was taken aback by the lyrics, but over time I've come to love them. I haven't explored much of Prima's other work and this is the only one of his songs in my iTunes library and, therefore, the only one to make this list. 100. "The House Of Love" by Amy Grant and Vince Gill Album Title: House Of Love Year: 1994 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gxYxgtM-OU I remember hearing this song a lot when it was first released and just absolutely fell in love with it. I'm an atheist who generally doesn't like Country music so this song probably shouldn't appeal to me, but somehow it does. 99. "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston Album Title: The Bodyguard Soundtrack Year: 1992 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JWTaaS7LdU There once was a time when Kevin Costner was my actor obsession of choice. I used to have regular Kevin Costner movie marathons and my love of this song was an extension of that obsession. I still have a soft spot for Costner, though obviously I am no longer obsessed with him like I once was, and this song still has a place in my heart. 98. "I Hate Myself For Loving You" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Album Title: Up Your Alley Year: 1988 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPkTGm4RtVM This is a holdover from childhood. I remember having the audio cassette (remember those?) in the house when I was little and just absolutely loving it. I vaguely recall even making up a little dance routine to go with it. What can I say? I was 7. Don't ask me how the dance went, I don't remember. Or maybe I just plead the fifth. 97. "Ram Jam City" by Danny Kirwan Album Title: Second Chapter Year: 1975 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0mUNqlYvYk For those of you not familiar with Kirwan, he was a member of Fleetwood Mac from 1968 to 1972 - well before there was any such thing as Rumours. I've always much admired Kirwan's work on the 1972 Fleetwood Mac album Bare Trees (one of my favorites from the band) but knew nothing of his solo work until hearing this song on the little known compilation disc called The Fleetwood Mac Family Album. 96. "Que Sera Sera" by Pink Martini Album Title: Sympathique Year: 1997 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVbrycPKXZQ I first heard this version of the song earlier this year on my initial viewing of Mary and Max. It is quite effectively used in a very pivotal scene of the film and is largely responsible for the waterworks that scene prompts in me every time I watch it. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
I Will Always Love You is usually enough to ensure you don't get any rep whatsoever. However, you also have I Hate Myself For Loving You and I love that song. So, it was down to the rest and, for the most part, I like it. So, + rep. Or, maybe it's just that I like you. :D
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
I first heard that Louis Prima Song during one of the previous song tournaments. Great song.

95. "The Living Years" by Mike + the Mechanics
Album Title: Living Years Year: 1988 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGDA0Hecw1k Although I’ve been fortunate enough to have never lost anybody close to me until my grandmother’s death this year, I’ve always felt that this was a very beautiful song. I bought the album a few years ago and really didn’t care for the rest of it, but this song will always remain a favorite. 94. "As Long You Follow" by Fleetwood Mac Album Title: Greatest Hits Year: 1988 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROGEHq1WZqU Fleetwood Mac has seen many incarnations and many vocalists in its 40+ years of existence and, of those vocalists, Christine McVie is among my least favorite. Sure, I like a lot of her songs such as “Say You Love Me,” “Hold Me” and “Little Lies” but there are few that truly I love. This is one huge exception. 93. "Mama Told Me Not To Come" by Three Dog Night Album Title: It Ain't Easy Year: 1970 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkM7uWBjUrI I’m not sure where I first heard this song, but it was probably on one of the old vinyl records in my parents’ collection. I don’t think I really became aware of it however until I started listening to classic rock radio stations. Either way, this isn’t a song I regard highly because of sentiment, it’s just a lot of fun. 92. "Learning To Fly" by Pink Floyd Album Title: A Momentary Lapse Of Reason Year: 1988 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVhNCTH8pDs I’m not meaning to make this an 80s list, but somehow that seems to be the dominant decade so far. Anyway, I’ve never been a fan of Pink Floyd and can probably count the number of their songs that I like on one hand. However, this song has a sort of soaring, airy sound that fits the title extremely well and it’s a song that is easy to get lost in. 91. "I Don't Want To Go On With You Like That" by Elton John Album Title: Reg Strikes Back Year: 1988 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wyi9AbfUa1E A little bit sassy, a lot catchy and a great energizing tune that works well for working out. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
I don't know if I actually like Joan Jett's sound or if I am just mesmerized by her. Stone cold fox.
I will always love Whitney Houston, even if she didn't always choose the best songs to record. "Ram Jam City" is fun. That cover of "Que Sera, Sera" is chilling. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Pink Floyd (hilarious/great video), Elton John, Fleetwood Mac. Good stuff here, Miss Vicky.
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
I love Mama Told Me Not to Come too :)

"I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston Album Title: The Bodyguard Soundtrack Year: 1992 96. "Que Sera Sera" by Pink Martini Album Title: Sympathique Year: 1997 Great start to the list. These are some great songs. I love Louis Prima, and that song is one of his best. I'm pleasantly surprised to see Vince Gill make your list, even if it isn't one of my favorites of his songs. Whitney Houston has one of the best voices ever. She could sing the phonebook and I would listen to her. I love the Doris Day version of "Que Sera Sera", but this version was also very good. Keep up the good work. :) |

You put Pink Floyd on your list, therefore I win.

