Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
The Exorcist, I laughed my socks off at it. Proper funny movie.
Tremors is awesome. Love Tremors. Eight Legged Freaks is pretty good too but it's more of a parody of 1950s B-movies than an actual horror. Not really seen any other horror comedies though. |
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
^ You have got to see Tucker & Dale vs Evil:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...le-vs-evil.jpg and this is one I like a lot: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg I've yet to see the following film but it's suppose to be rather funny: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...a/Grabbers.jpg |
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
Yeah, I've read a lot of good stuff about Tucker & Dale. I'll order it next time I go to the DVD shop.
Oh Severance was great indeed. The foot cut off goes in the thing shot was nice. Looking forward to see Grabbers. Trailer is quite cool. :) |

Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
This question is the perfect parallel to asking me to go outside and point-out my favorite dog-turd in my yard. Kidding, mostly, a little, well, kind of, we've actually seen a compilation of enjoyable horror comedies. I think it's best that I elaborate on that, we've seen a compilation of horror movies with humorous antagonists because I'm not really a fan of things such as Zombie Land, Evil Dead, and so on. However, I did enjoy the humorous performances for the Chucky, and Freddy characters. Mind you, I recognize the same characters that I am praising went onto make a couple of blasphemies here and there, but ah well. As for Scream, which was listed by Film Maker, I liked them, but I didn't really find them funny enough to be considered a horror comedy, well, maybe the first one, but not as much the rest.

An American Werewolf In London Is Scream considered a horror comedy now? |
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
|
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
I forgot about Slither... more of a Tremors wannabe though. Modern day nod to the 1950s B-Movie.
I'd say Scream is more of a satire and parody of the slasher flick made by the guy who pretty much invented the slasher flick, which gives it an edge over the predecessors. It's also why I don't get Scary Movie and the sequels... a parody of a parody... bit of a miss hit really. Scream has lots of of comedy though... so I'd guess it's a comedy horror to an extent. |

Basket Case which has been mentioned. Also, Arachnophobia. I love that movie though it still scares me at times.
|
I second Tremors, this scene just nailed the whole movie for me:

Shaun of the Dead by miles. Scream can be viewed as a comedy so I'll put it up there.

I haven't seen it but what I've read it doesn't seem to be a horror comedy, but Dance of the Dead (2008) certainly is. Which film were you referring to? |

Definitely Bad Taste (1987)
|

Shaun of the Dead
Zombieland Evil Dead 2 I actually think Scary Movie 3 is good. |
No mention of Creepshow, really? No other horror-comedy can compare, every vignette is pure gold.

Hard to pick one favorite, but Tucker & Dale was certainly the best I've seen in a long time.

Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
This thread has just added more to my 'to watch' list.
I need to see: Jennifer's Body (2009) Student Bodies (1981) Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010) These are the best movies: Shaun of the Dead (2004) Zombieland (2009) But I need to mention "Sweeney Todd (2007)", one of my favorites. Why wasn't that mentioned??? |
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
Because it's a musical? Because it's crap? I don't know, it could be a number of things.
|
I don't know if it can be classed as a horror-comedy but i just will for the sake of this thread and say Heathers (1988).
|

I remember seeing it at the cinemas, not knowing it was a musical. The gasps when Johnny Depp was singing on the boat, I don't think anyone was expecting that. Strange that it wasn't advertised as a musical, they made it look like a straight forward horror in a previews. |
An American Werewolf in London Shaun of the Dead Evil Dead II / Army of Darkness They Live Beetlejuice From Dusk Till Dawn http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/1451/19462073da2.gif http://d2frhgt2bq49dg.cloudfront.net...f-the-dead.jpg http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0...ylt5o8_250.jpg http://d12xmiixiuwp0c.cloudfront.net.../they_live.jpg http://dw158ek45q5w7.cloudfront.net/...ies08_1612.jpg http://d12xmiixiuwp0c.cloudfront.net...-till-dawn.jpg Will have to add Tucker and Dale vs. Evil to my watch-list... |
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
Id have to say Young Frankenstein and Jack Brooks, Monster Slayer. The part where Robert Englund turned into a monster cracked me up.

Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
Oh, that's easy. It's An American Werewolf In London. Pleased to've helped. :D
|
This is tough, but if I had to choose it would be:
1. Vampire's Kiss 2. Army of Darkness 3. Shaun of the Dead 4. Dead Alive |
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
The Quiet Family: It's a Korean film about a family who owns a hunting lodge in a remote area, whose customers always happen to end up dying and they try to hide the dead bodies because they don't want bad publicity for their lodge!
Zombieland: Great film that contains a mixture of gore and laughs and some really good young actors like Jesse Eisenbergh and Emma Stone. |
Although I often find this sub-genre a contradiction in terms; my many favourites are as follows...
An American Werewolf In London The Return Of The Living Dead Innocent Blood Night Of The Creeps Re-Animator, Bride Of Re-Animator, Beyond Re-Animator From Beyond (very black in places) The Howling (lots of in-jokes - very black) Alligator (brilliant John Sayles script) Piranha (1978) (same as above plus Dick Miller!) Night Of The Comet The Day Of The Beast aka El Dia De La Bestia Frankenhooker Basket Case Eating Raoul TerrorVision Arachnophobia Tremors Ginger Snaps Dead Heat Braindead aka Dead Alive The Frighteners Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil Street Trash The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn, Army Of Darkness Critters Ghostbusters The Stuff (and pretty much all of Larry Cohen's horror output) Blue Sunshine Invasion Of The Bee Girls Sexykiller The Little Shop Of Horrors (1960) A Bucket Of Blood Killer Clowns From Outer Space Vampire's Kiss Dracula A.D. 1972 (Unintentional) The Manitou (Unintentional) Shaun Of The Dead Fido Count Yorga, Vampire, The Return Of Count Yorga Theatre Of Blood Blood Diner The Hand (1981) (Unintentional) Burial Ground aka The Nights Of Terror (Unintentional) Zombie Creeping Flesh aka Hell Of The Living Dead (Unintentional) The Case Of The Bloody Iris (Unintentional) Rats: Night Of Terror (Unintentional) Flight Of The Living Dead Young Frankenstein Whatever Happened To Aunt Alice? (very black) Horror Hospital The League Of Gentlemen (TV series) |
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
Re-Animator and Shaun of the Death would be my top two favorites out of the horror comedies that I have watched. Interestingly, none of these movies managed to make into my top 126 favorites list.

Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
Tucker&Dale vs Evil, Shaun of the Dead, Evil Dead obviously, do Ghostbusters count?
|
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
I'd say Ghostbusters kinda counted... it wasn't originally a family movie, it was intended to be an adult comedy with hints of horror and frights...
|
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
Evil Dead 2, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, The Cottage, Slither, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, Dead and Breakfast, Scream 4, Bride of Chucky, Hatchet, Doghouse, Drag Me To Hell (had me howling with laughter), Feast, Detention, Zombieland, Bubba Ho Tep, Idle Hands
Sorry but I like comedy horror a lot. |
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
Personal favorites are Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, Re-Animator, Idle hands, Evil Dead 2 & 3, and Brain Dead.
Anyone else watched Juan of the Dead yet? Had some laughs and some excellent zombie scenes, not seen that many zombies on screen without CGI since Dawn! |
I second, third or whatever to:
Zombieland Evil Dead Evil Dead 2 Army of Darkness Tremors Also The Toxic Avenger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27E4Qfj7iEY Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzEA5R0XHOQ and Dead Alive! (Or Braindead) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rC6WAAlNHt4 |
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
Tremors is amazing
|
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
I have never even heard of DANCE OF THE DEAD or JENNIFER'S BODY.
|
I liked the very first SCARY MOVIE but I didn't find any of the sequels funny at all.
Loved BRIDE OF CHUCKY...Jennifer Tilly was fabulous! Can't believe I had to come this far down the thread to find mention of TREMORS...great movie. |
Dead Alive/Braindead is certainly one of the best. Jaw-droppingly gory!
|
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
BrainDead is brilliant and so is Tucker and Dale Vs Evil.
|
Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
I thought Tucker and Dale vs. Evil was senseless fun of the highest order.
|
I watched Young Frankenstein last night and it was nothing short of HILARIOUS.
I'm not sure if I'm a big fan of the modern, more gory horror comedies. I still have to see the best ones from that genre, though. |
Return of the Living Dead

Re: What is your favorite Horror comedy?
"Repossessed" 1990
"Elvira's Haunted Hills" 2001 "The Raven" 1963 |
Guess what! It's Shaun of the Dead
Tremors is also quite good. For me it is some kind of little brother of Shaun of the Dead in terms of likeable entertainment and rewatchability. Coincidentally they are both more or less Horror comedies. |

I love Repossessed. If you have it, I would do a commentary.
Elvira's Haunted Hills, though... although I love her first movie... that movie........ well, run for the hills. Or rather, DON'T run for the hills. |

I have it on iTunes. Funny stuff

We could do a commentary sometime.
