Spaced any fans?
Spaced is a comedy series starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
http://www.showcase.ca/BLOG/photos/t...0/389x480.aspx Tim Bisley (Pegg) and Daisy Steiner (Jessica Hynes) are two London twenty-somethings who meet by chance in a cafe while both are looking for a flat. Despite barely knowing each other, they conspire to pose as a young professional couple in order to meet the requisites of an advertisement for a relatively cheap flat in the distinctive building at 23 Meteor Street, which is owned by and also houses the landlady, Marsha Klein. Also in the building is Brian Topp, an eccentric artist who lives and works on his various pieces in the ground floor flat. Frequent visitors are Tim's best friend, Mike Watt (Frost) and Daisy's best friend, Twist Morgan. The series largely concerns the colourful and surreal adventures of Tim and Daisy as they navigate through life, decide on what they want to do with their lives, come to terms with affairs of the heart, and try to figure out new and largely unproductive ways of killing time. Tim and Daisy repeatedly stress that they aren't a couple to everyone but Marsha, but despite this, romantic tension develops between them, particularly during the second series. The central comedic conceit of the series is that it portrays the rather ordinary lives of Daisy and Tim using overblown Hollywood blockbuster clichés. It is awsome and definatly worth a look, are there any fans already on here? |
Re: Spaced any fans?
I'd be a fan if I saw more of it, I suppose. It's showing once a week on ABC2 (essentially a channel where ABC puts all the shows it either can't fit - or refuses to play - on ABC1), and I caught the tail-end of it earlier.
Plus, it's not available on DVD around these parts either and I haven't got the means to import at present. Still, from what I've seen, it's pretty funny. |
Re: Spaced any fans?
Thats a shame dude, there is a new collectors boxset out and there are loads of extras on it.
Spaced rules it is a great laugh. |
Re: Spaced any fans?
Love the show, it reflects the style of their films as well.
|

Re: Spaced any fans?
Spaced is a fantastic show and theres a good interview with the cast in this month's issue of Empire.
I particularly love the crazy night out in Camden episode in the second season with the slow motion imaginary gunfight, recreated many a time in my own flat. |
Re: Spaced any fans?
I love the charector "Tyres" he is only in a few episodes he crackes me up, just the way he losses his temper then in a split second he's sat down smoking a fag. Also when he is dancing to the traffic lights Genious!

Re: Spaced any fans?
I just bought it from amazon, sight unseen. :p
I got tired of waiting because Netflix keeps pushing it down ("long wait") so I just went ahead. I love Simon Pegg, so I'm willing to gamble. |
Re: Spaced any fans?
Just got the series recently in the mail. I have watched a couple, which I liked quite a bit. I will watch more and report back!

Re: Spaced any fans?
awsome dude.

Re: Spaced any fans?
Oh my god. My son and I spent the weekend watching these. He's seen them all, I have two more to go.
The paintballing episode of the first year was hysterical. When Nick Frost spits out paint, I thought I would die laughing. And another bit I loved was the oregano/pot/chicken stew bit. What a great show. As I understand it, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright are teaming up again for the third part of their "trilogy" (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz being the first two). I. can't. wait. |
Re: Spaced any fans?
Tramp man I so agree with that, the paint balling episode was the best one ever.
Pegg and Frost are a fantastic team. |

Yeah they are teaming up agin in another film and I really cannot wait to see it. |
Re: Spaced any fans?
I bought the box set the other day on a whim because it seemed pretty cheap at $29.99 and I had heard so many good things about it. Also, you know, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright and Jessica Hynes are pretty funny people. Anyway, I was not disappointed in the least. In terms of sheer rewatchability, I'd say this is one of the finest television series ever. I get the feeling it's one of those deals where I'll pick up on something new every time I revisit it. Really, really great stuff. I can't decide if I liked series one or two better, though.

