Worst Comedies

1 Attachment(s)
Chatting with coworkers, one of them was talking about how Dumb and Dumber is his favorite comedy. For me, hearing that was worthy of a good puking.

Ironically, this is kind of how I felt when I heard that.

Attachment 10869

My least favorite comedies, in no particular order:

- Dumb and Dumber
- The Hangover
- Anything directed by Tyler Perry
- Sister Act
- Elf
- Austin Powers
- Wayne's World
- This is Spinal Tap

I know Dumb and Dumber is a classic, am I crazy for hating it? And I will argue to the death that Spinal Tap is completely unfunny.

Re: Worst Comedies

That's my Boy-this is a vile, disgusting, putrid unfunny mess of a film. This film is complete garbage. Adam Sandler hit new lows with this one. This is about as funny as the Holocaust.

Dinner with Schmucks-god this film was painfully unfunny. Horrid

Hangover Part 2-this film was a replica of the first Hangover. This film sucked. One of the laziest sequels ever made.

A Haunted House-complete turd, even worse than all those scary movie films

epic movie, disaster movie, date movie, meet the spartans, etc. All these films are abominations.

Envy

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Starring Ben Stiller and Jack Black as two best friends, one makes millions off a spray that vanishes poo while the other becomes insanely jealous of him.

The.

Worst.

I remember really wanting to watch that when it first came out, upon Wikipedia'ing as I write this I'm really considering re-evaluating my life choices

Edit: I'm dumb and forgot to keep my post relevant to the topic, I'd have to say the worst comedy I've ever seen is Jack and Jill. You know, the Adam Sandler flick? It's garbage. Absolute garbage.

Lucas 08-01-13 01:35 AM

Re: Worst Comedies

Some more crap comedies:

Grown Ups-lazy,lazy,lazy. No effort goes into making this film. The jokes are stale and corny. Nothing to see here.

Jack and Jill-Need I say more? Have not seen it and never plan to, but I think we are all aware of how godawful this movie is.

The Sitter-this film was awful. Not funny, not clever, not unique. Just a tedious film that I couldn't wait for it to end.

18 year old virgin-awful film. This is basically a ****** soft core porno.

Project X-bad film. I didn't hate it that much but this deserves to be listed. This film is completely brain-dead,void of any heart or humor, is cynical and just complete garbage for the masses to eat up. This is a stupid film for stupid people.

Employee of the Month-dane cook is not funny..at all. Do not watch this crappy movie.

Okay, I disagree on SO many of these. I have, however not seen a single Tyler Perry film, nor do I wish to see one, so I cannot comment on their quality or lack thereof. And Sister Act was one of my mum's favorite movies so it gets a pass from me.

But I will defend This Is Spinal Tap to the death. That is a masterwork. It's so well made that people actually believed that Spinal Tap were a real band. MTV ran their video for Hell Hole for months before realizing it was a sham and then banned them from the airwaves. And this was with the obviously recognizable Michael McKean as the lead singer, too. The film is endlessly quotable, it takes the piss out of every rock band known at the time, from the Beatles to Kiss to Black Sabbath, and even Led Zeppelin. Some of the songs are even really great hard rock songs! It's one of the best comedies ever, in my opinion.

Bad Comedies?

-any of the "epic movie/date movie/disaster movie" series. Making reference to something is not the same thing as making a joke. Everyone needs to stop seeing these so that they will stop making them.

American Pie Presents: The Book of Love
Little Man
Soul Plane
White Chicks
Ghostbusters

Re: Worst Comedies

I have never understood the appeal of DUMB AND DUMBER either. I definitely agree with you regarding SOUL PLANE and WHITE CHICKS, but GHOSTBUSTERS? Seriously? You're entitled to your opinion, but I think that was a fantastic movie and a deserved classic. Actually, the first movie that popped into my head when I saw the title of this thread was NORBIT.

The Sci-Fi Slob 08-01-13 12:09 PM

Superbad is exactly that. Other bad ones are:

Meet the Parents
The Hangover
Role Models
40 Year old virgin
Horrible Bosses

Not a big fan of comedies by any means. But anything by Adam Sandler these are very very bad!

American Pie after the first one is ****.
Hate Hangover series.
Don't like Dumb and Dumber. They were good in a cartoon, not in a movie.
Not all movie i hate. Sacry movie 1,2,3 were good. After that were crap.

Re: Worst Comedies

Mean Girls (**** this movie!)
Dumber & Dumberer (for those who hate the first)
The Movie movies including Meet the Spartans and the rest of the parody movies that those idiots made!
Freddy Got Fingered
The Fred trilogy
American Pie and all it's awful sequels
Master of Disguise (you include Wayne's World, but not this piece of ****?!)
All the ****** Dr. Suess movies that try to be comedies
Elf
Everything from Adam Sandler except Happy Gilmore, Grown Ups, and That's My Boy

The Dictator-this film was painfully unfunny. Some okay jokes here and there, but it's nothing original or inventive

That's a kinky title, but I guess the movie itself is horrible!

Personal note: It would be easier to write down good comedy films and it would be quite a challenge to me, since I find most of them utterly pathetic and unfunny.

The film is also misleading as the "fingering" is a lie Tom Green tells about his brother getting abused as a kid. It is just a piece of crap and not kinky at all.

Deadite 08-02-13 06:38 PM

Re: Worst Comedies

I disagree with a lot of those, though I'm not a huge fan of them all either. Many were okay.

I liked Elf a lot. The first two Austin Powers were great, the third pretty weak. Spinal Tap is overrated IMO, but wasn't bad. Like I said, I found most of these (that I've seen) were okay, some I am quite fond of, but not many I'd consider particularly bad.

