Who Do's Tattoos?

My father once told me, "Never get a tattoo. People who get tattoos end up in prison." I was always afraid he might be right and therefore never went under the needle.

So my questions are: Who here at MoFo has tattoos? What do they look like?

and

For those of you who aren't illustrated, have you ever considered it? Why didn't you get one?

and

Would you let your children get one? How about piercings?

Caitlyn 02-08-03 04:30 AM

No tattoo’s and have no desire for one either…I’ve always been afraid I would get tired of one and then be stuck with it… my ears are pierced, but that is all and I really don’t think all those pierced eyebrows etc. are very attractive… I see a girl around here once in a while that has over half her face pierced… not a pretty sight… :nope: .... As far as children, if they were old enough, it’s their choice but I think I would try to talk them out of doing anything major in the beginning…

Fugitive 02-08-03 05:03 AM

Never been turned on by body art.
Both my parents have tatts.
I just have one pierced ear that I did cos... not really sure why.

Yoda 02-08-03 11:25 AM

I'm not into either, as I can't think of anything I'd want on my body permanently. Certainly nothing I'd want on there enough to put time, money, and a little pain into it, either. If your body is a temple, then a tattoo is graffiti, and a piercing is hanging a picture with a nail on a really thin wall.

LordSlaytan 02-08-03 12:49 PM

My ear was pierced when I was 15, that is also the time I did two little tatoo's myself with a needle and india ink. I put a cross on the top of my left hand, and the Van Halen logo on my wrist.

I wish I hadn't done those, but fortunately I was pretty wasted, so they aren't to dark. Most people don't notice them unless they look directly at my hand for more than a glance.

BTW, my favorite "look" for a girl is the goth punk look, as long as they're clean and still feminine. Yum.

Sexy Celebrity 02-08-03 04:47 PM

No tattoos, never want one, but now I do find tattoos sexy on some people.

n7of9 02-09-03 07:23 PM

I HAVE 2

my first one under my tummy and to the left is an artistic "N" (my name is Nicky) that i designed after i had gone through a really tough time and was able to find myself again....i got it as a reminder of my strength and honour, to never again forget who i am

the second one i got under my arm is a "half heart"....it can either be interpreted as a breaking heart falling apart, or as a mending heart coming together....i have never told anyone which i see it as

i love my tatoos...much thought and soul searching went into both and i wouldn't give em up for anything (wanna see pictures :D )

MyRobotSuit 02-09-03 07:41 PM

Hmm, i've always pondered on having one, but I get really bored easily. I'd have to get something of my own design as i'd feel branded by anything else.

As for piercings, I've thought of getting the eyebrow done but as everyone I know has it done I feel I would lose my identity. I don't mind girls with belly button rings etc, or even nose studs, they're quite cute.

Sexy Celebrity 02-09-03 08:02 PM

I've had both of my ears pierced before, but I haven't worn earrings in a long time. I don't even know if I could put something in those holes.

n7of9 02-09-03 08:36 PM

i've also got 6 ear-holes (3 on each ear) and a tongue ring

i sound feral, ai? i assure you i'm not...just highly decorated :D

LordSlaytan 02-09-03 09:29 PM

True. Nothing crazy, though. Some women get something small around the base of their spine, though. I find that oddly appealing.

I sorta thought so, too, but my ex-girlfriend had one and, for the most part, it was so lightweight and surprisingly un-intrusive that I hardly noticed it. They're still strangely cool (I think it's because you can't tell if someone has one just by looking at them), but I don't think I'd ever get one, myself.

i know only too well...and you've either gotta have one or have had someone who has one to know just HOW sexy they are...mark my words everyone, if you get a chance to have a taste, do so for the life experience

yoda, you say an ex had one and you hardly noticed....dude - she didn't know what to do with it!!!!

LordSlaytan 02-10-03 12:06 AM

I think tongue piercings are sexy for the implication of sexual liberation that they portray. Also, oral gratification is better (was that PC enough?).

Yoda 02-10-03 12:27 AM

I suppose that makes sense (the former, I mean), though I think that was more true a few years back than it is now. They're becoming surprisingly common. Piercings used to be an "on the edge" kind of thing, but when it comes to girls my age, they're really not surprising anymore.

And yeah, it's PC enough. I thought it was implied from your original statement anyway, but didn't want to be presumptuous.

Hmm, I dunno, she was pretty "adept" with it.

