Re: Riddick 3

Pitch Black is one of my favourites but I didn't think much of the second film at all, so I don't have high hopes for this new one but hope I'm wrong.

SpaceBiscuit 02-27-13 12:36 PM

Re: Riddick 3

Riddick 3 has a lower budget though 38 million (like the first film), while Chronicles was trying to be a Summer Blockbuster.

MPAA:
R - strong violence, language and some sexual content/nudity.

I think it will be good. But I can't really say I have expectations either..,simply because don't know what to expect :)
at all :p

I'm actually really excited for this. I'm a fan of the Riddick-verse (especially the video games), and those stills looks awesome.

Re: Riddick 3

Chronicles of Riddick had probably the greatest depiction of a "Space Army Invasion" I've seen on film.

Re: Riddick 3

I loved the Chronicles more than Pitch Black... I think it was just how it looked visually as well as the general story. It was more aggressive and action oriented and being THAT action movie guy from the 80's, I naturally gravitated towards it.

For 3, there are many things that I would hope to see - but I'm not sure the direction they're going to take in.

I do think that their smaller budget will help them get back to a bit of story roots though which will make the film better than both of the others.

Awesome, I didnt know they were going to go ahead with this. I hope David Twohy is at the helm again.

I like both Pitch Black and Riddick and have hopes for this one as well.

He is indeed directing the third film.

Re: Riddick 3

Vin Diesel exists as he does because of Pitch Black. Excellent film. I loved Chronicles, too, even though it was very different thematically and more operatic.

Riddick is easily one of my most anticipated films of the year.

ebrown 03-07-13 06:37 AM

They should make another video game instead of movie. Escape form Butcher's Bay is the greatest thing with Riddick in it.

Except for Pitch Black.

Nah, I agree. Escape from Butcher Bay is a better game than Pitch Black is a movie. Escape from Butcher Bay is probably the best game based on a film ever made, at least in recent memory.

Cannot wait for this movie, been waiting ever since Chronicles came out!

I hope in this one they really delve into the history of Furya and Riddicks individual past.

New teaser is up over here.

Masterman 04-08-13 12:27 PM

I think Pitch Black was fantastic. Riddick was okay but not as good as the first, i think it tryed to go a little bit to big. I will check this out still tho, nice summer of movies coming are way.

Proximity 04-08-13 03:34 PM

Re: Riddick 3

It didn't help that they tried to make it PG-13. Chronicles could have been much better if it didn't tone the franchise down.

Re: Riddick 3

Loved both Pitch Black and Chronicles in a 'they-pretend-to-be-nothing-more-than-they-are' kinda way, and have held on for dear life through the roller-coaster of halting production with eager anticpation of a release.

To be more succinct...can't wait!

Watch_Tower 04-10-13 10:46 AM

Re: Riddick 3

I think the Riddick series has mirrored Diesel's own stop start career. The early part of the century saw Vin Diesel viewed as THE air apparent to Arnie and Sly but with the release of Chronicles and it's subsequent box office failure, I think Vin Diesle sort of became the third best action hero in hollywood, behind Statham and The Rock.

I liked his return to Fast and Furious but this may just be his full resurrection, at least I hope so anyway.

Nacro2damax 04-12-13 11:48 AM

Re: Riddick 3

According to vin diesel , if 'RIDDICK' is a success then universal want 2 more films based upon the character . 1 about the underverse that is discussed in the chronicles of RIDDICK and another about riddicks home planet 'furya' . I'll welcome as many RIDDICK movies as possible I absolutely love this franchise

Used Future 04-12-13 04:31 PM

Like Pitch Black which has a tight suspenseful script, and great star making role for Vinny Diesel who's sadly never managed to recapture the same charismatic menace. The Chronicles Of Riddick was a major disappointment for me. Necromongers??? Necro...mongers. Nope, sorry.

If Twoy is helming and the script is decent then this new installment might be ok, but please, no more Necro...mon...gers.

they are saying that this is more like pitch black than chronicles riddick crash land on a planet and must fight a race of aliens native to the planet. pitch black is a fav to me i went to the theater to see it i didnt know what it was but i just pick a movie based in its poster and that was it. i have seen it multiple time now and cant wait to see this new one

New trailer...

Sadly, the second film went too far in one direction... this third outing looks like it's gone back too far toward the original.

First glance, it looks like a redo of the first film, just with a bigger budget.

Pitch Black rules.
Chronicles rules.
Riddick will rule.

This new film looks excellent, glad they have gone way back to how Pitch Black was, not keen on the second one so couldn't care less about another film that went in that direction. :)

I am indeed looking forward to this one. I enjoyed both of the Riddick movies, thus far. This one looks to be taking a step back towards Pitch Black in tone and everything which I like since Pitch Black was the better of the previous two.

Oo IMAX, will be seeing this on IMAX if it's shown in UK IMAX cinemas. :)

MovieEnthusiast 05-27-13 06:30 AM

The full trailer seems to look a lot more like Pitch Black than Chronicles, that has to be a good thing!

genesis_pig 05-27-13 07:47 AM

Re: Riddick 3

Trailer was okay, doesn't do much convincing on the plot front. Which is quite bold considering that it isn't that much of a successful franchise.
I think a videogame based on it was more successful than the movies.

Either way, I love Pitch Black. This movie isn't going to sell itself like the Fast & the Furious movies, it better have a lot to offer.

Masterman 05-27-13 11:17 AM

Looks alot more like pitch black, which is a good thing.

I'm sure I read somewhere that there are plans to make more Riddick's if this one proves to be a success.

I so hope so! Chronicles Of Riddick imo was plain awful. Looked like watching a live action version of He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe. Took away all the grit, suspense, and class of what Pitch Black was.
