First Ever DVD's

I just purchased my first ever DVD's and three of the four of them have great Special Features discs. I just thought I'd share my thrills.

"Moulin Rouge"
"Snatch"
"Lawrence of Arabia"
"Traffic"

I'm stoked.

What were the first DVD's you ever bought??

Yoda 01-07-02 02:58 AM

"The Matrix" was the first...ever. :)

ryanpaige 01-07-02 03:17 AM

Get Shorty was the first one I ever bought.

Holden Pike 01-07-02 04:02 AM

I believe The Good, the Bad & the Ugly was my first DVD.

My first LDs years before were BladeRunner, The Long Goodbye, North by Northwest, Miller's Crossing and The Empire Strikes Back. I bought all of those the very first night I had my player and just started drooling instantly. Love at first sight, that's for sure.

L .B . Jeffries 01-07-02 05:14 AM

My first DVD, I didn't buy. I bought the DVD Player my dad bought the DVD. The DVD that he got for me was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

spudracer 01-07-02 09:49 AM

Let's see, although it was only about two years ago, I can't remember the ones I got very clearly, but I can tell you this. I got:

The Sixth Sense
U.S. Marshals
- Don't ask
American Pie
Office Space

I got the DVD player with my graduation money, and had some left over so I went and got some DVDs. Can't start off without any. :D

I even remember the first two DVDs I rented. Man on the Moon and The Omega Code(snoozer).

jungerpants 01-07-02 03:49 PM

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

Guy 01-08-02 09:42 PM

Babe :o :p

mecurdius 01-08-02 09:48 PM

i got like 17 of my DVD's free from my dad's office, so the first one i ever bought was the godfather trilogy

The first one I rented was that cheerleader movie with Kirsten Dunst (Bring It On, I believe it was called).

spudracer 01-08-02 10:11 PM

 I ended up buying it for some odd reason. Even I have no idea why I bought it. I think everyone has those kinds of movies though, you know, ones you have no idea why you buy them.

mecurdius 01-08-02 10:21 PM

i know exactly what u mean, spud, i bought whipped for 5 bucks for no reason.

I liked bring it on, i thought the whole cheerleading urban ledends and jargon was really clever.

spudracer 01-09-02 09:36 AM

There were some parts of it I thought were ok. I mean it wasn't that bad of a movie.

Arthur Dent 01-10-02 01:44 AM

Spartacus (Widescreen but not Criterion)
L.A. Confidential: SE
Best of Friends Vols. 1 and 2
High Noon
Ben-Hur
Heat
The Maltese Falcon
Cool Hand Luke
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Othello
(Fishburne/Branagh version)
Lawrence of Arabia: LE
2001: A Space Odyssey
Se7en: NLPS

The only reason I remember all of these is because I posted them in the New DVD's thread as soon as I got them last June.

spudracer 01-10-02 01:52 PM

You got all of these the same day?

henry hill 01-10-02 03:50 PM

the blade (tsui hark)
it was only £8.99 at the HMV clearout.

I had a DVD player for a year before buying my first DVD :)
they're a bit of joke here - £20 (about $32) for one DVD, and region 2 ones have less features than region 1.

Thankfully times are moving on, and the net is driving down the price of DVD's, I've bought roughly 20 in the last month over the internet:

The Thing
Nightmare on Elm Street Box Set
Night of the living dead
Dawn of the Dead
Evil Dead Series
Terminator 2
Total Recall
Audition
Perfect Blue
NInja Scroll
Princess Mononoke
Vertigo
North by Northwest
Brother
Hana-Bi
12 Monkeys
Throne of Blood
Seven Samurai
Yojimbo
Rashomon

That's my entire collection and now I'm skint.

spudracer 01-10-02 05:37 PM

That's a pretty good collection for what you DO have. :)

mecurdius 01-10-02 08:31 PM

the first dvd's i ever got for free were casablanca and batman i love them both

Arthur Dent 01-10-02 08:45 PM

Yes, the same day I received my DVD player: my birthday.