Oh, s**t, my mom posts here, doesn't she? It's times like these those Jedi mind tricks come in handy.

Sir Toose 02-10-03 10:56 AM

Not for me.

I'm all about change and growing. Tattoos lock you in...

How can you know what you think is wicked one day/month/year won't repulse you in the future?

I can come up with, oh, a thousand examples of this that affect me.

If you like 'em get 'em though... I won't judge you on it. Some are really pretty/cool to look at.

I'm with you Cait. I don't have any tattoos, and only have the standard pierced ears. There was a coffee house I used to go to, but I stopped going because all the servers had multiple piercing's in their eyebrows, lips, tongue, nose. It turned my stomach to even want to order anything. If they had done it in moderation I might feel different but.....yuk.

No offense to anyone...but I definately don't find piercing sexy....sorry guys. But whatever floats your boat though. :)

I do have to admit however.....and I don't normally notice this kind of thing, but....

....once there was a guy who was standing right front of me with a tank top on...and had a beautiful tattoo that went from his shoulder down his back. It looked like a beautiful piece of art, a black and white etching. I kept sneaking peeks... For me, that's the only tattoo I have ever seen that was appealing enough to take another look.

I was going to come out with a smart comment here but I can't. I don't think there is any need for one.

Naisy 02-12-03 08:07 AM

Im far from into them, Piercings, ears can look Ok but as far as anywhere else on the body its just freaky, and as for tatts, i wouldnt want one but should it become a rule or something i would get a Lion on my back with a golden sword in the background with a crimson heart on the further background!

But I can say im that interested in either.

Don't have any, but I plan on getting one. I'm not into piercal expression, but body art intrigues me. I won't get any of those mysterious kinds that you can't tell what is with out pulling out a Chinese book :p

Anywho, I want the Angel one on my back. Something like that, or one with the wings spread up as if he's about to land.

On my shoulders, both of them, I want an angel. It's pretty much going to symbolize that my conscience is good...you know the cartoons, Devil shows up on one shoulder...Angel on the other. Yeah :D

I'd like one on my chest, but I might wait till my twenties for it. I lift and I've heard that tattoos can "stretch" with your skin. Hopefully not.

I might get one in two years, and I'm thinking about a lip ring or an eyebrow piercing...but you have to put like rust defeners on it.

LoL, i'd love to be there when you have that done. It's a totally new experience in pain, tatoo-wise...... i actually found it so new a feeling i was laughing ( pics of work linked earlier in thread)..... even though the needle only slightly pierces the skin, when it went down between my pecs it felt like i was being cut open! (... and that made me laugh!!!!!). Don't let what i've said put you off.... it's always different for everybody..... experience it, enjoy it.
I also lift ( if by lifting you mean live in the gym????)..... havn't seen any major differences in my inkwork as i "slowly" grow.

Yes, working out in the gym. I'm going to wait awhile till I get heavy...hormonoes slowed down

I don't care about needles, never did...never will. I get shots all the time, mainly allergy shots weekly. I learned that you shouldn't make a muscle. For all I care, as long as it it comes out good. YEAH!

I'm positive not get one that's too reveal, such as on my elbows down or even my arm. I wanna be a millionaire
;)

Cabbage Head 10-14-04 09:57 AM

Yesterday I was at Mr. Plumber getting a fixture for my tap, and the service guy was this really nice guy, clean cut, totally professional. ANd on his right forearm, where all could see was a tattoo of a heart, with the words "F@ck You" printed neatly inside the heart. I wondered if he had gotten this tattoo when he was a rebellious youth (although he wasn't much older than me) and had since found God and cleaned up. lol. Or maybe he really agreed with the sentiment reflected in the statement on his arm. Maybe he was an angry individual. All in all, I couldn't agree that the tattoo fit with his personality... It reaffirmed my personal beliefs about tattoos that yes, you may want a tattoo when youre young and stupid, but when you're a middle aged, middle class blue collar Eddie Punchclock, you probably won't want it anymore...

Nice tats, are they your own drawings?

chicagofrog 04-15-05 11:53 AM

i've been thinking like the last 7 years about getting one. i'm a sucker for wolves, and i know that if i get one, i'll get more, hence the delaying. at least three. calf, back of shoulder and inner wrist.
on the contrary, i'm not sure i like tattoos when they're the same and same places like everybody does/many do. like those at the back of a woman where the rump starts. not original, plus it disturbs the (total) nudity, which becomes impossible then.