90. "Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)" by Fleetwood Mac
(Single) Year: 1970 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTvKaLW5bu8 What the **** is a Green Manalishi? Hell if I know. Peter Green was probably tripping on acid when he wrote it. But it sounds incredible so who cares. 89. "Rhythm Of My Heart" by Rod Stewart Album Title: Vagabond Heart Year: 1991 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVeZsG-9wVE I probably shouldn’t love this song, but I don’t care. I think I first took notice of it during a road trip with my best friend who put it on a mix CD and I instantly loved it. It’s great to sing along to, even if a little cheesy. 88. "To Be With You" by Mr. Big Album Title: Lean Into It Year: 1991 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdOz1EihRV4 More 90’s catchy cheese that is oh so fun. I don’t remember ever hearing anything from these guys before or after this hit, but the song has an enduring appeal for me. 87. "Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat)" by Digable Planets Album Title: Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) Year: 1993 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM4kqL13jGM I don’t recall ever hearing anything else from Digable Planets, but the snappy, catchy groove of “Rebirth of Slick” has always stuck with me. 86. "D.W. Suite" by Lindsey Buckingham Album Title: Go Insane Year: 1984 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAIdrbYiUB0 If you know me at all, then you knew Lindsey was gonna show up soon. Despite being largely responsible for the production of Fleetwood Mac’s biggest pop and rock hits, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has always had a taste for the weird and experimental. This bizarre tribute to the late Beach Boy Dennis Wilson from Buckingham’s second solo album is a good example of that experimental side and I frequently find myself replaying this a good half dozen times before letting my iPod play something else. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Digable Planets is awesome. Reachin' is a great album.
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
To Be With You and Rhythm Of My Heart kick ass.
|
The only ones i'd already heard of the first set was the Whitney Houston one and Ram Jam City, after listening to the other songs i'll leave it to later to try the second set.
Love 101 and 97 , also really like 98 and 96 (despite the nightmares that'll ensue because of it :p). Not a fan of 100, and I Will Alway Love You makes me feel sick because of how much my mum used to listen to it when i was younger. I've obviously heard "Que Sera Sera" songs just not that one. |
Jesus, MV, 95 is really depressing. I'd already heard 94-91 and i love them all great choices . 94 in particular :).
|
Thanks for 88, i forgot all about that song; i also like 87 and 86. Not a fan of the others even though i like both Rod and Fleetwood.
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Digable Planets. Did not expect that.
|
85. "Don't Drink the Water" by Dave Matthews Band (with Alanis Morisette)
Album Title: Before These Crowded Streets Year: 1998 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psIuidkkLjI I don’t like Dave Matthews Band. Furthermore, I don’t like Alanis Morissette. However, the eerie and haunting sound of this song had me instantly hooked. 84. "No One" by Alicia Keys Album Title: As I Am Year: 2007 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rywUS-ohqeE I probably first heard this song watching early morning VH1 programming or on the radio. I’m not a fan of Alicia Keys at all, but something about this song just really works for me. 83. "Have A Little Faith In Me" by John Hiatt Album Title: Bring the Family Year: 1987 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aYxMuLb3h8 The first time I remember hearing this song was in the movie Benny & Joon. Piano ballads usually aren’t my cup of tea, but I don’t think there’s any way to deny the simple beauty of this song. 82. "Tunnel O' Love" by Walter Egan Album Title: Not Shy Year: 1978 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9CQ7_GKSTg Walter Egan is one of many artists that I became interested in as an off-shoot of my Fleetwood Mac fandom. He’s best known for his hit “Magnet and Steel,” from the same album, but I think this song is much better. Also, sex metaphors are fun. 81. "Sexy Boy" by Air Album Title: Moon Safari Year: 1998 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC6vZOgYduk I first heard this song in an episode of the American version of Queer As Folk and instantly loved it. Beyond the constant repetitions of the title, I haven’t the slightest idea what the lyrics mean, but I sure like the sound of it. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
AIR?
You posted a song by AIR? I am so happy. I want to cry. You posted a song by AIR! |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
I've posted 21 great songs by many artists and all you care about is Pink Floyd, Digable Planets and Air.
:tsk: |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Just picking out my favorites of the thread. :D
|
80. "The Difficult Kind" by Sheryl Crow
Album Title: The Globe Sessions Year: 1998 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI58m3ZD00w I’m not a fan of Sheryl Crow, but she does have a few songs that really get to me. This one does so more than any other. There’s nothing particular exceptional about the vocals or the instrumentation, but the lyrics are wonderful. 79. "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas Album Title: Meet the Robinsons Soundtrack Year: 2007 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Fzy8p4h_eQ I’ve been a fan of Rob Thomas and Matchbox 20 since they first made it big with Yourself Or Someone Like You and several of their songs came close to making the cut. I don’t know what it is about this song that makes it stand out as a favorite but I often find myself playing it over and over. Its association with a certain favorite animated film doesn’t hurt. 78. "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" by Stevie Nicks with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Album Title: Bella Donna Year: 1981 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UD0c58nNCQ This song is, by varying degrees, responsible for my interest in a very large percentage of the music I listen to. Despite there being several Fleetwood Mac albums in my parents’ record collection, I had no clue who Stevie Nicks was when I first saw the video to this song sometime in the early 1990s. All I knew or cared about was that she was singing with Tom Petty, who had already established himself as my favorite artist. It wasn’t until I got a copy of Bella Donna a few years later and started exploring more of Nicks’s work that I made the connection with Fleetwood Mac . 77. "Walking Away" by Jonny Lang Album Title: Wander this World Year: 1998 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Olk7mNK-VyE I’m not usually real big on blues or blues rock, but Wander This World is a phenomenally great album and was released when Jonny Lang was just seventeen years old. Several of the other tracks from the album came close to making the cut as well and on another day they might have. On a side note, this has a Fleetwood Mac connection as well. That’s ex-FM singer Bekka Bramlett on backing vocals, though I heard her singing on Lang’s break-out single “Lie to Me” before I was ever aware of her involvement with the Mac. She also appears on several other songs on Wander This World and you’ll hear from her again in this countdown. 76. "Behind Blue Eyes" by The Who Album Title: Who's Next Year: 1971 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvzWkisqjn8 I’ve never cared much for The Who, but I’ve always admired the lyrics to this particular song. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
hey, finally a good song! love The Who and that's one of their best.
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
+rep for The Who, and Tom and Stevie.
I also like the Rob Thomas song. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Not sure if you've seen this...Jimmy Fallon, as Tom Petty, and Stevie Nicks singing Stop Draggin' My Heart Around. Fallon is awesome! :)

Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Yikes.
That's just so, so wrong. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Damn, I haven't listened to Jonny Lang for a long time. His album Lie to Me is very good.

75. "Man In The Box" by Alice In Chains
Album Title: Facelift Year: 1990 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71zsRJR_X4E My love of this song is a holdover from my adolescence. There’s nothing like a good testosterone fueled song for venting a little anger. 74. "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen Album Title: A Night At the Opera Year: 1975 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ9rUzIMcZQ An obligatory road trip and workout song and just a hell of a lot of fun. 73. "After the Love Has Gone" by Roy Orbison Album Title: King Of Hearts Year: 1992 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilA_un1gZNw Although I rank other artists higher overall, my favorite male vocalist – by far – is Roy Orbison. That voice had the ability to lift my spirits or break my heart like no other. He had many great songs, but something about the sad beauty of this song really gets me. 72. "Who'll Stop the Rain" by John Fogerty and Bob Seger Album Title: Wrote A Song For Everyone Year: 2013 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMU5s-PDBac While I love the original Creedence recording of the song, for me there’s just something magical that happens when two greats come together. 71. "Natural Blues" by Moby Album Title: Play Year: 1999 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KOQGU1W0tg It’s weird how amazing it sounds when you combine an a cappella folk song (Vera Hall – Troubles So Hard) with electronic music. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Moby is awesome.
Also, one of my fondest memories is going to a beach house for my grandparents 50th anniversary and rocking out to Bohemian Rhapsody with my cousin. We would walk on the beach and sing the whole thing. I miss those days. |
70. "Some Nights" by fun.
Album Title: Some Nights Year: 2012 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQkBeOisNM0 Just a fun, foot stomping kind of song. The beat works great for listening to while walking and the lyrics are easy to sing along to. 69. "The Bigger the Love" by Billy Burnette Album Title: Coming Home Year: 1993 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB_hGr5zNSk The son of rockabilly pioneer Dorsey Burnette, Billy Burnette has been making music professionally since a very young age, recording numerous solo albums and working as a session musician, touring musician, and songwriter for such artists as John Fogerty, Roy Orbison, George Strait, and Bonnie Raitt. He was also a member of Fleetwood Mac from 1988 -1995, which is of course how I became aware of him. This particular song isn't actually my number one favorite of his, but I do really love the lyrics and the overall sound of it and listen to it a lot. 68. "Rag Doll" by Aerosmith Album Title: Permanent Vacation Year: 1987 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv2vx57BYi8 My mom was a big fan of Aerosmith back in the 80s and Permanent Vacation got played a lot. 27 years later and this song still doesn't feel old to me. 67. "Nights In White Satin" by The Moody Blues Album Title: Days Of Future Passed Year: 1967 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rkgm1yGgbM I'm not sure where I first heard this song, probably just on the radio, but I've always thought it was haunting and beautiful. Though I have gone to sleep with the radio playing a time or two and been jolted awake by "Breathe deep, the gather gloom..." 66. "Handle With Care" by The Traveling Wilburys Album Title: Volume 1 Year: 1988 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8s9dmuAKvU Hands down the greatest band that ever existed - George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne. The entire album is fantastic and so is their follow up, Volume 3 but I listen to this song the most. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
+ rep for Rag Doll and Nights In White Satin. I really love Rag Doll.
|
Love 81 and 85 . Not really a fan of the others in that set, but i don't dislike them either.
|
Love The Who: one of their best imo. Don't like Sheryl Crow or Stevie Nicks at all personally. Just heard both of the others for the first time and really liked both, especially, Little Wonders.
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
YAY for "Nights in White Satin."
That song has been nominated so many times for Song Tournament, including by me, and always comes so close to winning but doesn't. |
65. "I'll Stand By You" by The Pretenders