Re: Spaced any fans?
I love Spaced and it is supprising how many people who havent seen it, I mention it to them and demand that they get it or borrow it and they all say it amazing! lol

Re: Spaced any fans?
Spaced is brilliant. A great series for movie fans with all the film references. A friend of mine showed me how to get the subtitles to show you all the movie references although its been a while since I watched it so I can't remember how...
A definite highlight for me was the episode where the go to rescue the dog and they all have Star Wars code names. Genius. :D I love surreal Brit comedy :) |
Re: Spaced any fans?
I love spaced , i'm working on getting the dvd's currently.
|
Re: Spaced any fans?
did i already post in this thread? i can't remember, and can't be bothered to check.
but Spaced is probably my 2nd favorite show ever, [Six Feet Under being first!] and i own the Season 1 + 2 pack thingy. 'sounds a little hard to swallow.' |
Re: Spaced any fans?
Doesn't the 'boxset' released recently over there have commentaries by Quentin Tarantino and other annoying sods?
Spaced if fantastic, but Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg have become increasingly obnoxious. They need Jessica to add warmth to their scripts. |
Re: Spaced any fans?
Since my last post in this thread, the DVD boxset has been released and naturally I picked it up (at A$40, which is a decent enough price I guess). I have since powered through every episode at least once, and am in the process of rewatching them with the Homage-O-Meter turned on (and then I'll try the commentaries).
In short, I think I have a new favourite show. Happycyclist - yes, they have commentaries by annoying sods. Damned if I'm not going to listen to them, though. |
Re: Spaced any fans?
Awsome glad you like it, I do love the charector Tyres he is insane.
|
Re: Spaced any fans?
Literally. Tough to figure out which aspect of him is funnier, the dancing to everyday sounds or the "FAHKEN MOOD SWINGS".
|
Re: Spaced any fans?
"You're a writer In other words you're on the dole."
|
Re: Spaced any fans?
I rewatched both series recently and it is still genious everytime I wach it lol.
When tyres is dancing to the traffic lights is the best, cracks me up everytime. |
Re: Spaced any fans?
So glad I bought the DVD's...
|
Re: Spaced any fans?
Spaced is a great comedy but not that well know I have found which is a crime.
|
Re: Spaced any fans?
Where is there a Spaced boxset for $30? (Maybe that's not in US dollars?) It costs $60 where I live, which is why I didn't buy it yet. I was able to watch the series online before it came out here, and would love to see the commentary etc., and be able to lend it out.
|
Re: Spaced any fans?
Spoiler warning, obviously....
If you've got the boxset with all the extras then doubtless you've seen this, but if like me you've only seen it on tv or ordinary dvds, then you may not have and you absolutely must see this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTkmeeKRnrY Why don't they call her Leia...? :) My inner fangirl is made happy. Who says you can't have happy endings in comedy shows? Add this to the Office Christmas Special and that makes 2 out of my 3 favourite comedy should-be-couples living happily ever after... |

Nobody says you can't have happy endings on comedy shows, but it's better if you don't. I never wanted Tim and Daisy to end up together, although if they ended up doing a third series it would be inevitable - which is part of why I don't want to see a third series. |
Re: Spaced any fans?
They'll never do a third series now. And I don't think they should, it's been too long.
And when I said 'you can't' have romantic endings, I meant what you said, that people think it's better if you don't. I don't see why not, if it can stay funny. Not if it goes all mushy and Friends-like and race-to-the-airport silly. But don't you ever want characters to end up together? Or is that just a girl thing...? |
Re: Spaced any fans?
Yeah, in the same way that I wanted Wile E. Coyote to catch the Road Runner or wanted Beavis and Butt-head to score with chicks.
|
Re: Spaced any fans?
I did want Wile E. Coyote to catch the Road Runner. And Tom to catch Jerry...
I know that such things happening would mean the end of the formula, and the same applies to characters getting together, especially if it ended a long running ust. But if it was the end of the show anyway, would that matter? Why shouldn't the formula be disrupted in the final episode; if it's not carrying on, the status quo doesn't need to be restored. Like Del Boy and Rodney becoming millionaires at the end of Only Fools and Horses. That worked as an ending. The less said about the attempts to carry on after that, the better. But as an ending it worked. |
Re: Spaced any fans?
Must make sense to the writers who didn't feel like compromising their characters or the reality of the show they'd put together. Although in that case, why bother trying to build up the tension between Tim and Daisy at all if it's not going to be resolved? At least in the examples mentioned, they're fairly static and you know that nothing's really going to change (or at least not in the way you'd expect - I remember watching a feature-length Tom and Jerry movie where they teamed up against a common enemy, but then again this same movie had them talking as well so yeah, kind of sketchy example).
So yeah, I don't know what the point of that was. Maybe some cognitive dissonance on Simon and Jessica's parts. |

Re: Spaced any fans?
I thought they never wanted to make a third series in the first place - fans just seem to demand it.