The Sarge 04-16-05 07:18 AM

Wrong! Im 34 (middle aged) and middle class and love my tatts, in fact im still having more work done, so your theory is flawed.
Another point..... is it only young and stupid people who get tattoo's done? Reason i ask is that im quite well educated.

Caity...did you get it on your hip as you were thinking of doing earlier?

Austruck 04-17-05 06:32 PM

Although tattoos aren't my cup of tea, I have a multi-published author friend my age (mid-40s) who has multiple tattoos (still getting them every so often). She gets them to celebrate milestones in her life or when she has a good idea for something she'd like. She's a lot like me, only turned inside out. :) I could never pull off the tattoo thing, but it seems to work for her.

She's middle-aged, well-educated, successful, not physically attractive by American standards, and yet she makes the idea of tattoos marginally attractive.

Then again, we'll see how weird they look on her when she's 80. LOL.

Thought strange there's a thread for piercings but not ink. Suppose it's easier to post in Personal Pic thread but thought be nice to have thread of its own. Back when I was 16-17, I thought it would be cool to tattoo my girlfriend's name on the inside of my left wrist. Had to be my left wrist as I'm right handed and was doing a homemade job using needles, razor blades and India ink. Got the C for Carol, but then the area got all red and infected and hurt like hell, so I decided to settle for her initial instead of name.

Time goes by, Carol fades away, but the tattoo still remains. After awhile I hardly ever thought of it, and it would surprise me when another girl would ask me, "What's that?" The dumb and boring story about how I ended up with that small tattoo wasn't any fun to tell, so I came up with a throw-away response. "It used to stand for 'Carol,' I'd say, "but now it stands for 'Caution.'"

Ask a skin doctor some years ago what it would cost to have that tattoo removed. He quoted me a figure, but I decided, "Why spend another dollar on that witch." She became my first ex-wife, you see.

Stay away from tattoos, sport. Something you think is cool in your youth will turn into an unwelcomed haunt in your old age.

Yeah but there's a difference to getting something when you're that young and involving a woman to something, like music which can't break your heart or really give you bad memories when you look at it.

Plus you look ****ing cool and girls quim for them

There's nothing wrong with them, I just don't find them sexy at all and the more there are, the worse it is. In fact, it's almost becoming a fetish for me. There should be (probably is already) an burgeoning porn genre with girls with no tattoos or piercings. Sadly. it seems that not many young women would qualify.

That was me, too. I thought they were the stupidest things on Earth. Then, starting in late 2006, I just felt like getting one and I got it.

I've hated it sometimes. But right now I'm fine with it.

We'll see if I ever get a second one.

I have four that cover some scars left from an abusive first marriage (I escaped after four months). Now, instead of looking at the scars and remembering how I got them, I just see a yellow rose, a white bird, and two other small flowers. I've never regretted getting them.

I have a few tattoos and I love them, my newest tattoo is the Metallica Ninja Star I have it on the inside of my right forearm.

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._8005008_n.jpg

I have my sons name going down the inside of my left arm, its black font highlighted with Blue. On my right wrist I have my wifes name which she wrote on some paper and I got it copied and tattood on my wrist. On my right forearm going down the outside I have my daughters name in script and its underlined, then in the same script I have my wifes name on my left wrist under my sons name.

Im looking to get on my right forearm on the top area between my metallica star and my daughters name im looking into having a jason voorhees face or a Jason Voorhees torso arms and head with mask of course, and im debating to get some sort of flames and smoke going around the lower part of my right forearm right the way around my wrist, Im not going to get it over my wifes name that she wrote on the piece of paper when we were young :)

Im looking into getting a big shoulder tattoo/sleeve with a dragon with flames.

I love tattoos :D

Surely you can get some of those girls who love them to take photos of them...

...right?

On topic, I don't have any and probably never will.

Brodinski 05-19-10 09:36 AM

funny that Pyro made a thread on this, because my girl told me a crazy story last night. Her niece got this tattoo last week:

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/1944/crazygirl.jpg

She posted this on facebook. I'd show you guys, but it's in Dutch so you wouldn't understand anything she wrote. Anyway, this is what her message said: "Hmm daddy, this is my tattoo. Maybe you're a little angry now, but I really love you and in case you don't get it, the initials are yours and mommy's... and this is just really important to me <3..."

So instead of telling her dad in person, she announced this via facebook. Oh yeah, and she's 16. Oh yeah², her dad replied on facebook "April fools was last month..."

