Top 100 of the master.

My Top 100 movies

As you may have noticed in my old top 100 thread, I said a few month's back that I was in the works of my new list. It's closing in on just a year since my first list, but since now living by my self in my new home I've seen alot more movies, some new and some old that totally changed my list. I've finally finished my list and ime excited to start posting it in a short while, enjoy.

It's on youtube, if you are into the kind of thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odH8scMjBVk

Taken is alright, I haven't seen it since it came out though.

The Descent is an excellent modern horror film. It's also claustrophobic AF.

Both films blow their subsequent sequels out of the water.

EDIT: Recently rewatched The Descent. It is claustrophobic, but nowhere as good as I remember it. It's rather average.

I loved The Descent. It's one of the most underrated horror movies out there. Some people don't like how long it takes for the lead characters to get to the cave, and one person said she didn't like how the caves looked. >_>
And have you seen its sequel? I have no idea why it didn't get wide release in theaters, because it was just as great, imo.
I totally agree with you on X-Men: First Class, as well. It's my favorite of the franchise so far.

Thanks. Yeah I've seen the Descent part 2, it was enjoyable although not up there with the first.

Reps for Avatar, Prometheus, and Taken. I'd give all three a
. The first two have amazing special effects. I desperately need to see The Warriors, but as it appears it was taken back off of Netflix I, I'm probably going to keep saying this when you make your next 100.

I found The Warriors pretty cheap on Blu ray on the Internet, you should have a look around.

The Hangover is a great flick. Due to what I've heard about the sequels, I've never bothered to watch either of them.
I didn't really like Dredd. It's one of those movies that everyone seems to love except me.

Hmm, Twilight is a very weird pick. Always wondered why is it hated, but again don't wanna waste my time on it. Oh, wait. I've watched 20 minutes of it in my class - somebody had it on its laptop. Never again.

That was exactly my view on it, I didn't want to waste my time. But it is really surprisingly good.

No, it isn't. :p

I found it way too melodramatic and some parts were just laughable, in my opinion. I never understood why the book series ever became a hit. Pretty awful stuff if you ask me. I still hope Robert Pattinson becomes a more serious actor (he's starting a sort of collaboration process with Cronenberg, already, which is a good thing), because I kind of like his presence and his acting isn't too bad either. I don't like Kristen Stewart, though.

I do like a very different kind of movies than you do. There's not one film on this list so far that I would rank among my own top 100 films of all time, which is certainly not a criticism as everyone has their own opinion. ;) Maybe the people who can find themselves more in your type of favorite movies, like Twilight more. :)

Some films I did enjoy of your list are:
Top Gun
The Hangover
There's Something About Mary
Avatar (hated the last part, though)

There are also a couple of films I haven't seen that might make the above list, but I certainly don't expect them to make my own top 100.

I will be watching the rest of your list to see if there is some more interesting stuff in it for me.

Masterman 05-30-13 09:02 AM

That's what's fun about everyone's top 100 lists, difference in opinion. Have you got a top 100 yourself?.

You and me obviously do not see eye to eye on Twilight. But hey, it is your list and tastes. You have plenty of other great picks, so who cares

Daniel M 05-30-13 09:44 AM

Re: Top 100 of the master.

Whilst I admire unusual inclusions, I'm in the majority that doesn't like Twilight, not because of its girl fanbase that loves it, but I have actually had the displeasure of watching a few films myself, the penultimate one (Breaking Dawn Part 1) was really dreadful, it was a whole film with her stuck in a building pregnant from what I recall :p

I have repped the other films I have seen so far, I think I like all of them. As a Brit I enjoyed The Inbetweeners Movie, not great, but pretty funny, Taken is an enjoyable thriller that needs a re watch, X-Men First Class I thought was decent although I don't love it as much as others, The Hangover I love (part II is very poor though), and then Cars I thought was decent as well, I definitely don't hate as much as others, although I prefer Cars 2 :)

No, I haven't. It's already hard for me to give movies a score, let alone rank my favorite movies in a specific order. ;p It depends too much on the mood I'm in.

I enjoyed Twilight because of the different approach it had to other vampire movies. Most other vampire movies are blood sucking horror flicks, this was a little different.

Even though I'm not a Twilight fan, I'm not going to bash you for liking it. I agree with what Gunslinger said about you having some good choices on this list.
As for your other picks potentially not going down well, here's something that might make you feel better: I loved Tuck Everlasting.

Re: Top 100 of the master.

I gotta say, Twilight was one of my favorites. It wasn't put on my list, for varied reasons, but it should have been. As far as the other 4 go...I am not like everyone else, I thought the one after Bella was turned was the best, most hated it. The others are also good, but I don't think that any are as good as the first. Now I want to go and watch all of them. ;)

Yeah, they're vampire films.

+ rep for Top Gun, as I bloody love that film and have it on my 100.

I know next to nothing about Twilight, so I don't hate it. I had no interest in it at all and had never heard of it until the first film was close to release. However, vampires sparkle? Um. No. No they don't. And even if they did, they don't.

BTW, should you ever feel alone and in need of a friend when it comes to Twilight, look up Mark Kermode's reviews/thoughts about the series.

I'm glad that someone agrees with me that Cloverfield is awesome. I haven't seen many found footage films, but for the most part I like what I've seen so far. Have you seen Rec? It's one of the best of the genre.

Brave move considering some of the people on this forum. Good to see you being completely honest with your picks

Not been a massive amount so far that I love but there are a few - The Warriors, X-Men: First Class and Face/Off plus a few I really like such as Walking Tall, There's Something About Mary and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Yes, there's an American remake called Quarantine, but everybody I know of who has seen both versions says that Rec was a lot better. To my understanding, Quarantine was made to look just like Rec shot for shot, with a few subtle differences thrown in. The biggest change they made, which caused most to favor Rec, was that the zombies had a different origin.

Masterman 06-02-13 02:42 PM

Well I've bought Rec, found it very cheap in my local DVD store so gonna try give it a watch tonight.

They tried being darker, yet at the same time leaned too much toward the comedic side with leg-humping robots and pot brownies.

I don't know if either of those would make it to my top 100, but they're good picks nonetheless. I know it isn't saying much, but Point Break is easily one of Keanu Reeves' top 5 best.
Also, I completely agree with your views on Watchmen. I didn't really like it the first time I watched it, but I believe that was only because it wasn't what I expected. I went into it thinking it would be more flashy and silly, knowing good and well that it would also be dark, but what I ended up getting was something much deeper. I definitely appreciated it more upon re-watching it.

I had a look over your list earlier today, I don't think I've seen many at all.

Cobpyth 06-09-13 02:56 PM

It's like your movie taste is sometimes the converse of mine.

I don't like Daniel Craig as Bond AT ALL (I still think one of the worst cast decisions of all time is to make Craig the new James Bond in stead of Clive Owen) and he's the only Bond I am not fond of. It's not because he's a bad actor, but his looks just don't work for the part. Casino Royale and Skyfall were pretty decent movies, but they weren't Bond films, in my opinion.

You are not the only one who is not a fan of Daniel Craig as Bond. Rocky IV however is delightful, as is any Dolph Lundgren movie.

JayDee 06-09-13 08:18 PM

Throw me in with the people who aren't particularly big fans of Daniel Craig. I don't think he's bad in the role but he just doesn't do anything for me, I find him rather bland. Not seen Skyfall yet though.