It has no plot! For something to be funny, you need plot, damn it! Not one thing in Mean Girls is regarded as 'funny'. It's just annoyance to the max with everything eather being sexual, loud, or obnoxious. It has that lier revealed cliche that i can't stand. It's ****ing terrible and I don't see how anybody could like this pile of *******. If you want a good high school comedy, watch 21 Jump Street.

Re: Worst Comedies

Well, if this thread exists, better be full of these sorts of films:

Howard the Duck

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...%281986%29.jpg

If Howard the Duck is supposed to be funny, then I'm supposed to be funny. Howard, an anthropomorphic duck from Duck World, or DuckTales (woo!) or whatever, travels to our world for some inexplicable reason and becomes involved with Lea Thompson. And when I say involved, there's an entire scene of sexual tension that made me want to be sick. Nothing happens for a good sixty minutes, and then some demon comes to "destroy the world" or something. "Hilarity" ensues.

The Master of Disguise

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...erdisguise.jpg

Dana Carvey is a comedian from Saturday Night Live, and was apparently funny on it. Here, he repeats "turtle" in a "Turtle Club" for a good ten minutes. Apparently its funny. It isn't. Did I say this was produced by Happy Madison Productions?

The Love Guru

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...-Love_guru.jpg

I don't get this film. I don't understand what Mike Myers was trying to do. With the Austin Powers movies (well, the first two or the first one depending on your preference), he crafted a brilliant satire of the James Bond movies, and the entire British spy genre. Here, Guru Maurice Pitka makes veiled references to Law and Order. Yes, its about as funny as Scary Movie 4. Scary Movie 3 is better.

Little Nicky

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ttle_nicky.jpg

Popeye's Chicken is ****ing ****. Little Nicky stars Adam Sandler, as a mentally challenged son of the devil. He has leave hell to get his brothers back who plan on creating their on kingdom of hell, on Earth (yes, Hell on Earth). He is accompanied by Patricia Arquette and a talking dog.

Year One

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...x-Year_one.jpg

If the character Jack Black plays in this film is truly one of our ancestors, then how did he breed? The same goes for Michael Cera. Basically, something happens in Black and Cera's village, so they go on an adventure, meeting figures from the bible along the way. And it's not funny.

Nah, the chick is Patricia Arquette, she's been in some decent stuff. The one from Dodgeball is Christine Taylor, Ben Stiller's wife, and I haven't seen her in anything really good. Other than retard comedies like Zoolander, which I love.

I actually like Little Nicky, I don't get all the hate. I'm not the biggest Adam Sandler fan, his first bunch of films I didn't like. But this, I thought was funny.

Oh man I liked Master of Disguise and Little Nicky not because they are meant to be a brilliant comedy but just to sit back and laugh at the movie in itself, I think both movies don't take themselves too seriously.

Another vote for "Year One". Me and my friends switched it off after 20 minutes and then snapped the DVD.

Deadite 08-26-13 06:15 PM

Howard The Duck is a pretty good comic book movie. The "demons" are like lovecraftian aliens from some alternate hellish reality, and they get here via the same experiment that accidentally pulled Howard from his own alternate reality.

I think only watching good movies, helps me even out my rating system. When you're constantly giving films 10/10, you eventually have to differentiate between them. I know it's a stupid reason, but at the end of the day you never have to watch films like Kazaam :p

Guaporense 08-26-13 07:30 PM

Re: Worst Comedies

I actually give 10/10 to about 80 movies I have watched. I could differentiate but then my ratings would be too rigorous and, anyway, true great movies cannot be differentiated by simple rating systems since they are complex and can be inferior or superior to other films in many different ways.

I don't know about you but I expect to live over a 100 years old. Given the progress of medical technology and that I have a healthy diet and do some exercising everyday. I expect to have still about 80 years of lifetime to watch TV. :)

Also, masterpieces are not obvious! You don't know when you will find one: I never expected to find a masterpiece in films like the PMMM duology. If you "love" only the movies that others tell you to love you are actually being masochistic. You never know which movies you are going to consider great beforehand so you actually have to watch bad movies to sort things out.

I think just about every "Movie" comedy (save some scary movies and not another teen) are down right terrible.

They jump from joke scene to joke scene and thats all the movie really is and jokes are painfully bad most of the time.

Atleast Scary Movie tied in lampoons of other horror movies into a single familiar story line that made it funny, i feel like the later and other ones try to put in too many jokes from too many movies and they fall hard.

My least favorite comedies, in no particular order:

- Dumb and Dumber
- The Hangover
- Anything directed by Tyler Perry
- Sister Act
- Elf
- Austin Powers
- Wayne's World
- This is Spinal Tap

I know Dumb and Dumber is a classic, am I crazy for hating it? And I will argue to the death that Spinal Tap is completely unfunny.
I totally agree with you regarding Dumb and Dumber, but I think This is Spinal Tap is brilliant.

Evolution was pretty bad. Julianne Moore was miscast, but that was the least of this movies problems. It had great talent on both sides of the lens, but it wasn't really funny. It was mildly amusing, at times, but it couldn't quite get over that hump, for whatever reason.

Anything with Will Ferrell, for some reason I can't stand him. The Dumb and Dumber movies are horrible to me. I can't stand the Austin Powers films either.

Housos Vs. Authority. How bad is it? I watched it a couple of days after watching Disaster Movie and thought that it might actually be worse. Watch that clip and imagine that level of humour being thrown in your face for 100 minutes.