If I was her father, I would ground her until she turns 18 for not informing me about a thing like this.

I love tattoos :D

Or is it just that you have a hard time remembering names??? Just joshing!

However, I do admire the audacity of putting a wife's name in permanent ink on your bod. Had I ever started that, I'd have to X out the exs' names and put the current's name next in the list.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?

She gets a tattoo on her back talking about the true love between her PARENTS?!

To me, that's really Outer Limits -- especially since it's a big tattoo on her back. That's not something you'd do at 16 years old. To me, it sounds like a very insecure mistake.

Reminds me of Johnny Depp's "wino forever" tattoo. For those who don't know, it used to read "winona forever", but he had it changed after breaking up with her.

Hope the latter looks better than the way you described it, dude.

Definitely curious as to what said lyric is.

Her parents are actually divorced. This isn't the first stunt she pulled though. She got two piercings through each side of her lip when she was 15, also without her parents' consent. And she got her cherry popped at 12 by a dude that was like 20. Next up will probably be plastic surgery at age 18, I'm guessing her boobs or nose. Then, seeing as she fails school but is fairly good-looking, you guys can probably book her for the night when she's in her 20s.

I'm being harsh here, I know, but I honestly actually foresee her doing things like this. One time last year, me and my girl were going to this party and she and her (ex) boyfriend were gonna tag along with us. So we go to her house, where she had done her make-up and all, but hadn't changed yet. So she goes to her room, leaves the door wide open, takes off her clothes, then calls me "could you come zip me up?". That is some very fvcked up behaviour knowing I date her niece...

Anyway, back on topic!

Back off topic, part of me wonders if the girl in your current display picture is the same with the back tattoo. More likely that it's not, though.

Nope, that's not her.

Didn't Britney get plastic boobs at 16? I'd compare her more to Lindsay Lohan, but without the alcohol problem

...... I'm guessing her parents' divorced must have really hit her hard and she can't handle it. That is really sad. She needs therapy.

We'll see if I ever get a second one.

I basically decided to get my Cherokee Star because before one of the hurricanes they made us fill out a paper listing distinguishing body features for identification purposes... and the only thing I had was a couple of scars... later on, I ran across a really cool Celtic shamrock and decided to get it so both my American Indian and Irish ancestry were represented... and the double bow was kind of a joke thing...

If she wanted to, she could leave "True Love Forever" and find a really good tattoo artist who could change the initials underneath to something else.

I just realized Brodinski found a much better method than the one I was using to get around the automatic censoring of words when you post.

:rotfl:Oh, this story just gets better and better! She gets a big billboard tatoo on her back where anyone but her can see it. And it's a sentimental "love forever" message about her parents who are divorced! Man, that girl's elevator doesn't run anywhere near the top floor!

Might not be as much fun but wouldn't it be more effective to get a tattoo with your name and address and the message, "If found, please return to ...?" :) The smart thing to do would have your name tatooed on both arms, hands, legs, feet, the trunk of your body, and on your head under your hair--then, heaven forbid, if they find any part of you, they'll know who they're looking for in the search for the other parts. (Yeah, I know--I need to quit watching those CSI TV shows!)

According to those CSI television shows you don't have to do any of that stuff because those brilliant folks can solve any mystery in an hour (two if it's a real stump-er).

I'm pretty sure it's permanent since my girl told me her dad is way pissed off...

Maybe, but then it's still pretty bad... and I doubt she'll change this.

True. In her defense though, you could also interpret it as her loving her parents forever. But why would anyone tattoo on their back that they love their parents. You could also tell them. But that's probaby too unoriginal for her taste.

I may see her this weekend, as there's this annoying family dinner where my girl has to be as well and I'm joining her so she isn't bored to death (yes, she wears the pants). I'll probably ask tattoogirl some questions about her motives, probably bust her balls a little bit as well. We'll see

:rotfl:Stump-er! :rotfl:

When I started covering the Houston cop shop, all new reporters had to go down to the morgue and meet "Ol' Stumpy"--a male torso they had fished out of the Houston ship channel years ago minus arms, head, and legs. They'd had him throughly refrigerated, and the case still open.

There was another Houston case that did make one of the reality TV shows sometime back about this nut case that chopped up his mom (think maybe his dad too, but certainly the mom) and stored her in neat little packages in his freezer. As I recall, he kept her head in his freezer compartment of his refrigerator right next to the ice-maker.