EDIT: Okay, I just re-read the first post and see that this is supposed to be the first DVD's we bought. In that case, I must look at the "New DVD's" thread once more:

Fight Club
Richard III
(Ian McKellen version)
Being John Malkovich

OG- 01-10-02 11:24 PM

Pitch Black and Mortal Kombat. Oh yea... You fear it... :D

SultanBigPants 01-11-02 01:50 AM

It took me a long time to post here cuz I couldn't remember.
But it was fight Club. My sister got ouit first player and I bought Fight Club and she bought Sixth Sense.

spudracer 01-11-02 09:44 AM

It's kinda funny, those of us who have large collections, we can still remember our first's.

henry hill 01-11-02 08:37 PM

what's considered a large collection?

Yoda 01-11-02 08:39 PM

There is no real standard. Most of the DVD nuts here seem to have a bit over 100. I'd be surprised if Laurie L, who used to hang around here, didn't have 500 (at least). I think Holden has a few hundred (400 or something...not sure, though). I myself only have around 20 or so.

spudracer 01-11-02 08:43 PM

Laurie posted her collection in the "What's In Your Collection" thread a few months back. She has over 800 I believe. :)

Holden Pike 01-12-02 02:42 PM

Actually, I recounted recently and I'm up over 500 DVDs now, and still 600+ LDs. Then at least a hundred VHS tapes still kickin' around too.

The more impressive (or perhaps embarassing) thing about my collection vs. Laurie's is that I actually have to pay for mine. If I got 'em for free through my job, I'd have about 1,500 by now.
;)

spudracer 01-12-02 04:25 PM

I think that goes for just about any of us Holden. I mean, if we could get free dvds through work, we would all have some massive collections. :)

henry hill 01-14-02 07:57 AM

I only buy DVD's when they're cheapie, my measly income and expensive lifestyle means most my movies are DivX and VCD   (over 300 in that collection lol! and they're free, so why don't you lot have thousands? rent 'n' rip)

spudracer 01-14-02 09:46 AM

Uh, because it's ILLEGAL.

I usually try to buy movies cheap, but no matter how you plan it, they always bring em down in price again just when you think that's the lowest they'll go on the price.

I do buy some of the not so cheap DVDs from time to time, call it an impulse. :D

henry hill 01-14-02 09:58 AM

Yeah I just did that with Profondo Rosso, where the hell else am I going to get a copy.

hell it doesn't even sell here, I've gotta get it from America. spending a good amount there...

Illegal? uhm? what's that?
(will not say anymore based on grounds of self-incrimination)

spudracer 01-14-02 10:01 AM

:yup: You got it. :)

Marcellus 01-22-02 10:58 PM

lol people dont care about your age as long as they make money i bought pulp fiction when i was 14 i think and my friend buys pornos at suncoast. Best Buy, Circuit City, etc sells you anything they dont care either. But in Gamestop when you want to buy used movies you need a parent. :(

Oh yea Ash whats POTC?

Ash_Lee 08-05-04 10:35 PM

Pirates of the Caribbean. Just happens to be my most watched DVD aswell.
As for age ratings, every shop I go to is so damn strict with them. I wouldn't be surprised if Old World War 2 Veterans get asked to provide ID at some places.

Tazz 08-05-04 10:43 PM

lol i own that Movie too

Turd Ferguson 08-10-04 05:25 AM

The very first dvds that I bought were Die Hard 1&2, and Final Destination.

Giant Elephant Bastard 08-24-04 08:19 PM

My first ever DVD was mine before I even ha da DVD.
That's the anime Argentosoma first volume. After those episodes, I never watched Argentosoma again, because it never caught my attention too much.
This dvd was, infact, the most expensive DVD to this date in my collection, going on about 56 dollars Canadian.
No other DVD I own comes close.

What was the point of posting that twice?