Album Title: Last of the Independents Year: 1994 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5pECaW-VMI Chrissie Hynde's voice is just gorgeous, whether she's belting out rock songs, chanting about being "special" or singing sweet love songs. The combination of that fantastic voice and the lyrics to this song has always made it my favorite Pretenders song. 64. "Blueberry Hill" by Fats Domino (Single) Year: 1956 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQQCPrwKzdo A lot of artists have recorded this song, but to me this is the only one that matters. 63. "Wig In A Box" by Hedwig and the Angry Inch Album Title: Hedwig and the Angry Inch Soundtrack Year: 2001 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuItUNFw07g I love the whole soundtrack but to me this song is the most fun. 62. "Don't Come Around Here No More" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Album Title: Southern Accents Year: 1985 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0JvF9vpqx8 Southern Accents is my favorite Tom Petty album. Every song on it is a gem. Sadly most of the studio versions of those songs aren't on youtube for me to share so I'll just stick with this fantastic single. 61. "El Matador" by The Kingston Trio Album Title: Sold Out Year: 1960 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPCJV-o5BWA After finding out that The Kingston Trio were one of Lindsey Buckingham's biggest influences, I bought a compilation cd of the band's years with Capitol records. "El Matador" stood out as an instant favorite. I still love it the most, though I really like most of what I've heard from the Trio. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Rep for lots of them, specially Queen and Chrissie Hynde, she's always been awesome :)
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
+ rep for Wig In A Box and I'll Stand By You.
|
60. "What It's Like" by Everlast
Album Title: Whitey Ford Sings the Blues Year: 1998 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFNkU7UnzTU Absolutely adore the lyrics to this one. 59. "Beautiful Child" by Fleetwood Mac Album Title: Tusk Year: 1979 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeREyEVBhHU Tusk is probably my favorite Fleetwood Mac album and, while I prefer Buckingham’s contributions to it overall, this particular Stevie Nicks song has always stood out to me as one of the best of her entire career. 58. "I Want To Know What Love Is" by Foreigner Album Title: Agent Provocateur Year: 1984 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raNGeq3_DtM Just an awesome power ballad. I can't help cranking it up and singing along every time I hear it. 57. "Run Through the Jungle" by Creedence Clearwater Revival Album Title: Cosmo's Factory Year: 1970 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbI0cMyyw_M Creedence was a staple in my house growing up and I’ve always loved this song in particular. 56. "Save the Last Dance For Me" by The Drifters Album Title: Save the Last Dance For Me Year: 1962 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-XQ26KePUQ Although I probably heard this song many times before, I really took an interest in it after hearing it in the season 1 finale of the American version of Queer As Folk. |
55. "It Must Have Been Love" by Roxette
(Single) Year: 1987 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2C5TjS2sh4 I’m a sucker for 80s pop and have always thought this was a really beautiful song. 54. "Dancing Bear" by The Mamas & the Papas Album Title: The Mamas & the Papas Year: 1966 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSpRaCnwOVA After having heard "California Dreaming," "Monday, Monday" and "Creeque Alley" throughout my childhood, I picked up a best of compilation of the group. While I still love those more popular songs, the atmosphere of "Dancing Bear" immediately struck me. 53. "Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum Album Title: Grave Dancers Union Year: 1992 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRtvqT_wMeY I spent the first 2/3 of the nineties listening to alternative rock and Grave Dancers Union got played ad nauseum. I still really like the album as a whole, but the hit single remains my favorite. 52. "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes Album Title: Elephant Year: 2003 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0J2QdDbelmY That beat is irresistible. 51. "Lose Yourself" by Eminem Album Title: 8 Mile Soundtrack Year: 2002 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmXumtgwtak I'm not a fan of Eminem by any means, but I really love the energy of this song |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
White Stripes. One of my favorite bands.
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Great set. White Stripes had their moment with me but even after that moment ended that song stuck. Soul Asylum was one of my favorite bands in HS and that is their best song. I love Lose Yourself. I have a hard time liking Eminem, much of his content rubs me the wrong way, that song is really good though and the movie was under rated.
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
+ rep for It Must've Been Love, Runaway Train and Seven Nations Army. In the right, or maybe that should be wrong, mood, Runaway Train can reduce me to tears.

