Re: Your favourite movie from when you were a child?

The Wizard of Oz. It's hard for me to believe that you can find so many different positive and negative lessons in a film elsewhere. For example, one of its classics is never watch musicals, or at least, admit to watching musicals or even act like you know anything about a musical. After all, you know you hate music, so why would you want to see and hear it in a film? Crapacreepazoid, Already7!

Bluefairy 07-18-10 02:36 AM

My all time favorite movie from my childhood is Evil Dead:D

It was probably either Charlotte's Web or Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I still love both today.

Templeton remains one of my all time favorite movie characters.

and of course, I enjoy Roger Rabbit on a totally different level now than I did back then, considering I was all of 7 years old when it was released.

Can't think of anything outstanding besides Star Wars and My Neighbor Totoro. I didn't "get" Totoro back then, but it made me feel feelings I had never felt before. Mononoke did the same thing.

I haven't watched the original Star Wars trilogy in over 3 years now, I think.

Oh yeah, I also loved that movie Star Gate.

The Abyss as well. I still like that movie.

Aye, I should have said that. Absolutely. I own a copy and remember, as a kid, thinking that it was interesting and mysterious and encouraging me to think about it, rather than patronizing me. It still has that lovely, weird feeling of mystery to me, years later.

I also have the DVD and I'm a heck of a lot older than you! :)

Sinny McGuffins 08-01-11 04:48 PM

I remember some movies I used to watch over and over again as a child. I'd either get my mum to rent them multiple times from the video store, or record them off TV.

Films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Bugsy Malone, The Goonies, Three Amigos!, The Wizard of Oz, Labryinth and of course Star Wars are films I absolutely loved between the ages of 6 and 10, and still love to this day.

But there are some others I was thinking about today which I don't think I've seen in over 15 years. Films like Yellowbeard, Tom Thumb, Twins, Vice Versa, The Never Ending Story and Little Shop of Horrors. I wonder if I'll still like them? I'll have to try and watch them with my little brother and see what we both think.

Thundrcats the Movie.

Watching now is cringeworthy. The dialogue is horrendously simplistic, basically commentating on what is happening and ramming the episodes lessons learnt down your throat. However I still get a tingle down the spine when Liono does the Sword of Omens, "Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats HO!"

Home Alone,Terminator 1 and 2,Fifth Element(i think that is the name) and more...if cartoon count there are megatons of movies that i liked as a kid.

Dog Star Man 08-02-11 11:20 PM

I look back at it now and facepalm, but when I was nine I was a Batman Forever fanatic. I don't think that word does it justice. I saw that movie in theaters, practically every day, of every week it was playing... then when it was moving into lower-grade theaters, I saw it a few more times each week, even begging my parents and grandparents to drive me a few cities over to see it... until it went out of theaters completely. I'm serious, my parents and grandparents must have taken me to see that movie well over twenty times. Then in my mall there was a Warner Bros. store. There I bought t-shirts, framed posters, the soundtrack, books, key chains, $50+ statues, cards, you name it of my favorite character Two-Face. I was obsessed with him. Every word and everything in the world had to be about Two-Face.

This went on until I bought the VHS, (which I was emotionally drained waiting for it to come out as a kid), then when it finally did, I watched the movie a few times a day until the VHS gave out ultimately and the tape got stuck in the player. Both VHS and player had to be destroyed as a result. About a few months later did my fanaticism wear off and I was on to better things like Jaws, mostly because a mystique built up around not being able to see it. That to became a fanatic thing to me... but not as much, and nothing still on that level today, as my hyper-obsessive experience with Batman Forever.

The Goonies was always a great rainy day movie.
Star Wars gave me my sci-fi fix.
Indiana Jones, of course satisfied my adventurous side.
Clue was my go to mystery and comedy movie. (Also a better rainy day movie than Goonies)
But the ULTIMATE movie for me was Jurassic Park.

The Muppet Movie was a big favorite, and I'm a bit ashamed to admit I absolutely loved The Smurfs and the Magic Flute...

rlw1984 08-17-11 01:46 PM

Mine was "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" when I was a kid I loved how wacky and looney it all was and seeing popular characters such as Betty Boop, Daffy Duck, Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and all the popular Disney and Warner bros. all in one film together. Plus, Mel Blanc the main responsible for all those memorable characters we fell in love with long ago gave his last performance in this film. Being an lover of fine animation, I still love and adore this movie so many years later. I am 27 years old now and still find myself still laughing at the same jokes and hiliarous scenes that I did as a child. It's amazing how somethings you just never out grow. :D

One would be the Wizard of Oz because my mom would show it to me and eventually my little sister 10 million times. Others would include, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame and Old Yeller.

StrongReaction 08-17-11 04:36 PM

Transformers the Animated Movie - It was a hell of a thing when Optimus Prime died. Still chokes me up a little. Plus Orson Welles as Unicron how cool is that!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - I must have seen this 5 times in the theatre (which is alot when your 10).

Aladdin

Monster Squad - "Wolfman has nards!" Every kid growing up in the late 80's/90's knows that line.

The Goonies

The Burbs

Labrynth

The Neverending Story

Terminator 2 - This still ranks as one of my all time favorites.

I like when Joe Pescis character "Tommy" is telling jokes and stories to his friends at the restaurant in Goodfellas the movie. He starts to get upset with the owner of the restaurant who wants him to pay his tab of $7,000. Then he smashes a wine glass over the guys head and kicks him in the. Ray Liotta's laugh is cool too in that scene but I have other favorite scenes too. Thats my favorite movie of all time " GOODFELLA'S".