50. "Love Her Madly" by The Doors
Album Title: L.A. Woman Year: 1971 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x6vcXF8BzQ I'm not sure when I first heard The Doors and I've not really explored their music beyond the hits, but I really enjoy what I have heard and this has always been my favorite. 49. "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin Album Title: Top Gun Soundtrack Year: 1986 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx51eegLTY8 I'm a sucker for a great pop love song and this gem from the 80s is a long time favorite. 48. "Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell Album Title: Somebody's Watching Me Year: 1984 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YvA...=RD7YvAYIJSSZY What can I say? I'm a sucker for sh!tty but amusing 80s pop. 47. "Ready" by Cat Stevens Album Title: Buddha and the Chocolate Box Year: 1974 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzeIkbqmvLc I've never heard a Cat Stevens song that I didn't like and there are several that I love, but the energy of this particular song makes it great for listening to when on the move. 46. "Could You Be Loved" by Bob Marley & the Wailers Album Title: Uprising Year: 1980 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL_BcaI0i0w Yet another song that just makes me want to move. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
+rep for Bob Marley !
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
The first three are great. Not a fan of the other two. Still getting rep though because The Doors.
|
45. "Mohammed's Radio" by Warren Zevon
Album Title: Warren Zevon Year: 1976 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0FaVI9ae24 Warren Zevon is yet another artist that I took an interest in because of the association with Fleetwood Mac (that’s Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks on harmony vocals) but I really don’t think of him that way. He was one of the finest lyricists I’ve ever had the pleasure to hear. 44. "We've Got Tonight" by Bob Seger Album Title: Stranger In Town Year: 1978 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-icuakaLS-A Although I love Seger’s more rocking songs like “Old Time Rock and Roll” and “Turn the Page,” his softer songs appeal to me a little more and this one is just gorgeous. 43. "With Or Without You" by U2 Album Title: The Joshua Tree Year: 1987 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmSdTa9kaiQ Believe it or not, there once was a time when U2 was good – even great. Sadly those days have long since passed, but we still have the music. 42. "Hey Ya!" by Outkast Album Title: Speakerboxxx/The Love Below Year: 2003 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWgvGjAhvIw Totally infectious and fun song and an instant favorite. 41. "Battle of the Dragon" by Stevie Nicks Album Title: American Anthem Soundtrack Year: 1986 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cbwLRwPe1w I'm not much of a Stevie NIcks fan, but I've always loved the lyrics to this song and her voice still sounded good in 1986. Now? Her voice is awful. |
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
I'm really, really not a fan of The Doors, but that song is great.
|
A BIG + rep for "We've Got Tonight" by Bob Seger. I love this song. :)
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Lots of rep . Love Tusk too. Rep for The Doors, Soul Asylum, the Drifter and always lovely to listen to Cat Stevens and Bob Marley.
Never liked U2 |
40. "Float On" by Modest Mouse
Album Title: Good News For People Who Love Bad News Year: 2004 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTAud5O7Qqk I think I first heard this song on VH1 one morning and instantly loved it. I ended up buying the Good News For People Who Love Bad News and The Moon and Antarctica and really liked them, but the instant appeal of "Float On" stuck with me and it remains my favorite. 39. "November Rain" by Guns 'N' Roses Album Title: Use Your Illusion I Year: 1991 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SbUC-UaAxE My mom used to be a big fan of GNR and both Use Your Illusion albums were played frequently when I was young. This particular song always stood out to me as being exceptionally great. 38. "Drive" by R.E.M. Album Title: Automatic For the People Year: 1992 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQN7A6Vl1H4 Automatic For the People was another album my mom loved when I was growing up and it was a staple in my house. I love the album as a whole and while "Everybody Hurts" might be the more obvious choice, something about the atmosphere and instrumentation of this song always appealed to me more. 37. "Careless Whisper" by George Michael Album Title: Make It Big Year: 1984 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izGwDsrQ1eQ I don't know what it is about heartbreak songs that I love so much, but this one is just gorgeous. 36. "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats Album Title: Rhythm Of Youth Year: 1982 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM4okRvCg2g To me, this is the quintessential 80s pop song. It is absolutely ridiculous but also catchy and memorable as hell. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
I'm slightly surprised that Safety Dance isn't a little higher, MV.
|
35. "Shame" by Stabbing Westward
Album Title: Wither, Blister, Burn + Peel Year: 1996 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsxaoXHe9Xc This song hit shortly before my musical taste took a turn towards Classic Rock. I was 15, so I related a lot to this sort of angst and the obsessive lyrics. I like to think I've changed at least a little in the 18 years that have followed, but my love of this song hasn't. 34. "Mama, I'm Coming Home" by Ozzy Osbourne Album Title: No More Tears Year: 1991 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0siYUjV9UM Although I actually like his writing (his autobiography was a great read and I really miss his "Ask Dr. Ozzy" advice column), I've never been a fan of Ozzy Osbourne's music - except this song. I've always loved these lyrics. 33. "I Should Have Known It" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Album Title: Mojo Year: 2010 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_iBKacXIA4 Just some good rocking music. Lindsey Buckingham may top my list of favorite guitarists, but Mike Campbell is not far behind. 32. "Dust Bowl Dance" by Mumford and Sons Album Title: Sigh No More Year: 2009 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNLCKuz4EVs I love all of Sigh No More (though don't care for Babel) and my favorite track has changed several times but for the moment, this is it. 31. "Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche Mode Album Title: Violator Year: 1990 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0AKJMGxwpE I'm not usually a fan of the electronic sound of Depeche Mode, but the lyrics to this song won me over and it has long been a favorite. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment

Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Nice to see some love for "Careless Whisper"...I LOVE that song!
|
You've posted too much since i last commented, for me to say what i like individually :(. Goes to show it works both ways, slow down :p. All i can say is that i like and dislike at least one from each set ;). Great list so far .

I expect you to make up for your tardiness by making a voice post of your own, Camo.

30. "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson
Album Title: Thriller Year: 1982 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi_XLOBDo_Y If you had asked me for my favorite Jackson song back in the 80s or 90s, I probably would've said "Leave Me Alone," "Thriller" or "Smooth Criminal," but something about "Billie Jean" has just made it really creep its way into my favor recently. 29. "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" by George Michael and Elton John (Single) Year: 1991 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsKqMNDoR4o I'm a big sucker for duets and a big sucker for songs about heartbreak, add the fantastic voices of these two greats and you've got a song that's been a favorite since the moment I first heard it. 28. "Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin Album Title: Physical Graffiti Year: 1975 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvmuDH8cgG0 I am not a fan of Led Zeppelin and can probably count the number of their songs I like on one hand, but the guitar work on this particular song is just orgasmic. 27. "In The Ghetto" by Elvis Presley (Single) Year: 1969 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6am8V5KNJ4A Roy Orbison may be my favorite male vocalist, but Elvis isn't far behind and the lyrics to this particular song are really good. 26. "Unloved" by Walter Egan Album Title: Not Shy Year: 1978 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7Hzv7rrbEk The combination of the word play in the lyrics, the catchy tune and the background vocals of a certain Lindsey Buckingham has made this my favorite song from the Not Shy album – though not actually my favorite Egan song. My favorite is probably the reggae influenced “There Goes My Girl” from his 1999 album Walternative, but it’s not available on youtube and so wasn’t included on the list. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Elvis, Michael, and Zep.

25. "Things Have Changed" by Bob Dylan
Album Title: Wonder Boys Soundtrack Year: 2000 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9EKqQWPjyo I didn't care at all for the movie, but felt compelled to buy the soundtrack as soon as I heard this song. It's the best things I've heard from Dylan and one of the best things I've heard period. 24. "Midnight Wind" by John Stewart Album Title: Bombs Away Dream Babies Year: 1979 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xhu4kun1_W8 If I had made an Albums countdown, Bombs Away Dream Babies would've been on it. The whole album is superb but the intensity and atmosphere of this make it stand out as the best of the bunch. 23. "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails Album Title: The Downward Spiral Year: 1994 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaA4zHMnwDs Those lyrics are damn sexy and also kind of scary. 22. "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" by Nirvana Album Title: Unplugged In New York Year: 1994 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOZKz_sPM6U (Song starts at about 1:10) There once was a time when I was completely, utterly obsessed with Nirvana. I had cds, t shirts, and posters and then I burnt out and sold, gave away or threw away every single Nirvana thing I owned - except Unplugged In New York and this chilling performance is a big reason why I couldn't let it go. 21. "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins Album Title: Face Value Year: 1981 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkADj0TPrJA I don't care what anybody thinks - Phil Collins is awesome. I've loved his music since childhood. I love his voice, I love his lyrics and this particular song has always stuck out as being exceptionally great. When those drums kick in at 3:15, I get chills. Every time. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
+ rep for Nirvana.
|
Love "Closer".
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
I love that Nirvana cover. and "In the Air Tonight."
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
I love Nirvana's cover and Closer is one hell of a sexy song.
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
I have Face Value on vinyl. You have to be careful not to stare too long into Phil's eyes or you will find yourself in a trance.
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
My uncle told me just yesterday that he saw Phil Collins in concert once, and seeing him play the drums on "In the Air Tonight" was one of the best moments of his life. He called it "a night to remember".

20. "Gimme Shelter" by The Rolling Stones
Album Title: Let It Bleed Year: 1969 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb-JZPmiEOI The lyrics to this song are fantastic, but Merry Clayton's amazing vocals are what make the song the classic that it has become. 19. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney Album Title: A Concert For George Year: 2002 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rj4J6i_vw0w While I like the original version of this song, this tribute version has a much richer, fuller sound to it and I love Eric Clapton's voice. 18. "Waiting For The Miracle" by Leonard Cohen Album Title: The Future Year: 1992 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1EDKvXRKd0 I first heard this song on the Wonder Boys soundtrack and, while I bought that CD for Dylan's "Things Have Changed," I instantly loved this song more. I've since tried listening to other Cohen songs and, sadly, haven't been impressed by what I've heard. However, I listen to this song on an almost daily basis. 17. "Overcome" by Live Album Title: V Year: 2001 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpCa7Ay596M I’m not sure how it is that this ended up being the only Live song to make the cut – I’ve been a fan of their music since my early teens – but this haunting song has long been a favorite. 16. "Through the Walls" by Bekka & Billy Album Title: Bekka & Billy Year: 1997 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMmrtC7E61Y Bekka Bramlett (daughter of Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett) is without a doubt my favorite female vocalist. I'm not usually a fan of Country music but I love the Bekka & Billy album. Her vocals on this song in particular give me chills. Absolutely beautiful. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
The first two are truly great songs. Waiting For The Miracle is OK. It's one of those songs I quite like to hear, but then usually tire of before it ends.
|
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
I like Phil Collins too!
rep for While My Guitar Gently Weeps. it's a good version. Sad that George is dead , I liked him. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
Pretty good stuff, Miss Vicky.
*Forces you to listen to Autechre for 24 hours* You're dead! |
15. "Thinking About Leaving" by Dwight Yoakam
Album Title: Last Chance For a Thousand Years Year: 1999 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlYvYRfhUUI In my teens, my dad began an inexplicable (and thankfully now over) obsession with watching Country Music Television. I usually don't like Country and Dwight Yoakam is an artist I never thought would be part of my collection, but I've loved this song from the first time I heard it. But over the years I forgot about it. Then suddenly while browsing the iTunes store a couple of years ago, I remembered that there was one Yoakam song that I liked. I couldn't remember the title of it so I began searching through awful song after awful song until I found it. Now I listen to it constantly. 14. "Turn the Page" by Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band Album Title: Live Bullet Year: 1976 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2y6DfkYP3A I know I said earlier that I usually prefer Seger's softer songs, but there's just no beating the lyrics to this one. Bob Seger is a great storyteller. 13. "Ich tu dir weh" by Rammstein Album Title: Liebe ist für alle da Year: 2009 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=berzo1ocFkQ I remember hearing the bands breakthrough single "Du hast" back when I was in high school and not being particularly fond of it. But a year or two ago, the band was mentioned on another forum I frequented at the time and I got the urge to hear them again. After sorting through many interesting and bizarre videos on YouTube, I came across this and loved it instantly. Till Lindemann has an awesome voice. The sadistic lyrics don't hurt either. 12. "Not Enough Time" by INXS Album Title: Welcome to Wherever You Are Year: 1992 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhBOpcK3-Bk What can I say? Michael Hutchence makes me horny. R.I.P. sexy man. 11. "Hurdy Gurdy Man" by Donovan Album Title: The Hurdy Gurdy Man Year: 1968 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHV8Wzldlck I instantly fell in love with this song after hearing it in Zodiac and I play it ad nauseam. |
Some sexual choices here, Vicky!

More people should love INXS.
|
I'm way back so humour me.
Billie Jean and Kashmir in the one post you could have topped that with three of the Cheeky Girls songs, and it would still be one of your best sets ;). |
On the next set. Not my favourite Nirvana or Phil Collins but i like both, agreed on the Bob Dylan one though . Not a fan of Nine Inch Nails.

10. "Go Insane" by Fleetwood Mac
Album Title: The Dance Year: 1997 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQNxzaqIiKQ This is listed as a Fleetwood Mac song only because this particular performance is from their 1997 live album The Dance. This is actually a reworked acoustic version of one Lindsey Buckingham’s solo songs (Here’s the original, from 1984). In this live performance it is slowed down, stripped down and absolutely chilling. 9. "Mein Teil" by Rammstein Album Title: Reise, Reise Year: 2004 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ3kVtd2CCA This is another song I stumbled across on youtube. The creepy factor of the overall sound of the song goes to eleven for me and did so even before I knew about the inspiration for it. 8. "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind" by Lindsey Buckingham Album Title: Under the Skin Year: 2006 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVU7EZwYx-c While I much admire Buckingham’s prowess on guitar, I admire him just as much as a lyricist and a singer. I think this song serves as a great showcase for both talents. 7. "Time Precious Time" by Lindsey Buckingham Album Title: Gift Of Screws Year: 2008 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtkWhnKoai8 This song is pretty divisive among Buckingham’s fans, but I think you can see where I stand on the issue. The guitar work on this is fantastic. Crank it up. 6. "Cry To Me" by Mudcrutch Album Title: Playback (Box Set, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) Year: Recorded in 1974, Released in 1995 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9Em-78j_HA This bluesy, gorgeous cover of Solomon Burke’s classic only appeared on the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers 1995 boxed set Playback. With all due respect to the original and to the cover by The Rolling Stones, this version is breathtaking. |

5. "Need You Tonight" by INXS
Album Title: Kick Year: 1987 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrZZfaDp02o I remember first seeing this video at some point in my childhood – some point long before puberty and a strong interest in the opposite sex – and thinking to myself even then “Man, he’s cute!” To me, there is no song sexier than this one. The seductive lyrics and that voice are completely orgasmic. Add to that the video with Michael Hutchence in his prime (and singing with a rat on his arm, no less) and I’m in ecstasy. 4. "Keep Me In Your Heart" by Warren Zevon Album Title: The Wind Year: 2003 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KjRLq4uF4A Throughout his career, Warren Zevon seemed to have a fascination with death and often made (usually humorous) references to it in his lyrics. But in 2002, Zevon was diagnosed with mesothelioma and was told he only had about six months to live. Faced with the stark reality of his own mortality, Zevon headed into the studio and began to write and record his final album. He was joined by many of his friends and peers including Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, and Emmylou Harris. The album as a whole is a work of greatness, but “Keep Me In Your Heart” is his masterpiece. Warren Zevon died on September 7, 2003, a little more than a year after his diagnosis, at the age of 56. He was posthumously awarded two Grammys – a recognition he never received in his lifetime. 3. "Since You Said You Loved Me" by Tom Petty Album Title: Playback (Tom Petty and Heartbreakers Box Set), Released 1995 Year: Recorded in 1974 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-10ADzcQrw Written and recorded for a solo album that never happened, this stunningly beautiful tune was only released on the 1994 box set Playback. I know I’ve said this of many of the songs listed here, but it gives me chills every time I hear it. 2. "Room At The Top" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Album Title: Echo Year: 1999 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQFCF9KESic I recently read that Tom Petty considers Echo to be his least favorite album of his career. As a near lifelong fan I can’t help but disagree. The album as a whole is absolutely wonderful, but this song of loneliness and heartache stands out to me as the absolute best of his career. 1. "Cast Away Dreams" by Lindsey Buckingham Album Title: Under the Skin Year: 2006 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7_AK0xgzVI Another fantastic showcase of Buckingham’s writing abilities, this song about lost dreams and facing reality touches me like no other song ever has. |
Re: Miss Vicky's 101 Favorite Songs Of the Moment
That Warren Zevon song is very touching :)

"Werewolves of London" is more typical of the sort of songs he made in his career, though. Much of his music had a very apparent sense of humor to it, like in "Mr. Bad Example," "My Sh*t's F*cked Up," "Hit Someone (The Hockey Song)" and this goofy gem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXQDpW-kl8g |
